We would certainly stand to lose far more if we were at war with China. But they also stand to lose.

They can't make up the US/Europe/Rest of the World buying power from Russia, and definitely not now. Russia has become a far less useful partner for those countries. Maybe the place on the UN security council, along with a load of 'defensive' nukes is all it has now? It has oil and gas, but the pipelines are already set up the way they are and you can't just rebuild them overnight to send them to new places.

Interestingly, I've heard Russia threaten to use nukes, but not heard them threaten to cut off oil/gas supplies to anyone?
Besides the U S., who buys gas/oil from them?

Russia-Ukraine war latest news: 40-mile-long Russian army convoy nears Kyiv, satellite images show – live updates | World news | The Guardian

British prime minister Boris Johnson is due to fly to Nato’s border with Russia on Tuesday, pledging that Vladimir Putin will “feel the consequences” for invading Ukraine.

Boris Johnson will travel this morning to meet counterparts in Poland and Estonia and visit British troops as he pushes for western unity in punishing the Russian president for starting a conflict that has taken “hundreds” of lives in only five days.

Before his trip to eastern Europe, Johnson urged allies to “speak with one voice” to ensure “Putin must fail”. Johnson said:

Alongside all our international allies the UK will continue to bring maximum pressure to bear on Putin’s regime to ensure he feels the consequences of his actions in Ukraine. We speak with one voice when we say, Putin must fail.

I might have misunderstood, and I don't have a link, but I thought it was that the Ukraine had older Russian fighter planes, and they were switching them for F16s in Poland. The West is providing upgraded equipment to Ukrainian pilots, not getting involved in the conflict. Perhaps wishful thinking.
I don't think so. The Ukrainian pilots would need aircraft they already know how to fly. They are familiar with Migs and Sukhois. And the missiles and munitions they have would work on those aircraft.

Russia-Ukraine war latest news: 40-mile-long Russian army convoy nears Kyiv, satellite images show – live updates | World news | The Guardian

Ukraine’s UN ambassador, Sergiy Kyslytsya, has hailed the end of Russia’s month-long term holding the presidency of the UN security council on Monday night, saying: “I’m looking forward to midnight when this abomination – occupation of the seat of the president of the security council by Russia – will be over.”

China's been making aggressive moves toward Taiwan and in the South China Seas since the Obama Administration. I agree they probably don't like the idea of being ostracized, but they'd still have their group of followers, including Russia and Iran.

If China ever plans on doing it--and they say they have the right to do it--it might be soon.

But, that's all JMOO.

I think it is smarter not to guess whether they will, or won’t, but assume that they will. I never believed Russia would invade Ukraine, it looked so suicidal, and yet it happened. Now Germany has to decide how to survive without Russian gas. If we assume that China will invade Taiwan, we can at least double the production of imported parts so that the world is not left without cellphones or whatever depends on Taiwanese and Chinese import.

Besides the U S., who buys gas/oil from them?

Do you mean which countries by gas/oil from Russia?

I'm trying to find that, in the meantime here's a chart for US imports, and it does have Russia on the list. Looks a fairly small amount, so hopefully that will be reduced to 0 soon? It looks like an amount that can be juggled. The main place US gets its imports is Canada, as I thought, but they don't import from Venezuela after all, presumably for political reasons?

Here's some of the main buyers of crude oil from Russia:
China, Netherlands, Germany
South Korea, Poland, Italy
Belarus, Finland, Japan, Slovakia

I would prefer to see that list in bpd (barrels per day) but it's the best I can find for now.

Russia: main crude oil export destinations 2020 | Statista

Statista won't let me see the natural gas exports from Russia.

I'm really struggling to find a nice easy list format.

This is an interesting site for trade stats, if you can figure it out. I've tried scrolling down to the commodities and then clicking the name of the commodity I'm interested in, then the right side appears to show the importing countries.

If I'm understanding it right, the main importers of Russian natural gas are:
Italy, Belarus, Slovakia.
Norway, Czeckia, Hungary, Poland, Greece
France, Serbia, Bulgaria

I'm not sure how helpful that is, because I'm sure some countries in Eastern Europe get 100% of gas supplies from Russia? It would help more to know how much the countries get by unit and as a percentage of their demand.

But it's a nice portal as it also shows other Russian exports like Wheat and metals.

Russia (RUS) Exports, Imports, and Trade Partners | OEC

I'm sure thee are sites that have simple lists to answer these queries and I'm coming up short on what I'm looking for. Sorry. It's my failure in searching and sorting the results, it can't be that it doesn't exist.
