Rewards And Donations

It was just reported on Fox that a website called FindHaleigh.com was taking donations and claimed %100 were going to the family, but the family was unaware of it. They said the site is no longer accepting donations. (So where did the money go if they collected any and who is behind it?)

If you read the site it says it was started by an 11 year old home schooler who was "only trying to help".

Fox reported that a woman by the name of Kim Savage of AZ started that website. She also claimed that she was going to give all the donations to the family :whistles:

Ms. Savage may I introduce you to websleuths? You are about to find things out about yourself that you probably didnt' even know :D

Family Says Fake Web Site Created About Girl To Make Money
UPDATED: 7:28 pm EST February 22, 2009

SATSUMA, Fla. --Web site hoax is putting a wrench in the search for Haleigh.

Her family said someone created a fake Web site in an effort to collect money.

Family members said the Web site is not affiliated with them or the police.

The Web site also has Haleigh's name misspelled.

"We are sickened by anybody that would take something that is heart-sickening for our family and try to profit off of it and then stamp the family's name on it," said Haleigh's step-great grandmother, Barbie Squires. http://www.wesh.com/news/18768154/detail.html

What was the website address the George said KFN was putting up?

Cummings said he has not worked since Haleigh vanished. Squires said an account — the Haleigh Cummings Family Relief Fund — has been established at Bank of America.

the RC family does have a "relief fund" established thru BOA.

Does anyone know if the Maternal side has a fund established, if so cna you provide a link and what Financial Institution it is thru. I am making a donation to "both" families. And basically, they all need funds to remain there for each other and the Haliegh. I understand most of them are on leave from their employment. TIA for any help. I want to give equally. No one is above the other imo.

Who would go to a funeral home to "donate" and get buttons n T-shirts?! Something isn't right about this at all. (Then again, maybe it is good that no one would go "buy" them there!)

People in the area may not be aware of KFN and the way they prey on people while using missing children as a "draw", imo. I would like to know where the money is set up to go and who is in charge of the actual account.

Remember that this is a small community where everyone knows everyone. The folks who own the funeral home are probably well known throughout the community and offered to use their place of business as a place to help with donations by selling the buttons and t-shirts. I doubt that the town folks think anything of it.

Isn't there a fund for searching and one for the family for living expenses. Ron isn't working right now but the bills don't stop coming just because he isn't working. He also has the little boy to provide for. Also still has to pay rent even if he can't live in his home for the moment. If he receives enough donations to pay a months worth of bills that will take some of the stress from him. Just one thing he won't have to worry about.

ss I found this on wesh:
Also on Monday, a donor added $25,000 to the Crime Stoppers reward for Haleigh, Crime Stoppers Executive Director Dr. Suzanne DeWees said. The total is now up to $41,000.

People are really stepping up to the plate

Mr. Arwood and Mr. Hunt putting all those picture on their dumpster and trucks are really better than driving around with a bill board..They are great.

Ya know what, I am thrilled to see the reward going up, that amount of money goes a long way to helping someone of limited means "overcome" conflicts of loyalty. KWIM?

As for the funeral home taking donations, it doesn't seem weird to me. Our local funeral home when I grew up also loaned out their limo to people getting married free of charge, found out what elderly in the area needed extra chores done (grass cut, grocery shopping, laundry done) and contacted the schools for responsible youngsters to help them out. Most funeral homes have passed from generation to generation and have been around longer than others businesses in the community, making them one of the foundations of the neighborhood.
My thoughts on donations is conflicted. I understand the families needing extra support right now, I know their community has limited means that also may be running out. But I just don't feel right giving to one and not the other. Wish it could be a fund for both families to use with a nuetral administrator. I personaly, won't contribute unless it is through an established organization, too frightened it will end up going to the bad guy, whoever that will turn out to be.

Online scams try to profit off missing girl case

Fake online solicitations for donations are surfacing as the search for a missing Putnam County girl continues, more than two weeks since she vanished from her home.

~snip~

People who want to donate to the fund should write a check to the Haleigh Cummings Family Relief Fund and submit it at a Bank of America branch. When Haleigh is found, money left in the fund will go to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s organization.

Money from the account currently is being used to help Haleigh’s father, Ronald Cummings, pay bills such as rent and car payments. He has not been going to work since his daughter was reported missing from the family’s Satsuma home on Feb. 10

As for the KFN, I spoke with TN yesterday, and I saw the poster with KFN logo on the bottom. I asked her how involved this organization was and she told me they approached them intially, the day GA with trailer in tow and MEDIA/DM, and assured me other families of missing children had called her from other places in Florida, and warned her of them. She can not speak for the bio-mom's camp if there is any involvement, but she does not think so, and I was not about to go into details and left it at that.
I am so relieved to read this, Chesterp!! I hope TN listened to those warnings. Since they have not been seen around there (media would know and tell!), I take it as a sign they must have heeded them.

As of now, there is no way to donate to the Haleigh Cummings fund online.

People who want to donate to the fund should write a check to the Haleigh Cummings Family Relief Fund and submit it at any Bank of America branch.

If Haleigh is found, any money left over will go to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Since Glover met Haleigh’s mother and father, she has spent a majority of her days helping them out. She’s donated food, drinks, tents, a fire pit, and even homemade chocolate chip cookies. She says she hopes everyone will be touched by Haleigh’s story and help out any way they can.

That is wonderful! It is such a shame that it takes such tragedies to bring people together. I was thinking today about the fund. I know there is a Bank of America near where I live. I wonder if I could just go into the branch and make a deposit that way? I tried to call but the bank is already closed here where I live. Only drive Thur window is open. Has anyone tried to make a deposit that way? I would like to at least donate a few dollars myself.
