An investigation is underway after four people were found dead inside a West Greenwich home.

The town’s police chief, Richard Ramsay, said officers went to the Cheyenne Trail home to perform a well-being check late Friday morning. The department had gotten a call from the coworker of a woman who lives there, saying she didn’t show up to work the past couple of days.

The victims, who have not yet been identified, all appeared to have been shot, according to Ramsay. However, he said police are not looking for suspects at this time.

Ramsay called it one of the worst crime scenes he’s encountered in his 35-year law enforcement career.

39-year-old Danielle Arruda, the owner of the home who was deep into her pregnancy, her two young children (5 and 2), and husband Nicholas Arruda were all found deceased.

The investigation revealed that Nicholas killed his wife and two young children by multiple gunshot wounds with a semi-automatic weapon before turning the gun on himself.

Danielle Arruda was a paralegal for Marinosci Law Group in Warwick.

"Once inside the home," said Ramsay, "officers immediately noticed the bodies of two young children, an adult male and a pregnant female. It was apparent there were no signs of life to any of the bodies and that all four had suffered fatal gunshot wounds."

The exterior door was locked from inside the home. Nicholas Arruda died from a self-inflicted single gunshot wound, Ramsay said.

Nicholas Arruda had a domestic violence record in his past that did not involve Danielle Arruda," Ramsay said, and it appeared he acquired the M4 weapon legally.

SBM The bolded parts surely a typo on the article, how can any random Joe public own an m4 legally, much less someone with a dv record. I

danielles cousin has publicly posted pictures of the kids on fb, sooo very sweet!

Utterly heartbreaking and infuriating in equal measures.

Per the Providence Journal article linked above, the unfortunate thing was that the 2014 DV victim wouldn't cooperate. Tragically, that happens more times than it should. Also, the rifle was a semi-automatic copy of a M4, so not illegal.

If the felony DV charges had been followed through, he wouldn't have been able to buy any firearms and would have served time.

This was actually a quadruple homicide, with Danielle being in late pregnancy. Iowa, where I live, has "nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy" charges possible if a fetus of any age dies in the commission of a crime, even if the mother makes a full recovery.

One wonders if Danielle knew about his past run-in, and if so, what she was told about it.

An 'M4-type semiautomatic weapon' was found near Nicholas's body.

'My brother committed the most cowardly despicable act one could perpetrate,' Jesse Arruda, Nicholas's brother, told the Boston Globe.

'Quite literally the opposite of what a man is supposed to do.'
