Revenge or justice? Does anyone feel guilty of their behavior

I don't feel guilty because I don't want revenge or for any prisoner to be tortured in prison. Find the guilty ones guilty and imprison them with health care and daily meals in a way that society and other prisoners will be safe. If a state has the death penalty then that's up to them and the legal system. If our country allows torture and revenge instead of justice and humane treatment then it could any of us that they come after next to torture. People who are innocent will lose freedom if we allow torture and barbaric punishments.

Now if we could only get health care and daily meals for those in this country that haven't committed heinous crimes.

That's a whole nuther thread all together....sorry.

I wholeheartedly agree with all you write, except....
and I find this surprising in myself that on this occasion, beyond any case I can remember, I am not even concerned about the "Humane" bit for KC.

The only thing that concerns me about it is it is her constitutional right to have it, KC by law has to be treated humanely. The same can not be said for the way she treated her baby.

There was no humanity in not calling LE far 31 days, there was no humanity in being wrapped up like yesterdays garbage, there was no humanity in being left in a swampy, trash-filled lot, there was no humanity in wrapping that precious little face in duct tape and yet regardless of how severe the courts deem to punish the perp she will be spared all the inhumanity she bestowed on her baby.

Is there any wonder why KC is so smug? Everywhere she looks people are protecting her rights and she knows it. She alone knows what horrors Caylee went through and yet KC can sit in her cell or sit in the courtroom and see all the people who must bend over backwards to make sure her rights are protected. She makes me sick.

What about rendition?

I hate Casey very much for all that she has done and I do not in the least bit feel guilty. I am not a person that would normally feel hate.....but a very innocent victim has had all their rights taken away and no one in the family seems to want to stand up for her. IMO

Justice will come from the courts, revenge will come later in some other form. The jail system should also have a mentor program of sorts...maybe KC could get mentored by Charles Manson...he could explain why it's best to get others to kill for you...she could give him a little show about how the world is today (lap dance and all) and they could make a new little 'family' of misunderstood inmates!! (Ok I went a little crazy there but I can't help it)

I hate, hate, hate KC and am not ashamed to admit it! She is so going down and I for one am throwing a party when she is sentenced.

Thank you Frenchvixen for bringing to light, the need for self examine.

The following are my thoughts on feelings:
1. As a human being we all have the capacity for feelings
of love, kindness as well as hate.
Respectfully snipped, and bold mine.

I would offer the following modification: As humans, most of us have the capacity for feelings of love...

Your analysis of our motivations for wanting justice (or revenge, as the case may be) is really good.

The change I made, however, ties into my strong feelings about the case.

Casey Anthony does not have that capacity. It is for this reason that I would like to see her removed from society forever.

I don't view this as a desire for revenge. I just want the world to be one Casey Anthony safer. One less soulless killer on the street...

There are several reasons for imposing penalties on criminals.

Usually several are served at the same time.

In this case:
Certainly protection of society from the perp by locking them away.

Also deterrent to others who might potentially harm a child.

It is quite legitimate to include punishment for the crime. That is why we have a scale matching seriousness of crime with sentence.

That may include an aspect of "Rehabilitation" where the perp fundamentally changes his ways. That does not apply with KC

Restitution. Usually in cases where financial penalty is imposed and compensation payed to victim and family.

Related to that is the more vague sense of justice where the victims feel compensation through punishment of the perp.

And that does include VENGEANCE. Which I believe is quite a legitimate aspect of the legal system. Often the only way that direct victims, and the wider group of people effected, can receive justice is for the perp to suffer because they caused irreparable harm. People do get a bit hung up on admitting this aspect, but it is quite legitimate and a major part of the justice system

I want KC sentenced to a minimum of LWOP for all of the above reasons and feel no guilt myself about that.

There must to be CONSEQUENCES. Checks and rewards and consequences are necessary for order.

Rules and boundaries shouldn't be optional and should apply to equally to all.

Casey's young pretty face doesn't make her any different than Duncan or Couey. Nobody thinks we should feel guilty for removing them from society. If anything what Casey did was worse, IMO. Her victim loved and trusted her.

NO I don't feel guilty for wanting justice for that precious baby Caylee!!!!! It is not revenge. The state of Florida and those of us in the world that fell in love with this beautiful baby are the ONLY ones that are trying to get justice for her. Casey had it all! She lived at home with mom and dad and if she would have really had a job then I'm sure she could have found a REAL babysitter to watch Caylee when CA and GA couldn't watch her when she wanted to party. She could have been married to a wonderful guy who loved Caylee but since she is the person she is she was always jealous of a baby! WTH!!!! KC got mad at CA for confronting her about the money and/or her going out all the time and maybe Caylee spilled the beans on her. All she wanted to do was to go out to parties and do things like the new pictures show. I think she had planned to kill little Caylee eventually but after the altercations with CA I think she moved up her timeline. Then she went out and enjoyed life without Caylee. She threw that baby out like trash. I'm so ate up inside as to how this baby actually died. I hope that she didn't suffer. I still get all choked up everytime I see those videos of her on the television. The other reason I want to see justice served for little Caylee is the whole circus surrounding this case. The grandparents and brother that don't seem to care about anything except making money off of thier dead granddaughter for one and their instistance that KC is innocent and asking us to send her a lettr of support. The only letter I would send her would be a letter telling her that someday she will pay even if it's not on earth. The other reason is to smack that smurk off of JB's face when justice is served. Sorry for the long post but I'm a mother and a grandmother of a beautiful little girl that is 7 months younger than Caylee and we are having her 3rd birthday party tomorrow and it's very emotional cause she is also into the Disney Princess stuff too.

I can't image any crime more horrendous than a mother killing her child. . . and I can't imagine any punishment strong enough for this crime that could qualify as revenge. (The goal of revenge usually consists of forcing the perceived wrongdoer to suffer the same or greater pain than that which was originally inflicted. (per wikipedia)) Obviously, there is no greater pain that we could inflict!!!

Should I ever come close to feeling guilty about wanting punishment for Casey ~ All I would have to do is close my eyes and imagine Caylee's face the last time she saw her mother. I cry.

Hmmm.....guess I should have laid the sarcasm on a little thicker.

I always find it infuriating that people are so worried about prisoner's rights and their comfort level when there are millions of non lawbreaking people that have no health care or don't know where their next meal is coming from.

How can jail be a deterrent when for a lot of people, life on the inside is much better than life on the outside.

So I guess my point would be that there should be nationwide prison reform. I'll nominate Sheriff Joe Arpaio to head the commission! (those that know Sheriff Joe will know where I stand on the issue)

Alot of posters have mentioned that Caylee may have spilled the beans on KC. The more I think about it, it seems logical. That might explain the stickers on the mouth. In her sick mind, two year old Caylee had "tattled" on her and deserved a sticker to shut her up permanently. There must be a meaning to the sticker (if there indeed was one found).

For me, the first and most important reason is wanting justice for Caylee. Beyond that, frenchvixen's question made me do some soul searching as to why I despise KC even more than most murderers. Living through the case with her and listening to her bald-faced lies and flat affect on the police interrogation tapes is absolutely bone chilling. Her comment to her friend Christine on the jailhouse tape, "All anyone cares about is Caylee..." did me in. I swear it took my breath away. The fact that she has not shown one drop of remorse except for her own lack of comfort makes me want to puke. Her steadfast belief that we're all a bunch of idiots and that we believe whatever she says completes the picture of a cold-blooded, murdering psychopath. She is an empty shell, an evil, soul-less being made up of flesh and blood but there's nothing there. That scares me.

Freedom trumps comfort!
