Royal Jewels Discussion

The then princess Elizabeth received a haul of royal jewels as wedding gifts. Among them was a cache of seven pearls, presented in a shell, a gift from the Hakim of Bahrain.
At some point shortly after the royal wedding, two of the Bahraini pearls were used to make a new pair of earrings. The earrings feature round diamond studs, from which are suspended round- and baguette-cut diamonds in an arrangement typical of the late 1940s. The pearls are used as drops on the earrings.

The Princess of Wales wore the late Queen Elizabeth Bahraini Pearl Earrings for this years Trooping the Colour

Princess Charlotte wore this horseshoe brooch to this years Trooping the Colour.

It was gifted to the princess by Queen Elizabeth, and originally owned by the Queen Mother, who was first pictured wearing the diamond horseshoe in 1929.

Note; Princess Charlotte also wore this brooch to Queen Elizabeth's funeral.

For day 1 of Royal Ascot; Queen Camilla wears the Cullinan V brooch.

The intricate platinum brooch is set with several diamonds, the largest of which is the heart-shaped Cullinan V. The 18.8-carat stone was cut from the enormous Cullinan Diamond, which was mined in South Africa in 1905 and given King Edward VII. The rough diamond weighed more than 3000 carats, and when it was cut in Amsterdam, nine major diamonds were produced.

I love the smooth chic of the jewelry ensemble that Catherine, Princess of Wales, is wearing. It's a very smart look for her. Regal, in fact.
“Smart and regal” is a tough combo that Catherine pulls off regularly. I know she has advisors and resources to help create looks that are both appropriate and flattering, but her obvious comfort in everything she wears suggests Kate’s calling the shots even when it’d be sooooo easy to just sit back and let someone dress her. What a class act.

…and the little historical callbacks in the details, the thoughtful use of jewels etc…be still my heart. No wonder the Queen loved her.

Oh, yes @dms.

You captured something in words that I've been observing too, but couldn't put my finger on it.

Even though she has advisors and resources to guide her in her choice of clothing and jewelry, she always seems to be wearing something she picked out herself, as if just out of her own jewel box. Pieces that she seems familiar with and comfortable wearing. Her earrings are never gaudy. She only wears relatively simple brooches that often have slightly architectural or simple designs.

Her approach is modern, yet traditional and not dowdy, as expensive pieces of jewelry can tend to be. I know she gets a lot of criticism about her conservative clothing in Royal appearances, but it is a kind of uniform that has to compliment and reflect a lot of military wear and flashy medals. She does it beautifully with simple lines and colors, saving the prints and softer pieces for appearances where she will be interacting with people.

Wow

One does not get to wear an 18Kt Cullinan diamond in public that often these days. Unless, however, one is The Queen.

That is one massive diamond. It takes a hat like that to balance it out.

I'm glad she is wearing all these interesting and historic pieces. We don't get to see them very often.

For day 2 of Royal Ascot; Queen Camilla wears the Cambridge Emerald Brooch.

The Queen Mother's Cartier bracelets make another appearance - this time in the emerald setting.

The piece dates to the time when the Queen Mother was still the newly-married Duchess of York. In the 1920s, the Duke of York (later King George VI) bought his new wife a set of Art Deco bracelets from Cartier. Each of the five bracelets in the set features a different gemstone: one with sapphires, one with emeralds, one with rubies, and two with diamonds.

Ooooh I love how Queen Camilla is enjoying using these really great pieces, and in such good taste.

I have to think her husband, King Charles, is encouraging this. He has such great taste and such appreciation for the beauty and history of all these pieces. She's always going to be a "happy in jeans" kind of woman, but with his encouragement, she has really entered into her own kind of regal style.

My favorite outfit of hers, other than her wedding outfit, was that spectacular dark blue Dior evening ensemble with tiara and diamonds that was worn for the State Visit to France banquet. You could tell from the way she walked in it and twirled in it with her husband that she loved the gown and jewels and he loved her in them

There’s a photo portrait of the then-Duchess from this time that I’ve always loved. She’s wearing a sparkly sleeveless (!!) dress and armfuls of bracelets and looks like the most glam flapper ever born. I’ll try to find it…

Yes, the late Queen Mother was really quite the flapper in that unique fashion age.

For day 3 of Royal Ascot; Queen Camilla wears the Jardine Star Brooch.

“In 1981 the late Queen Elizabeth was left a late-Victorian diamond star brooch by Lady Jardine, which she has worn on many occasions. It has a collet diamond on a knife-wire between each of its eight points.”

Queen Camilla also wears the diamond bracelet from the five Cartier selection of the Queen Mothers.

For day 4 of Royal Ascot; Queen Camilla wears the Raspberry Pin Brooch
The diamond brooch was reportedly a wedding gift to Queen Elizabeth II’s grandmother, the Countess of Strathmore, in 1881. Designed in the shape of a Georgian cross, the jewel appears to be set with a combination of topaz and diamonds.

That brooch is very lovely on a camel or slightly yellowish background. It seems very quaint and charming.

Not sure how I feel about it on that white dress. Perhaps she was tired of wearing platinum and diamonds alone.

It is filthy hot there right now and perhaps a different dress had originally been chosen.

Yes , it's not my favourite outing for this jewel but I do like the placement 🙈
