Good luck Europe - haha.

Cheers for the moral support. NATO in Europe could annihilate Russia's forces in days via air but you know, nukes and all that.

This man is fighting for his countries survival. There's only one real president in that room right now.
This meeting should have taken place behind closed doors but Trump, Putin's puppet, preferred to humiliate and attempt to extort Zelensky in front of the world. We as a country are in very big trouble, and so, i am afraid is the Ukraine. The United States is no longer their friend, their ally.

Looks like all of those minerals may end up in Putin's control and become Russian assets instead of Ukrainian.

Good job Zelenskyy! JMO.
Which is really, really, really bad for the USA and literally the whole rest of the world🤦‍♀️

Exchange a reminder of what is at stake for Ukraine

The spilling over we saw in the Oval Office today reflected what's at stake for Zelensky and his country.

This is not just about minerals or money; it's about making sure three years of bloody fighting hasn't been for nothing. It’s about the future existence of Ukraine in the face of an existential war.

Should he have stayed calmer? Perhaps, but Ukraine’s leader wears this war, it is part of his political being. Clearly this mineral proposal was not as enticing for Kyiv as Washington made out.

Ukrainians feel any ceasefire - without a guarantee from the US that it would step in if war reignited - would not be worth the paper it was written on.

The worrying signs were there when Zelensky folded his arms in a defensive way as he came under an almost coordinated shouting assault from US president and vice-president.

That is a worrying symptom of a White House not really fixating on the realities of the war and the cost Ukraine has paid, especially when Zelensky had to remind Trump of the year it started.

Such a visible deterioration between two allies has been a difficult and shocking sight here. Donald Trump could yet come to Ukraine’s aid, or today could have been the moment he cut ties with it, to Russia’s delight.

I posted some information earlier that Russia is offering the US a deal with rare earth metals. Perhaps another way for the US to get its hands on Ukraine's minerals is for it to sit back and watch Russia take over the Ukraine lands where those minerals are.

I believe it is called playing both sides against the middle.

Oh you mean instead of American assets? You couldn't be more clear.

Exactly! When the af has international diplomacy - let alone discussions with an ally who's country in danger of coming to a literal end - been conducted in front of the press? I mean, what the actual hell?

This is lunacy, completely, utterly detached from reality lunacy.

As to the bolded point - I'm speaking from an international viewpoint and, yeah, you are dead right here! People will say who cares? We'll go our own way and ignore the rest of the world but that's not how the world works. It's never worked that way.

That's exactly what they're doing.

Yeah, quite possibly.

Saving your country vs a business deal.

Integrity vs a moral vacuum.

Horrifying to watch our "leaders" betray our own country like this as they pathetically brown-nose an enemy dictator and sell out We the People. I never thought I'd see it in my lifetime, and I'm only middle-aged.

How about we all step up and protect the Ukraine so that their resources remain their own?

Yes. Altho I think Trump would far prefer to 'negotiate' with Russia as the owner of Ukraine's resources. Then he and Putin could work together on it. Without Ukraine being involved at all

I think it's similar to the proposal to get hold of the Gaza strip and turn it into a vacation resort for the rich.

I'm good with that. But I think the Europeans need to take the lead and US contributions should be reduced. JMO.

I feel that Trump could sell the United States to Putin for the right price ( sarcasm), but there is a kernel of truth to it

The EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said it has become clear that “the free world needs a new leader” after the clash between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.

“Ukraine is Europe! We stand by Ukraine,” Kallas said in a social media statement.

We will step up our support to Ukraine so that they can continue to fight back the [aggressor]. Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.

Watching the PC today made me glad that I voted for President Trump.

I very much like a strong President and not a weak one. I'm happy with the way he took care of Zelenskyy who couldn't even say thank you and instead attacked past American Presidents in the oval office. JMO.
Are you really sure that it was Z who attacked past American presidents? Trump called a past American president stupid! Stupid! And that he wasn’t the brightest! In front of the whole world.

I'm very concerned that he already has. These are not the behaviors of a leader acting in the best interests of his nation and constituents. We know Donald has been bankrupt many, many times in his, er "career"... Where did the bailouts come from?

Z was telling them that in 2014 Russia took Ukraine’s land and killed its people, and that no one did anything. Trump interrupts and says:2015. Z says no, it was in 2014. Well, I wasn’t there in 2014, Trump says casually (he means in office). Z then says that in 2019, he signed a ceasefire agreement with Russia, France and Germany, he was assured that Russia would never attack them again. But then Putin broke his promise, he attacked Ukraine again, took land, killed people. And Z then asks Vance so what kind of diplomacy are you speaking about? And then it all kicks off.

I feel that Trump could sell the United States to Putin for the right price ( sarcasm), but there is a kernel of truth to it
Pretty much has and on his way.

What to know about an unprecedented Oval Office exchange

Zelensky and Trump in the middle of their tense conversation at the White House, Trump's index finger is raised

US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky were locked in a testy exchange in the Oval Office earlier today - which led to Zelensky being told to leave the White House.

It's a lot to take in, so we've rounded up the key points you may have missed.

  • Trump accused Zelensky of "gambling with World War Three". US Vice-President JD Vance also weighed in, and called Zelensky "disrespectful"
  • Zelensky said there should be "no compromises" with Vladimir Putin - but Trump says Kyiv will have to make concessions to reach a peace deal with Russia
  • Shortly after the talk ended, Zelensky left the White House - without signing a much-touted deal that would offer Washington access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals
  • According to our US partner CBS, the Ukrainian delegation left the Oval Office to a "separated room" where they were told to leave
  • A scheduled press conference with Zelensky and Trump was cancelled
  • Trump posted on his Truth Social platform and called for Zelensky to return "when he is ready for peace"
  • Zelensky thanked the US and Trump four times in a post on X
  • European officials and leaders have expressed support for Ukraine, with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk telling Zelensky: "You're not alone"
