The Foreign Ministry of Belarus is preparing for the meeting between Ukraine and Russia.

On their twitter , they write that they are waiting for the delegates, and have shared a picture on the negotiating table.

I think that Russia was pretty firm about where the talks will happen Ukraine didn’t have much to say about if they wanted to have peace talks at all. I hope that they will be okay and it’s not some kind of trap. I don’t know, I don’t trust Belarus at all!

The phone has become the Ukrainian president’s most effective weapon | Volodymyr Zelenskiy | The Guardian

In a string of phone calls from a besieged Kyiv, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has persuaded the west to agree to a set of sanctions against Russia that were inconceivable a week ago.

[...]

One leader’s office said: “We are in awe of him. He may not eventually be able to save Ukraine, or change Russia, but he is changing Europe.”

Take Saturday’s diplomacy. Zelensky said he opened another day on the diplomatic frontline with a phone call to Emmanuel Macron, followed as the day progressed with calls to the European Commission’s president, Ursula von der Leyen, the Italian prime minister, Mario Draghi, the president of Switzerland, Ignazio Cassis, the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Azerbaijani president, Ilham Aliyev, the Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte, the UN secretary general, António Guterres, the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, the Pope, the Czech prime minister, Petr Fiala, the Polish prime minister, Andrzej Duda, and finally a virtual nightcap with the British prime minister.

The day before, the number of calls was similar, all focused on requests for arms and tougher sanctions. Quite how Zelenskiy managed to make these calls, rally the home front, direct his army and sleep is hard to fathom. One who has heard him in action says: “He is very direct, very passionate and very practical.” But the calls have produced golden rewards for Zelenskiy and helped turn the tide.

He is an actor, after all. The irony is, he was immensely popular in Russia as the head of a “KVN” team. (KVN is an abbreviation for “the club for smart and funny”, a hilarious TV improv show with many teams - to be the team captain, in itself, indicates humor, high IQ, poetic and actor’s qualities, and many other things). Then Zelenskiy made an offshoot, a TV-show on Ukrainian TV, called “Quarter-95”. Very funny. I remember us watching it here, too. He finally ended up with the serial “Servant of the People”, and his hero was a simple Ukrainian teacher who became the president. After that serial, he was really elected the president, and I can’t say much about him in peaceful time, as COVID made everyone invisible, but in the time of the war, he appears excellent. Didn’t abandon his people, was a great example to them.

I suppose the meeting has started.
But what are they going to discuss, did anyone find anything about that?
I mean gtf out of someone else's country and mind your own business.
I don't see the point.
Waiting for updates.

eta: obviously talking about P's regime here, not asylum seekers or foreigners or anyone moving abroad etc. Just realized that may have sounded a bit off

I don’t see a point of peace talks when there are bombs flying and civilians murdered at the same moment. No idea what they will really talk about. Waiting for updates as well

I read an article the other day that said one of the possible triggers of Putin’s paranoia (in relation to the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO) was the installation of an AMD (air missile defense) system in Romania. There’s already an AMD installation in Poland, and Putin is convinced the machines can also be used to launch missiles. NATO says this isn’t true. Nevertheless, Putin feels threatened by these AMDs and fears NATO will install another in Ukraine and use them to launch an attack on Russia.
Ah interesting…. But his thoughts only make partial sense because of Bulgaria Romania Latvia et Al all being in NATO so if that’s his belief about AMDs then he must believe that these other NATO countries have them too so what difference is Ukraine going to make ?
That’s a rhetorical question btw because I’m just responding to the text from the article you allude to. Thank you for taking the time to reply, much appreciated!
