Roman Polanski seeks dismissal of charges

The topless/nude photography coupled with the sexual assault, as well as the fact that he drugged the child: IMO that is earmarkings of a pedophile. Remember, he photographed the child not once, but twice... first time he had her posing topless... the 2nd time it went from him shooting her topless, to also shooting her in the nude.

So, where was her mother? Mom dropped her off for the lingerie shoot.

Update: Last January the victim stated, "I have become a victim of the actions of the district attorney."

Imo, if this was someone who was not famous, people would be happy that he was finally going to face justice.
Justice is supposed to be blind, the fact that he suffered things before raping and drugging a 13 yo child should not be considered.
Manson had bad things happen to him, should he be forgiven for what he did?
This needs to get cleared up so everyone involved can put it behind them.
Along with Roman, Imo the mother needs to be looked at for her part in it.

Comparing Manson to Polanski is like apple and oranges. A murderer RP is not.

The last I heard CA was cash-strapped, and they're going to be spending $$$ on this!

I personally DO NOT CARE WHO THE HE77 HE IS OR WHAT HE DOES FOR A LIVING...

What that man did was and still is against the law. Having anykind of sexual relations with a minor and 13 years old at that is criminal. He is a SO and should be registered as one.

As a survivor of abuse as a child I learned one thing..........a pedo is a pedo is a pedo and I for one will never support one in their celebrity.

So due to financial reasons he shouldn't be held respondsible for his actions, may i please ask you why?

If I recall we read here almost on a daily basis regarding offenders who were let out early, or not even sent to jail due to $$$$.

I'm sure Jaycee Dugard and others don't care how much it costs to hold accountable by the law child predators.

IF RP is prosecuted, I'm sure he will receive time served. He will just get off with a slap on the wrist. It will be a waste of time. The victim already forgave RP years ago. This whole incident was a can of worms from the start with the parent letting her go off with Roman to begin with. What was she thinking and how much cash was she out to make, (I wonder)? Was she out to make a name for herself by pimping her daughter out?

His defense will get the charges dropped or as stated, he will get the slap. Roman is not a threat to society either at his age. All his charm is now gone.

I doubt he will ever make it as far as the US. This is a case that pleas have been made on before.

I do agree with some of Linask comments though about the US when they extradited Ira Einhorn after so many years for murder.

Gozgals

Noooo. :banghead: Love ya, Gozgals, but I have to respectfully disagree with the part about him no longer being a threat. Once a pedophile, always a pedophile.

So was Doolittle Lynn a pedophile who should have done prison time? After all he married Loretta at 13yr. (No he wasn't a pervert it was common practice back then)

Let's try and have a bit of perspective on this- some of the actions RP took were common and acceptable in the 70's- the topless modeling was normal, especially in Europe.

He pled guilty and took a deal (he took responsibility of what he had done rather than taking an alfred plea)) that was signed off by the Judge
RP did do Prison time for this crime and he did so at Chino state Prison (not a country club) He in fact did 42 of the 90 days he was given.

The sentencing was to be a formality since the Judge had signed of on the deal but he bowed to public and political pressure and reneged on that deal, threatening 50 years and deportation) - It was Highly unethical. When the prosecutor in the case says he too would have run it should make you stand up and take notice.
Since deportation was one of the things the Judge was going to order even that part of the sentece has been served has he left the country in 78 and hasn't returned.

I believe he did his time and spending the money to bring him back for nothing while children in CA are going without medical and food is a crime.

I think it is unfair to state that the money used to pursue him would have been spent on food for children-I am not sure that there is proof of that anywhere. I get your point.

If there was judicial misconduct, Mr. Polanski is welcome to come back and prove his case.

Perhaps the state of CA can recoup the costs of chasing him for the last 30 years and use the money for victims of sexual assault-nothing that I have read or seen has led me to believe that Mr. Polanski was justified in his actions. We are talking drugging, raping and sodomizing a child-was he justified in running? I guess we will see if he comes back and states his case.

That part is what gets to me the most. :(

I've seen her say that what RP did was nothing to her compared to the public humiliation she was forced to endure due to the grandstanding and exploitation of the judge and DA. She says that's where her worst scars come from, and I understand that feeling.

RP's punishment aside, I wish the men who made her feel publicly raped could also pay a price.

(I understand that it wasn't until later that we stopped publishing names. But from what I have seen, they utterly blew off her needs in ways that should have been a matter of common decency.)

There is absolutely no proof he repeated this offense, so how can it be stated, "once a pedophile, always a pedophile."

There is no proof, but it doesn't mean it didn't happen before nor does it mean it hasn't happened since and not been reported. This could have been an isolated incident, but I have my doubts. Sorry, but I have zero compassion for people who rape children!

You are right-Natasha Kinski was 15 when she moved in with him and started a romantic relationship with him. Not that I am trying to muddy the waters here...

He needs to pay for his crime, plain and simple.

No, I don't know if he continued to offend, so I will take back my previous statement.

The whole modeling nude and how Europe accepted it, given the time: stance of something being acceptable in another country at a certain time is not an acceptable argument here in the states and when it is committed here in the states. Women are legally stoned to death in the Middle East for the smallest of "crimes"... but it sure in the heck isn't legal over here and the excuse of "well it is acceptable over there" would never hold up in court.

When you live in a country you follow their laws and their structure of legal systems... Roman didn't... and excusing his actions on foreign culture acceptance just does NOT wash.

Okay, you do know that pedophiles are married men all the time, right? In fact, they often seek out single women with young children for the very reason that they want an easy victim.

I would cut him some slack on fleeing a little bit because of his concentration camp experience. I was saying this to my husband last night. I did watch that film when it was on TV. We have a neighbor who is a survivor of Auschwitz, and I know he has certain fears to this day stemming from that horror. So, I can understand why someone who had gone through that as a child could genuinely panic thinking that they would be imprisoned in a small cell. I'd cut him some slack on that in sentencing regarding the fleeing. Not the rape, though.

As far as the victim not testifying, we don't know that she won't if they need her, even though she no longer wants to. Also, her statement is probably enough along with his prior confession.
He has already plead guilty, he is therefore convicted and it only remains for him to be sentenced and serve his time.

Previous victims do not get a free pass to kill, rape, abuse, etc. If they did, there would be mayhem across the world.

His "time" was 90 days, 42 of which he's served. All that would be tacked on is 6 months. I still say it's not worth it.

With all the support he's getting, he will not serve time.

Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese, as well as others, are DEMANDING his immediate release. :\

I hope Polanski has to do his time regardless of his age, his fame, or his childhood history. He not only raped a very young girl, he sodomized her. I can only imagine the pain the girl suffered. He thought he was too good to really pay for his crime, even admitting that he didn't think it was wrong for a long time. If children and young teen boys have to do time for acting out sexually then this grown man should have to do his time for what sounds like was a planned attack with grooming of the girl involved.
