Retrial for Sentencing of Jodi Arias #5

If Jodi wants to play that she was choked out by Travis, mom and dad, she's gonna lose people. That all three people did that too her constantly as part of her abuse claims highlights the story part of this. Doesn't ring true. She's repeating herself.

I think you are right. It's too much to be believable. A red flag for a juror, hopefully all of them. I hope that Nurmi continues to make these kinds of "overstatements".

Luckily in all of my years (and it's a lot lol), I have never been choked. Arias at that age having 3 choking incidents happen to her?

See, this is why I love WS; members are constantly coming up with things that never would occur to me.

Thank you to the poster that reminded me that it would be Judge SS that ultimately decides the verdict. The only part that I don't agree with about the post is that JSS would consider anything but DP or LWOP. JSS is inept and capricious for sure; (you never know how she is going to rule on obvious issues), but I cannot imagine she would rule anything other than the two options I've mentioned.

I hope that at the time my post is posted the amazing Mr. J.M. is up to bat with his opening statement.

Soooo if found guilty of murder but not sentenced JA is mentally ill, how can she be facing a possible death sentence. I always thought this could not be done to the mentally ill????

you can't be mentally ill but still aware of your own actions so i guess thats why? i dunno.

The jury will decide on life versus death. If they choose life then the Judge will decide whether that will be LWOP/Life. If hung then again the Judge decides the life sentence.

Juan needs the jury to see how evil and manipulative CMJA is. He is already far more engaging than Slurmy Nurmi, so now the gloves come off. She can't be seen as a victim or the jury will be lenient on her. So he has to make her look depraved and wanton.

Holy crap! Juan was never one to spare words! Even without seeing it live on TV, I can sense the disdain Juan feels for Jodi Arias. IMHO

She isn't mentally ill by a chemical imbalance. Personality disorders are just that...personality disorders. Meds can't touch them, only therapy. Majority of prisoners have personality disorders going on....sociopathic for instance...or antisocial personality disorder (psychopathy)...etc

Howdy all!! I'm here!! Wow so much has changed in a year. During the last trial my husband and I were going through infertility struggles. Today I'm happy to report I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in July. Strangely my due date was Travis' birthday. She ended up arriving 4 days early.
In any event I hope to stay updated during the new trial. Well as much as one can with a newborn. Glad that we are on the home stretch to seeing the end of Jodi one way or the other.
Also I didn't see one but can we have a thread discussing the makeup of the new jury??

Because he needs the jury to know that Travis didn't abuse her and there was NO sexual abuse. She was a very willing participant. Not naive as Nurmi wants to make her out to be. SHE was the aggressor, the one with the sexual experience. It's tough to listen to, but they have to hear it. She is far from "innocent" in every way. JMO

I like that Nurmi is getting down and dirty like this. I want him to toss everything out there, every trick in the book. Leave no stone unturned (metaphor..metaphor..metaphor)

Aloha everyone, two things jump out at me about Nurmi opening. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Nurmi saying the convicted murderer is remorseful. I thought there was a motion (awhile back) that Mr. Martinez couldn't argue that the convicted murderer wasn't remorseful so why is Nurmi being allowed to state she is?

Second, I remember when Dr. Hayes was on the stand stating her open cases she stated one didn't go to trial as the perp was declared incompetent to stand trial. I recall the convicted murderers head shooting up and quickly taking notes. It might be where we have now the "mentally ill" phrase from Nurmi.
