Brown University reported an active shooter Saturday.

"There's an active shooter near Barus & Holley Engineering. Lock doors, silence phones and stay stay hidden until further notice," the school posted on its website.


"Remember: RUN, if you are in the affected location, evacuate safely if you can; HIDE, if evacuation is not possible, take cover; FIGHT, as a last resort, take action to protect yourself. Stay tuned for further safety information," the notice said.

NBC 10 News left messages with Brown University and Provience police.

At least 20 victims were reportedly injured near Barus and Holley and Macmillan Hall in an active shooter incident, according to a Providence Fire radio broadcast.

Video footage obtained by The Herald showed several police officers on campus as well as several emergency vehicles on the surrounding roads. Additional footage depicted police appearing to assist several individuals lying on the ground near the Sciences Library.

A suspect was allegedly in custody at 4:50 p.m, according to an alert from DPS. A later alert at 5:10 p.m. stated that no suspects were in custody.

The alert and call were sent to students immediately by DPS following the incident, urging students to hide, run or evacuate until further notice.
