As stated, they've asked the US, in the event of a Russian invasion, the US provide air cover and intelligence. We probably have the best intel system of all the EU members. Just a guess, but I assume all EU allies will contribute to air cover, with different countries alternating. It sounds like European allies will handle the heavy work of helping Ukraine defend itself on the ground, though I don't know the details. Just guessing.

EU countries have already been providing similar assistance so far, though, as NATO members, participation is limited to providing arms, equipment, etc. to Ukraine.
So Americans would only fight and die in aerial combat with the Russians.

No thanks. I'd rather have Europe do it. JMO.

I still don't get your point. Are you saying that only the US can provide Zelenskyy with the security he's demanding?

Or something else.
The US has rapidly lost their influence since 21st Jan. Europe is ready to stand up.

The US is strong and the Ukraine is not. Not comparable at all. <modsnip> I do want the war to stop so that the killing and destruction will end.

President Trump is trying to stop World War III. Zelenskyy is pushing the world toward it. JMO.
<modsnip - quoted post was snipped>

I mean you're not compelled to answer, but...

How many US children would you allow Russia to kidnap for the sake of a phony peace?

Security guarantees are also about economic agreements. There is a lot of media talk about this. About our work with the Americans to reach such an agreement.

We all need peace—long-lasting and reliable one. And we want a good economic deal that will be part of a true security guarantee system for Ukraine and the free world. Our teams are working every day and we are making great progress.

Ukraine wants a strong agreement—one that guarantees security and lays a solid foundation for our economic partnership with the United States for decades to come. Fair terms produce strong results.

NATO is the most cost-effective option for preventing another war. It is the simplest and most logical solution.

If Ukraine does not join NATO, we will have to create NATO within Ukraine, which means maintaining an army strong enough to repel aggression, financing it, producing and storing enough of our own weapons, and negotiating with our partners about their participation to deter Russia from starting another war.

That’s why we are talking about a comprehensive system of security guarantees—military, economic, and political. We need to weigh everything—what is cheaper, what is more realistic, and what can be done faster.

I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine in our work toward real security.

Three years of resistance. Three years of gratitude. Three years of absolute heroism of Ukrainians. I am proud of Ukraine! I thank everyone who defends and supports it. Everyone who works for Ukraine. And may the memory of all those who gave their lives for our state and people be eternal.
Does he still think NATO is an option? He says he's going to build his own NATO, but also look at current NATO to see which is cheaper. I'm wondering where I got the money to think he can buy NATO?

I am encouraged he has a plan and an opportunity to to sit down and discuss with the European nations. He needs to know what financial, security, and humanitarian support he is going to receive at least for the next 6 months, in order to continue the war.

I do hope, the European nations are able to convince Zelenskyy the US is not going to participate in any ground troop or military operation in Ukraine. I think once he understands and accepts this as fact, he will be able to move forward with a plan. To allow him to continue to think he can convince Donald Trump to change his mind it's not reality, he needs to accept this and move forward.

Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.

[38 additional "Thank you's" follow this one to the leaders of other countries who tweeted their support]

I visited Ukraine House in Washington where I met with the Ukrainian community.

It is crucial for us that Ukraine's voice continues to be heard and that no one forgets about it—both during the war and after. People in Ukraine must know that they are not alone, and that their interests are represented in every country, in every corner of the world.

I am grateful for the support during this difficult time, for all the efforts made for Ukraine and Ukrainians, and for the assistance—not only diplomatic and financial, but also political and spiritual.

We are very grateful to the United States for all the support. I’m thankful to President Trump, Congress for their bipartisan support, and American people. Ukrainians have always appreciated this support, especially during these three years of full-scale invasion.

America’s help has been vital in helping us survive, and I want to acknowledge that. Despite the tough dialogue, we remain strategic partners. But we need to be honest and direct with each other to truly understand our shared goals.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet the King on Sunday as part of his visit to the UK.

He is due to speak to King Charles on the same day as Keir Starmer’s defence summit of European leaders in London.

It will take place at Sandringham, The Sun newspaper reported.

At Downing Street on Saturday, Zelenskyy said: “I’m very happy that His Majesty the King accepted my meeting tomorrow.”

So he asked to speak with the King. Hope that he will seek counsel from the King. Moo...

It’s crucial for us to have President Trump’s support. He wants to end the war, but no one wants peace more than we do. We are the ones living this war in Ukraine. It’s a fight for our freedom, for our very survival.

As President Reagan once said, “Peace is not just the absence of war.” We’re talking about just and lasting peace—freedom, justice, and human rights for everyone. A ceasefire won’t work with Putin. He has broken ceasefires 25 times over the last ten years. A real peace is the only solution.

We are ready to sign the minerals agreement, and it will be the first step toward security guarantees. But it’s not enough, and we need more than just that. A ceasefire without security guarantees is dangerous for Ukraine. We’ve been fighting for 3 years, and Ukrainian people need to know that America is on our side.

