Maybe as a US " commoner" I don't have any right to say this, but it seems to me that at 89 years of age, the Queen should spend her reflective time letting go of past hurts, enmity and the like. I think it would be much more peaceful for her, and the world at large who hasn't already realized this, to recognize that Diana was emotionally unhealthy and that mental illness is as serious as the broken bones and wounds you can see. We don't hold physical illness against a person, and mental illness should not be a stigma either. I am very passionate about the topics of both forgiveness and mental health/ illness.

Maybe the Queen read your post :)

I really wasn't expecting Charlotte, despite its popularity with the bookies! I really thought it would be Elizabeth!

It is a beautiful name though, I can see why they chose it for their wee girl. :)

i was personally pulling for this name.....all three......my favorite great aunt was named charlotte.....and she named me!.....i love the addition of elizabeth in a nod to the queen and kate's mother and of course i wanted diana in salute to william's mother and as her first girl grandchild........

i think it's perfect :heartbeat:

life, love and happiness to the princess charlotte :loveyou:

I personally would have loved for the royal baby to have been named in a different order. Diana Elizabeth Charlotte. I am so pleased at least one of the names honors Princess Diana. Their baby, their call, lol!

I once saw Princess Diana in person when she came to the U.S. She was truly the epitome of style and grace, IMO.

I think this is a precious little family and I wish them health and much happiness.

I do too!

I hope they will name her Charlotte Elizabeth Diana but they might feel pressured to give her the first name of Elizabeth.

The only thing stopping me from being sure about Isabella is that Princess Mary used the name for her daughter. Maybe they will use Isobel?

Perhaps they will use something which hasn't been suggested, like Edwina, Matilda or Susannah.

Congratulations, fruity! You were right on the money :toastred:

You should have put in a bet. You got all three names right.

LOL, and I thought Diana was the sanest of the whole group. Shows what I know.

I agree with you, Trident.

Adding:

I never have and never will think much of Prince Charles. Diana truly loved him and he hurt her so badly, IMO. Prince Charles should have gotten Camilla to get a divorce and marry him in the very beginning, IMO, and not ruined Diana's life. No one has to even begin to share my opinion, but it is my opinion.

That said, I hope this little family is so very happy. I think they are, :).

Should have, but it's easy for us to say. To this date a ruling monarch is supposed to give them permission for marriage.

I know, jjenny, and that is precisely why Diana was chosen for Charles. I would have hated for my husband to have been chosen for me.

I'm feeling guilty for bringing any of that up when today belongs to HRH Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana!

Times change. But at that time Camilla was viewed as unsuitable for marraige. And the rest is history.

Diana was very special in lots of ways. She gave so much of herself to her charities and causes. She was also a wonderful mother, who gave William and Harry a 'common touch' and empathy that they probably wouldn't have had otherwise. William's commitment to protect his own wife and children and have a normal and very loving family life is a testament to his mother.

BUT

She was also very manipulative. She was every bit as unfaithful as Charles and she was always phoning the paps to tip them off as to her movements. She would play up to the cameras to ensure that they got the shots that would give the maximum publicity.

The royal family were in the wrong too. They pressured Charles to marry the 'ideal bride' instead of the one he wanted, and did little to ensure Diana had a smooth transition into being a royal. They have made considerable effort to ensure that these mistakes were not repeated with Kate.

Diana was no angel though. She was as flawed as the rest of us and to make her out to be some kind of saint is wildly inaccurate.

It's really hard to make a smooth transition if your husband is in love with another woman. He wouldn't even pretend to be in love before marriage to Diana "whatever being in love means."
The marriage was obviously doomed from the start.

Nice name. Wait till fruity hears she guessed 100 per cent right!

I happened to be in England in August of 2000, staying in Northampton, near Althorp House, Diana's family home. On a whim, my friend and I went to Althorp for a visit. We lucked out that it was the one month of the year when the house was open to the public, and our luck continued as we were able to buy tickets at the gate, when they normally sold out.

It's a beautiful home and the museum area dedicated to Diana was spectacular yet understated. It really gave a sense of who Diana was as a child and a member of the Spencer family, and as a young woman and eventual member of the royal family. Her wedding gown and all her bridal accessories were on display, as were many other iconic dresses and gowns.

Anyway, long story very shortened, at the end of the tour we had the great luck to meet Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, who was signing books in the gift shop! He was just lovely, in that way English gentlemen can be. Very gracious, interested in people, humbly proud of his house and his heritage and his loving tribute to his sister.

It was one of the highlights of my life's travels.

Felicitations to Diana's namesake, HRH Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana!

LOL, and I thought Diana was the sanest of the whole group. Shows what I know.

There's a very good chance that had Diana married a commoner instead of a Royal and lived her life in a flash of cameras, and died the same way, she would have had a stable enough life. But, as has been said, she married a man in love with Camilla, and she found out shortly before the wedding. It must have been torture to have coped with the emotional ups and downs. Just like many other famous people with BPD. If they had not been famous, or if they had been more free to seek mental health care and proper medication early in the illness, they would have had happy but obscure lives.
However, if this had happened, we would not now have William and Harry, would we?

In any case, I adored her, and I am so happy about the baby's name. I've had a very strong premonition that it would be Charlotte Elizabeth Diana since before she was born, and now- she is Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. :)
So very happy for them, and my hopes and dreams are very high for this little girl, as a mother who lost her only little girl to leukemia many years ago.
