CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after skeletal remains were found Monday at a work site in Central Falls.

The remains were found by a construction worker around 8:45 a.m. in the area of Broad and Sheridan streets, according to police.

Detectives and the state medical examiner determined the remains are human and have been there for “quite some time,” according to Central Falls Police Maj. Christopher Reed. R.I. State Police brought in their mobile crime unit to analyze the remains.

Seems like the site (55 Sheridan Street) has a sordid past. From WJAR in Providence: Site of human remains once center of major drug operation in Rhode Island

The plot of land was home to a popular bar moonlighting as the center of one of the largest drug operations in New England history. [...] In 1990, police described it as a thorn in the side of Central Falls. Former NBC 10 News reporter Mark Annick described Sportsman’s Lounge as the headquarters for the cocaine business in Central Falls. Police said the operation was connected to the Medellin Cartel out of Colombia.

The bar owner and operator, Hector Garcia, was recognized as the longest-reigning cocaine kingpin in New England. [...] Garcia was arrested during the raid. In 1992, he pleaded guilty to multiple counts of distributing and conspiring to distribute cocaine.

The Lounge closed after it was raided in 1990. I can't find what the building was used for between then and when it was demolished recently; the first article I posted has this:

Reed said the work site was previously home to a business, adding that the building was knocked down roughly a month ago to make room for new housing.

The adjacent properties include a relatively new Dollar General, a factory complex, and a few triple-decker houses.

Likely not as the location doesn't seem to fit the story, but you never know.

I usually think of Adam when remains are found in/near water (Narragansett Bay and wherever the current could carry him) since there's always that chance he did jump with Elena.

Central Falls - haven't been in that neck of the woods in decades. It didn't have a good rep back then.

I thought of Doreen Marfeo. Johnston isn't far from CF - 15 miles give or take. She went missing in 1990 - same year the bar closed.

But I'm more inclined to think whoever the person is had something to do with the criminal activity in the area. It'll be interesting to find out 1) how old the remains are and 2) are they male or female.

I agree Adam's more likely to be in the water.

I have friends from the area. They agree about the bad rep. They suggested the person might be missing from Attleboro on the Massachusetts side. There's been an effort to locate some of those people recently:
