"Britain and France plot to replace Musk’s Starlink in Ukraine"

"Satellites backed by the British taxpayer could be used to replace Elon Musk’s Starlink in Ukraine as the United States withdraws its military support for the country.
OneWeb, the London-based subsidiary of French satellite company Eutelsat, said it was ready to “swiftly deploy” equipment to Ukraine.
Shares in Eutelsat, which is 10pc owned by the UK taxpayer, have risen by 200pc since Friday, on the prospect that the system may replace Starlink, owned by Mr Musk’s SpaceX."

Thank God for the EU France and Britain pulling together to help get stuff done. They are doing more for peace and ending the war then trump has ever done. I hope President Zelensky never makes a deal for their minerals . Trump has shown he can never be trusted he is not a good ally he would turn on a country in a second like he's done to Canada. I know from my family in Ukraine the country supports Zelensky . Just my very honest opinion .

The funny thing about the other day Europe were trashed for not putting feet in the ground although it was obvious why that was not done. It is wrong though that Putin has so much power IMO
This is 2025, not 1939.

War is conducted differently now. It's about being extremely strategic: using computers, drones, long distance missiles that precisely target key infrastucture, stealth aircraft, populations that are very unwilling to die, and economies that can be undermined using sanctions, not bombs.

Also, there are nukes, and not just one country has nukes, like when the US impatiently dropped them on Japan.

Also, no one is trying to 'conquer' Russia, or even replace Putin, unlike WWII when the Axis powers couldn't be allowed to continue.

The best outcome is Russians somehow figure out how to overthrow him themselves. He's become such a madman, some people predict that's how it will end...but so dangerous for anyone to even mention it.

Isn't it like a miracle>>>that they ARE able to and are. No, I do not want him to make a 'deal' as well as there really would be NO deal that would not be undone with missiles and drone bombs as soon as it is signed.

Who ever said that? That they want American soldiers?. Never, not once, out of the question.

Please don't make stuff up. Provide a link.
Link? UK Girl said it....."Incidentally if the mad despot wants to get it stopped he could turn his troops out right now and stop this!"

Oh I'm sorry.... I may have been confused which " mad despot" we were speaking of, since everyone is mad except Zelensky and those who support war.

Yet in three years he could not take Ukraine. Something he thought he would do in days. No Z did not mess up badly in Washington. Far from it in fact. It did show the world though what they were dealing with with Trump and his words and actions the last week have just enlarged that vision.
Anyone who believes Putin doesn't have a greater war making capability than displayed in the past few years in my opinion fails to see truth.

As a much smaller country than Russia, and without nuclear power, Ukraine will definitely lose without help from the U.S. and Europe.

Trump doesn’t like to be a “loser.” It is one of his most dire weak spots. It’s why he couldn’t publicly admit he’d lost the election in 2020.

He’s certainly not going to align himself with a country that he knows could be a “loser” in a war against the might of Russia.

Trump did one very admirable thing this week, for which I am very appreciative. He had several hostages at the White House who were recently released from Hamas captivity. They were unanimously grateful to him. This was all wonderful, truly, but then he just had to say “so until I got involved you didn’t think you’d be free, right?”

I take nothing away from him helping to gain their release from Hamas hell, I am extremely thankful myself, but it shows how needy Trump is for praise and affirmation.

He has an unquenchable desperation to surround himself with “winners.” Beautiful women, rich men (the world’s richest especially), an obsession with men being tall (the first thing he always say about Barron is how tall he is).

He’s been elected president of the U.S., twice. I would hope that would be enough to satiate this insecurity in his character.

I would wish he would just go about using his power for good instead of evil, all the time. I think he could be a good president if he showed humanity more often.

IMO, JMO etc.

Very insightful 👍

Constructive call with Rubio, Ukrainian foreign minister says

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha says that a call with his US counterpart, Marco Rubio, was "constructive".

In a post on X, Sybiha adds that the pair discussed next week's meeting between Ukrainian and US delegations in Saudi Arabia.

He reiterated that "Ukraine wants the war to end, and US leadership is essential for achieving lasting peace", adding that he and Rubio also discussed "ways to advance our bilateral cooperation".

Glad to see a Secretary of State like Rubio who gets things done.

I hope President Zelensky never makes a deal for their minerals .

The hype about the Ukrainian rare earths began with Ukrainians themselves. Desperate to find a way to engage Trump, they miscalculated presenting the then-incoming president a “victory plan” in November that talked up — way, way up — the potential of the country’s mineral resources. Soon, they lost control of the narrative.

Ukraine has no significant rare-earth deposits other than small scandium mines. The US Geological Survey, an authority on the matter, doesn’t list the country as holding any reserves. Neither does any other database commonly used in the mining business

I see. Allow me to introduce you to Vladimir Putin, the despot who literally murders anyone who opposes him, and who is the self-declared enemy of the US and the West.

Rubio is a genius, he spells it out perfectly, he considers Putin's angle. Hatred of Putin isn't going to win peace, Trump knows that, this is why Zelensky messed up. We'd be in a different place right now otherwise.

It seems unthinkable now doesn't it? That minerals deal. After the hostilities Trump has meted out to Ukraine - withdrawing aid, intelligence and satellite. Doing Putin's job for him.

I am not sure it would be humanly possible to do a deal with someone who has just royally shafted you.

If Zelensky did, it would be the equivalent of a tortured prisoner doing a deal with their prison guard. JMO. In other words. The prisoner "might" do the deal, having no other option to survive, but in doing so, would have been dehumanised and made to feel worthless and controlled. JMO

I don't think there ever was a proper deal - I think the whole thing was a set up. So Trump had an excuse to favour Putin. JMO

Putin is who he is. I'm not naive to that. Neither is Trump. This is why avoiding all out war is so important. Nukes flyin' around can be a tad dangerous 👍

Putin ally calls for Alaska's return to Russia. This article came out the end of December but it's been talked about for a few years. Could all this drama be part of a deal Trump's making with Russia so trump keeps Alaska and gives them Ukraini .

Trump actually called Putin "Vladimir" in one of those video interviews today - like pals. I think he is an absolute fool sucking up to Putin. Does he not realise what people like Putin are? They would kill their own and stab anyone in the back. JMO

I believe the "hype" was between Ukraine and the EU. It was a critical minerals portfolio where the Ukraine invited investment. It is linked in the article you have quoted and linked, which is an opinion piece by a Bloomberg columnist.

The US is not mentioned at all in the portfolio. But the EU is.

And the other document that the columnist links clearly states ..... "The European Union’s actions and policy responses to Russia’s war help harness Ukraine’s resources to strengthen its supply chains, support a green transition, and help Ukraine recover from war."
Again, about the EU and Ukraine.

Portfolio:

imo

Anyone in doubt that Trump is supporting Russia and Putin, read this. It has been going on long before the meeting with Zelensky. The US has been voting with Russia, at UN meetings. Which is why the French senator called Trump a traitor. JMO

"European diplomats tabled a more detailed text, blaming Russia for its full-scale invasion, and supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"We need to reconfirm that the aggression should be condemned and discredited, not rewarded," said Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa.

UNGA members backed the European resolution by 93 votes but, extraordinarily, the US did not abstain but actually voted against it, along with Russia, Israel, North Korea, Sudan, Belarus, Hungary and 11 other states, with 65 abstentions."
