Here's the picture.

I see where you're talking about, but I'm not at all sure that's a noose. I think it just may be a loose end of the rope. A noose made with tape wouldn't work very well. A noose is supposed to be able to slide tight. One fixed with tape would stay at one size.

I enlarged it and it lit is a swing.
:waitasec: a swing in the living rom is odd.

Has it been determined that the apartment in that photo is the NY apartment? Because the curtains are the same as in this photo

http://cnnnancygrace.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/00462.jpg

So maybe the boy in that photo is from the East Coast? Not that curtains can't be moved from apartment to apartment...we always tended to get new window treatments each time we moved, though.

It is the same curtain :waitasec: how did you find that?

Dude. It's a sex toy, or more likely a prop for taking a certain kind of erotic photo. They were mildly trendy for a while in the seventies.

i may be seeing things that aren't there, but i'm willing to lay down some bets that this was taken in the summer of 1977, the same time he killed hover.

first clue is that the village voice cover was laid out the way it is after about 1974, that is with a colorful masthead, an article on the front, and the word "voice" taking up about 1/2 the front page, and then a graphic or smaller headline to the right of the word "voice."

second clue, the naked brick. that was all the rage during that time period, and i really cannot remember it being that way earlier than these years.

for confirmation on the voice, see this article...

The voice is a free paper in NYC you can find it in any Barns and Nobel piled up by the door. (some other places too)

In a trip down memory lane with those as old as I am, do you remember the book called The Joy of Sex? It had a drawing of a woman in a swing.:innocent:

I think the swing is definitely a prop. It looks like he has sectioned off this part of his apartment as his photo studio. The flood lights, sheets, props, rugs, mirrors, everything is for lighting, effect, posing, etc. The wall almost looks like a tear down wall (if you look up you can see that it doesn't meet the ceiling).

Yes, it is. I initially misunderstood what Nomad was referring to. By the time I realized it, the time to edit my post had expired. Here's a small section of the picture with the area I was focusing on circled in red. There's a piece of the rope (I think) just behind the vacuum. Probably the other end of the piece attached to same side of the swing. It may also be the power cord to the vacuum or something else altogether. There's also another section of rope over by the radiator.

Someone already posted the other girl in the apt, and there's a camera in that picture, so i was wondering if this was a photo studio of sorts? the hanging sheet/curtain on the left side of the photo with the girl standing...I'm guessing it's probly a common print of the time, but could it be the same as seen in allot of other pictures found? such as http://cnnnancygrace.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/01181.jpg

if so there are alot linked to this linked to this apt - maybe it was his?

also is this another picture of the boy in the chair? http://images.onset.freedom.com/ocregister/gallery/kz3eaj-kz3eag0163.jpg

I believe I've found the exact date of that Village Voice that was on the floor. I zoomed in and used my drawing skills to narrow down how that particular paper was laid out. In the picture, it's curved in some spots which would change the length/width depending on the curve. Then I spent a few hours looking through Google's archives of the paper (thanks, Google!), and found this... http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=KEtq3P1Vf8oC&dat=19700521&printsec=frontpage&hl=en

From there, I did some editing to blur and line the words up to see if it was a match.

The first word is on a bend in the page making the first word on top and first word on the bottom appear closer together in the Alcala pic.
