Maybe he was working his butt off because that's what he did? She of course wouldn't recognize that concept, especially if it meant he wasn't sitting alone in his house obsessing about her.

I think Nurmi's making the same mistake with this email as he did with the sex tape. He hopes for demonizing Travis, but what he's doing is humanizing Travis. Which should remind the jury his client brutally murdered a real whole conflicted young loving introspective man who made friends feel safe, even when they were criticizing him.
