RI - Mass Shooting at Brown University - Providence 13 Dec 2025

Very weird that they would make this public before making an arrest
I think it could make someone very nervous for sure and that could be the reason for the release. It also might get person #2 to come forward, if they haven't yet to speak to investigators.

Rain arriving in Providence on Friday may further hamper investigation

From CNN's Chris Dolce and Rebekah Riess

Rainfall will arrive in Providence, Rhode Island, on Friday morning, possibly further hampering investigative efforts surrounding the Brown shooting probe.

Rainfall in the city could start as soon as around sunrise, but may hold off to mid-morning. It’s likely to persist through the afternoon and could be heavy at times, but there could be some breaks.

Because of snowfall in the city earlier this week, “most evidence is now gone,” CNN analyst and former Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Juliette Kayyem said.

“If he (the shooter) dropped something, if there were fingerprints or whatever — most of it would be gone,” Kayyem told CNN’s John Berman.

Strong winds around 20 mph to 30 mph are also expected in Providence tomorrow, with gusts up to 45 mph to 55 mph. A wind advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service.

Strange, neither CNN nor NBC have a announced an identification. In fact Cnn just updated a weather statement, rainfall which may hamper the investigation.

  • #1,224
It's interesting that both announcements came out so close together.

They have a leak too big to keep it from getting out. Might as well get in front of it.

Police are investigating potential ties between the Brown University shooting and killing of an MIT professor

From CNN's John Miller

Police are looking into potential ties between Saturday’s shooting at Brown University and Monday’s fatal shooting of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts, according to a law enforcement official close to the case.

Authorities are investigating the possibility based on information that has emerged in the last 24 hours, the official said, stressing it was not definitive.

The nature of that information was not immediately clear.

If there is a tie, safe to say the shooter has a beef against institutions of higher learner. Hmmmmmmm, not hard to extrapolate the makeup of the guy if this is the case.

In this report, Fox guy says that his sources tell him there were unspent rounds recovered from the shooting. That opens up a lot of doors, and probably means the DNA stuff that’s been talked about will be somewhat fruitful. Spent casings will probably not have viable DNA because of the heat. Unspent is crazy.

Also makes you wonder how this person left unspent rounds and if we have another Kohberger situation. Did a lot of methodical planning but absolutely botched it when it got real.

I'm wondering if Person #2 provided info? Or, perhaps someone recognized Person #2, which lead to LE to discover who Person #1 is.

Or, maybe the MIT murder investigation provided info?

Inquiring minds want to know.

The Reddit poster who initially commented about a car a couple days ago, made a post 14 hours ago saying they sat down with LE this evening (so last night) and they were interested in the info. Could that be the info developed over the last 24 hours that could have not only ID'd the person, but found a connection? If they had a car plate (and a Nissan with Florida plates sure helps narrow down vehicles in RI I would think) they could have used plate readers to maybe be able to tell a specific car traveled in the direction of the shooting of the MIT professor.

Everything about how this case has been handled has been weird if you ask me.

Anyway, sounds like major developments are coming down the pike. Hope it sticks this time. Buckle up, sleuths!

Would they be allowed to be making comments on Reddit after being interviewed by the police?

IF Brown and MIT are related, maybe the perp was planning to follow the professor of the econ class to her home and shoot her like the MIT professor?

But that doesn't explain why he would decide to then go in to the classroom and shoot instead, so nevermind. Or how he even chose these professors to begin with.

I'll just wait for more info. IMO

All police could really do is ask the witness to keep certain information quiet for the good of the investigation. The redditor isn't under a gag order or anything. And it may be they (LE) don't care, since this person's description may jog other locals' memories, generating more useful tips.

This happened to come up in my feed, figured it was fake, but maybe it's not.

The inital comments were BEFORE and it was posted earlier today and approved to be posted since it was from Reddit. I just happened to notice in that same forum about Providence, that poster made a new post saying this:

Go to providence

FYI

The following is all I will say regarding the matter. This evening I spoke to Providence Police, the Rhode Island State Police and I imagine the FBI were listening in another room. They know who I am. I am not the individual posted in the recent round of photos. I wish that individual Godspeed and if they have yet to come forward I strongly encourage them to do so. All the law enforcement personnel that I interacted with today were extremely professional and worked hard to really put me at ease. Respectfully, I have said all I have to say on the matter to the right people. If any follow up is needed the right people know how to reach out to me. Though it is certainly your right to try, any news media attempting to reach out to me will not receive a response. This is a pseudo-PSA and my participation in the comments will be limited to upvoting reasonable takes. Thank you for your time and let’s hope the POI is apprehended soon so the authorities can get to the bottom of this. Hopefully you all are able to enjoy the holidays with your family and loved ones but if you are not may the following days treat you kindly.

Their comments were basically, “I sat down with the police and gave an interview. I’m not the second person. Stop telling me to report it, this is the last I’m saying in the matter.” I don’t think that would be inconsistent with the purported circumstances.

I can’t imagine this suspect murdered a professor and then did a stake out 50 miles away, walking around a wealthy residential neighborhood for a prolonged amount of time, before going to shoot Brown University students. Not saying it’s impossible, just can’t see it myself.

John Miller CNN:

"There is a thread of information that joins the two cases, because of a certain similarity." Need to be very cautious here because we've seen this before and the thread doesn't play out.

Within the last 24 hours this connection has been made, but it's still too early to tell.

It seems Miller knows what this evidence is, but won't reveal it.

Repeats that this is not a certain thing.

Which POI are they referring to? Suspect #1 or the POI who looked a ton like #1 but wasn't wearing a mask? Or had they already identified that dude? It was never clear if they considered #2 an actual suspect. Sometimes they did, sometimes they didnt

Your sequence of events is backwards. The Brown shooting happened on Saturday and the MIT shooting was on Monday.

leaving unspent rounds is amateur hour, isn't it?

case is weird because in some ways it seems well-planned, and in others it seems like a mess. complete face covering with a socially plausible flu/covid mask has been a huge obstacle to identification. a mass shooter who simply walks away from the scene without being caught?? through either skill or luck, he attacked a room right on the edge of campus, with entrance and egress routes that don't have much camera coverage.

then stuff like leaving unspent rounds, and only killing two people despite firing 40 rounds doesn't sound well prepared. (don't get me wrong, we're obviously very fortunate the body count wasn't higher. just assessing his competence.) picking for your target a room with an unknown number of unknown students doesn't show much forethought, imo. getting himself recorded on every security camera in providence. may have linked himself to person 2, which may well be his downfall.

i can't decide about wandering the neighborhood for hours beforehand. despite all the camera exposure, it could be some kind of super thorough surveillance.

edit: the unspent rounds and the poor aim implied by the low number of casualties per shot fired make me wonder if this guy had ever even fired a gun before