I cannot change Ukraine’s position on Russia. The Russians are killing us. Russia is the enemy, and that’s the reality we face. Ukraine wants peace, but it must be a just and lasting peace. For that, we need to be strong at the negotiation table. Peace can only come when we know we have security guarantees, when our army is strong, and our partners are with us.

We want peace. That’s why I came to the United States, and visited President Trump. The deal on minerals is just a first step toward security guarantees and getting closer to peace. Our situation is tough, but we can’t just stop fighting and not having guarantees that Putin will not return tomorrow.

It will be difficult without the U.S. support. But we can’t lose our will, our freedom, or our people. We’ve seen how Russians came to our homes and killed many people. Nobody wants another wave of occupation. If we cannot be accepted to NATO, we need some clear structure of security guarantees from our allies in the U.S.

Zelensky knew before the press conference that Trump is pro-peace and wants an end to the war yet he was needling him about it. Zelensky was also rolling his eyes and making faces like a bratty teenager throughout the entire 45 minute press conference. Shameful behavior if you expect to do business with us after we have given him $174 billion in aid.

Support for Ukraine was already dwindling but his entitled behavior is doing him in. He lost a lot of support after visiting during the last administration and demanding we give him more money on camera.
Sorry but anyone who thinks that Trump's behaviour is in any way acceptable needs to reassess their skills in rationalising.

Even if Trump was correct in what he was saying - which we all know he wasn't - no one with any degree of decency treats someone in the manner that DT treated VZ. It was utterly disgusting and vile.

As the above video says, Donald Trump is a pathological liar and is making the USA look like a complete laughing stock. If he genuinely believes that tariffs are paid by anyone other than the end user then he has no business being in charge of anything at all, let alone one of the biggest economies and military engines in history.

And, yes, our moron-in-chief, Keir Starmer is as bad as Trump by association for not calling out his utter lies.

I'm genuinely thinking that the rest of the world needs to simply ignore the USA now until they install someone with an ounce of common sense in charge.

Europe is ready for contingencies and to help fund our large army. We also need the U.S. role in defining security guarantees—what kind, what volume, and when. Once these guarantees are in place, we can talk with Russia, Europe, and the U.S. about diplomacy. War alone is too long, and we don’t have enough weapons to push them out entirely.

When someone talks about losses, every single life matters. Russia invaded our homes, killed our people, and tried to erase us. This isn’t just about territories or numbers—it’s about real lives. That’s what we need everyone to understand.

I want the U.S. to stand more firmly on our side. This is not just a war between our two countries; Russia brought this war onto our territory and into our homes. They are wrong because they disrespected our territorial integrity.

All Ukrainians want to hear a strong U.S. position on our side. It’s understandable the U.S. might look for dialogue with Putin. But the U.S. has always spoken about ‘peace through strength.’ And together we can take strong steps against Putin.

Our relationship with the American President is more than just two leaders; it’s a historic and solid bond between our peoples. That’s why I always begin with words of gratitude from our nation to the American nation.

American people helped save our people. Humans and human rights come first. We’re truly thankful. We want only strong relations with America, and I really hope we will have them.

You said it beautifully. That's kind of what I meant to say. But the question remains why does he still believe in he's going to get NATO membership? All members would be immediately thrown into a war against Russia. World war 3, nuclear war.

That guy, is the chief of NATO. I think he has the authority to speak on behalf of NATO. Moo
rutte’s job is to keep the NATO (which includes the US) together. he’s trying to diffuse an explosive situation, and he knows trump only reacts well to flattering :( he’s trying to be diplomatic.

rutte is the former prime minister of my country and i’m not a fan of him, i think this “diplomacy” instead of standing up for what’s important (imo) is typical for him and i don’t like it. he has actually often spoken about how important it is for the NATO to support ukraine and i think if he had another job he might have said the same thing as all the other european leaders we’ve read about! and i’m glad the other european leaders are saying it.

Trump could try having a word with his pal Putin?

RSBM

I think he already had two, sadly I think they were "Yes sir!"

I believe the King invited him to meet. Fwiw.
He said in the X post... He wanted to thank the king for accepting his request. Maybe I misunderstood that.

Hi didn't.

Technically he did but that power (The Royal Prerogative) is exercised by the government. The Monarch doesn't arrange State Visits. The Monarch is basically a tool of the Government in most cases.

The Monarch never interferes with government or politics but has the ability to do so in extreme circumstances.

Personally, I think that the King should in this case refuse to entertain DT on his visit. I'm sure he can arrange to be busy or sick during the time he's here. Donald Trump is completely incapable of behaving in a civilised and respectful manner and, in my personal opinion, should not be allowed in to the UK.

<modsnip - quoted post was removed> The King absolutely did not invite him.
