He is a Golden Retriever/Boxer cross .. coat of a boxer, snout of a golden retriever, big soulful brown eyes like a retriever, floppy ears, loooong happy tail ... hard to imagine but he turned out to be a good looking lad. And not so much of a puppy any more  ... but he sure acts like one with that bouncy, silly, happy-chappy boxer attitude. Thanks for asking! :seeya:

He or she sounds perfect, agree boxers have that comic playfulness, it's called unconditional love.

Search and rescue agency coordinator Supriyadi told reporters .... "The location of the tail is relatively far from the point of last contact, about 30 km (20 miles)," he said.

"The black box is located behind the door, to the right of the tail. There is a possibility that the tail and the back of the plane are broken up."

An autonomous underwater vehicle will be used to recover the plane’s tail from the bottom of the Java Sea, according to Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Indroyono Soesilo.

Authorities also reportedly said that 10 passenger seats from four rows have so far been recovered. And, according to a post on Twitter by a Channel News Asia reporter, investigators believe, based on an analysis of the jet's debris, that AirAsia Flight 8501 was rolling to the left when it crashed into the Java Sea.

Fernandes however maintained that AirAsia had the required permission. "What happened was purely an administrative error," he said in an e-mail. "The process has become clear now."

AirAsia has said it is cooperating fully with the ministry's investigations. That investigation would be completed by Friday evening, the transport ministry said on Wednesday.

Indonesia has also reassigned some airport and air traffic control officials who allowed the flight to take off and tightened rules on pre-flight briefing procedures.

The probe has also resulted in the suspension of seven officials over their suspected links to the unscheduled flight approvals.

The seven included two from the Transport Ministry, two from Surabaya's international airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I and three from state navigation operator AirNav Indonesia.

Thanks to all of you for your great updates they are much appreciated. I'm pleased wreckage is still being found and I hope the data recorders are in the tail. Hopefully it will be lifted from the sea soon and we will find out what went wrong. I'm also glad the remains of the victims are still being found. I can't imagine the agony of some families getting their loved ones remains and others are left waiting it's terrible.

Off topic - I'm glad conditions are improving to Australia SouthAussie your dog sounds lovely.

I'm out of hospital now and managed to eat today without being sick so hopefully another op won't be necessary due to my new medication. Thanks again for all your best wishes you are all awesome.

Tail section of QZ8501 found 30m underwater ....

Divers equipped with cameras were swimming in waters of 2m to 3m of visibility when they saw the tail on the seabed, partly buried in mud, Basarnas director of operations Suyadi Bambang Supriyandi told reporters at Pangkalan Bun, the centre of search operations.

Weak signals coming from the tail were detected, but vanished when divers got closer, he said.

While lifting the wreckage out of the mud will be a challenge, Mr Indroyono said subsurface vehicles will be able to lift objects weighing up to 250 tonnes.

The required equipment, located in Batam (Indonesia), can be brought here in about 24 hours, he said.

This one also says 30m/100ft under water.

..... divers took photographs of the tail, wedged into the seabed 30 metres (100 feet) underwater, on which the company's logo could be seen.

And the search has been narrowed.

The search for the rest of the plane would now focus on a two-nautical-mile area surrounding the tail, with a remotely controlled mini-submarine a key part of the effort, Soesilo and other senior Indonesian officials told a press conference.

One official fired, others suspended or transferred.

"To date, we have taken action against eight officials - two from the transport ministry, four from state navigation operator AirNav, and two airport officials," transport ministry official Hadi Mustofa told AFP.

"One of the transport ministry officials was fired and the other official was temporarily suspended. As for the other six officials, some have been temporarily suspended and some have been transferred."

Bbm. Is the equipment on its way? What the heck are they doing? It feels like everything related to this search is pegged to occur in the future. It's so frustrating to see the pace at which they move. Why aren't the necessary resources at the ready right now? /rant. ;)

Our A320 Engineer is in today. I told him about the tail section being found and the distance. His thoughts are that it went in with a nose up attitude (which is the way all aircraft should land)... The tail section hit the water first which broke off on impact. The tail is made from composite reinforced plastic, which would make that section lighter which would add weight the body of the aircraft being several miles away from the section. He also said that we should feel confident that the black box will still be bolted to the tail section. Okay upon saying that.....all airlines will have their MEL minimum equipment list which means certain parts of the aircraft can be unserviceable and still fly. So for example our black box can be unserviceable and allowed to fly for up to 21 days......providing that it is not used for a training flight. I have no idea what MEL's apply to airbus. It would be interesting to find out.

However strong currents stymied efforts on Thursday morning by divers from the Indonesian Marines’ elite diving unit to penetrate into the tail, search and rescue agency chief Bambang Soelistyo told reporters in Jakarta.

“Divers have reached the tail part but… the visibility was below one metre so they only managed to retrieve various debris,” Soelistyo said.

“Now we are waiting for the speed of the current to ease. If it gets calmer later, they will go back to do another dive to determine whether the black boxes remained in the tail or were detached.”

Soelistyo said retrieval experts were also ready with a crane to lift the tail out of the water.

However he said a decision on extracting the tail would not be made until a more through inspection of it was carried out, with the continuing storm weather another factor.

The insurer said initial payments are being made to the passengers’ families in line with usual practice after an aviation disaster.

“These payments are in no way final settlements; they are initial payments to provide some financial relief to all those involved at this extremely difficult time. We will agree further compensation in due course in consultation with all involved parties,” a spokeswoman for Allianz said.
