Oh, it's alright. I've found FB admins of trial related pages to be that way, find of nazi-ish. I just thought they should put a disclaimer on it because it's not certain and it's confusing people, including me! That's why I love this place so much, because you're free to debate and speak your mind as long as it's within bounds and you're respectful. So I still got my sleuthies lol. And I'm quite glad the lawyer chimed in lol. I think what you say makes a lot of sense.
I really like WS too. Good people here...even when we disagree. I sure liked AZlawyer's thoughts. Glad she/he is with us. :)

I just went to the last minute entry of the court and the way it is worded that Vernon Parker must submit voluntarily for an interview with the State does sound like AZLawyer read this pretty well. Maybe the defense or JA did want this man to testify, he didn't want to and JM decided to see what he knew and when he knew it. So this just might bite JA. Oh I hope so.....

Yes, Vernon Parker is a potential witness for the state, as analyzer said. In addition to clarifying what Travis learned, I think he'll also clarify how and what is taught to everyone, leaving little doubt that Jodi was not in the dark about pre marital sex because of Travis' misleading her.

And, as pointed out, he's from Riverside, where Travis apparently grew up. There's a possibility he knew Travis but that's just speculation on our part.

AND don't forget steely Michael Dunn is back on trial today!

Holy crap! I forgot! Thanks!!!

(my bold)

It's a pretty safe bet that just about anything Arias tries will bite her, as all she's got is lies and distortions. So if she's cranked things up for Phase II, I'm hoping to see some truly SPECTACULAR backfires. (Wish the jury members had game show "fail" honkers.) In which case, Nurmi will be shaking his head - "don't say I didn't warn you".

Re Vernon Parker, I found this on one a Woodcrest Ward (Riverside) history page, referring to happenings in 2013:
The Missionary efforts of the Woodcrest Ward were greatly benefited by the Stake Leadership of Brother Vern Parker who serves on the Stake High Council and is charged to coordinate missionary work in the Riverside Stake. Brother Parker assisted Brother Thompson in providing missionary training in the Relief Society and Elders Quorum of the ward and has provided much needed council and direction.
http://woodcrestwardhistory.blogspot.ca/p/ward-mission.html

In her eulogy, Deanna Reid said Travis started to come out of his shell when he was 16, when he joined the church, which would be 1993 - the same year Vernon Parker joined Riverside. So, I would imagine he could speak to all sorts of good things about Travis, including his troubled background, how he overcame it, his mission and other charitable works. I would also think that Travis would have remembered - and possibly stayed in touch with - someone who made a big difference at a tricky time in his life. In which case Vernon Parker might have something to say about how Travis was feeling quite recently too.

If AZLawyer has it right, Miss Missy might have known that, and assumed - incorrectly - that Vernon Parker could help her case. Ooops. Now Juan gets a shot.

How about this possibility? Maybe D. Vernon Parker was on the defense mitigation witness list, but refused to appear for his interview with Juan on the ground that he had already spoken to the defense and told them he had nothing to say in favor of Jodi and wanted off the list ASAP, and the defense agreed to take him off the list. Then Juan said, well hey, maybe I need to talk to you after all because it sounds like you might have something helpful to say on my side, and VP said, I would really prefer not to be involved. [Now somewhere in all this there must be a subpoena or threat of a subpoena, or I don't get where the judge gets the power to "order" him to participate.]

And then the defense said, but wait, your honor, remember when we had the sealed hearing about whether we could argue XYZ at the mitigation trial, and you called VP on the phone to preview what kind of testimony that would involve, and then you said no, we can't argue XYZ? That topic is off the table, right? And the judge said right.

Disclaimer: This is just a guess. I know nothing more than any of you.

This is a really good guess of what may have gone down. I agree it was probably something along these lines or very close to it.

But why would the defense think that a bishop from that far back in Travis's past would help in mitigation? Could they be that desperate? And even if Travis stayed in tough with this man, what are the chances that he knew JA?

Another point: Some time ago, Nurmi complained in court that he was having trouble with a deposition. Could this be related?

Wow, so I've been talking about Vernon Parker on The State vs JA page on fb. I wasn't rude or anything, just kindly letting them know they shouldn't confirm anything that isn't 100%. And they removed all my comments and blocked me from posting and removed my 'like.' What. The. Hell?

Not surprising. I read that page but would never dare comment. It's a reactionary, lowest-common-denominator rumor mill. There's a reason WS doesn't like its members using FB as a source--it isn't a source. It's all conjecture (with a lynch mob thrown in for good measure). There are around 60K "likes" and about a quarter of those say nothing except things like "fry the b*tch!" over and over.

You're right janx. I don't go there much and thought it was a reliable source of information. Let's just say I've learned it's not. The mod has issues. I'll delete my post ref. the Facebook post. And you're so right about all the comments being the same and not remotely intelligent. That gets annoying.

ETA: mmm looks like the edit post button is gone on my other post. Of course it is, lol.

Don't worry about it, MeeBee. :therethere:

I like your guess. My tweak to it- - the inmate wanted to talk with Travis' bishop because she hoped to find some speck of dirt there, and because Travis' relationship with his bishop was the only private space of his that she hadn't yet and couldn't invade without playing the pro se game.

He didn't dish dirt. Perhaps he was never even interviewed by the defense, but JM had his name because she was forced to turn over her list of witnesses.

JM wanted to subpoena him. Nurmi asked for the subpoena to be quashed, which JSS granted because the DT was no longer going to call Parker. JM then requested that Parker submit to a voluntary interview, should the need arise as the trial unfolded (to rebut the inmate's slime attack onTravis. So ordered by JSS. I think this sequence matches the court's September entries, and explains why his name isn't under seal (he isn't in fact a defense witness).

Its voluntary in that Parker is under no legal obligation to agree to an interview. Federal prosecutors use voluntary interviews for IRS fraud cases and such. Not a completely novel maneuver.

Yes! I have been wondering if JA contacted this bishop while she was acting as her own counsel - didn't like what he had to say - JM jumped on it - and she handed it all back to Nurmi to sort out.

Sounds like her, doesn't it?

IIRC, TA traveled to California to perform the baptism there.

I don't believe there's a dispute in that regard.

I've seen the interviews with the missionaries who proselytized her and that was their version.

I'm starting to think this new trial will have a lot of new surprises and things we might have not heard before. From both sides..

Well, with the especially cruel lying torture murderess, you never know what may get blurted or dumped prior to its objection and exclusion.

"The jury is instructed to disregard that last _______________."

I finally bought jvms book Tuesday and already on chapter 17 so looks like I'll be finished just in time for jury selection.
Has been a good refresher on everything, had forgotten how really deluded she is.

Please heed this! I took a 3 day time out last week because of FB and my own stupidity. And the mods are still respectful to me. I was taught a valuable lesson. WS means more to me than rumors. I'm still kicking myself. I hope I'm not violating TOS by posting this. The mods are truly wonderful here.

:floorlaugh: Oh, YEAH! Let's just preclude all of 'em!! :floorlaugh: OMG...!!

ETA: At first I questioned the source because of the nature of it and the information, but I looked at the case history, and the motion is there! :floorlaugh:
