I see this "financial" weapon as something that could boomerang on the market. The world is interdependent on each economy. Right now, we are on this artificial high, the moral high ground.

Give it two more months...if it lasts that long. We will see a ripple domino effect. Let's hope that this ends quickly. If it doesn't, this won't be a far off war that we watch on TV....this is volatile.

Very interesting. It's about the propaganda machine of Russia and what he wants the Russian people to believe.

Propaganda machine is running at full speed: this is how Putin is selling the war to Russians. (Feb. 28, 2022) Propagandamachine draait op volle toeren: zo verkoopt Poetin de oorlog aan Russen

The invasion has begun,” presenter Yevgeny Popov told Russian television viewers on Monday, February 21. “But it is not Putin who invaded Ukraine. On the contrary: Ukraine has declared war on Russia and the Donbas region.” Popov and his colleagues from state broadcaster Russia-1 have a good grasp of what the Kremlin expects of them: to spread as much pro-Putin propaganda as possible. The structural blackening of Ukraine should prepare the minds of the Russian people for military aggression against the neighboring country. That the 'news' about the Ukrainian attack on Russia is a reversal of reality is of no importance.

'DRUG ADDICTS AND NEO-NAZIS'

Russia is a master of the art of propaganda. The country pulls out all the stops to influence public opinion in its own country, but also in Ukraine, for its own benefit. Connoisseurs of Russian propaganda tactics have seen an increase in the number of negative reports about Ukraine since November. This indicates that Putin was heading for a war of conquest months ago.

Hundreds of pro-Russian social media outlets have suddenly started spreading the word that the Ukrainian government is made up of a bunch of neo-Nazis. The Logical research collective, which tries to expose digital fake news, has found this to be the case. Keir Giles, a Russia expert who investigated Russian disinformation for NATO, told the BBC that "Russia is very eager to brand its opponents in Europe as Nazis". Russia has also once portrayed the Baltic states as Nazi strongholds.

The international Russian TV channel RT, which, among other things, provides English-language broadcasts abroad and which can no longer be viewed in our country as of today, claimed a week ago – without any evidence – that Ukraine was supporting the pro-Russian separatists in the Donbas. region would like to “gasify”. Putin himself picked up on this during the televised speech in which he recognized the rebel regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent republics last Monday. “What is happening in Donbas now is genocide,” he said. Putin called on the Ukrainian army to overthrow the Zelensky government. Russia would find it easier to reach an agreement with a new regime than with “this gang of drug addicts and neo-Nazis”.

MAJORITY BELIEVES PROPAGANDA

Russian propaganda labels Ukraine as a diabolical aggressor against which Russia must defend itself. A majority of Russians, who have few sources of information other than state-controlled television, radio and social media channels, believe this story. Denis Volkov, the director of Russia's largest independent polling agency, told AP this week that more than half of Russians support Putin's military action. “The majority think that the Western world is pressuring Ukraine to attack the Donbas region and that Russia should help the separatists.”

In order to undermine morale in Ukraine, Russia is spreading false reports about the smooth advance of the Russian army in Ukraine via Telegram, a popular social media platform in the former Eastern Bloc. Several cities are said to have already been taken, the Russians would encounter minimal resistance and Ukrainian President Zelensky would have fled abroad on the first day of the invasion. Social media channels not under the control of the Kremlin, such as Facebook and Twitter, are selectively throttled by hackers to make it more difficult to spread anti-Russian messages.

The Russian government has threatened the few critical media at home, such as the newspaper Novaya Gazeta , with a publication ban. Novaya Gazeta had the audacity this week to open its Russian and Ukrainian editions with the headline “Russia Bombs Ukraine.” That was a serious violation of the official order to use only Kremlin sources for reporting and under no circumstances use aggressive words such as 'attack, invasion, war'. After all, Russia is – according to Russia – on a peace mission in Ukraine.

Chancellor Scholz Takes the Plunge: Germany Completes Historic Foreign Policy About-Face

During his speech, he accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of starting a "war of aggression in cold blood,” saying it was "inhumane” and "a violation of international law.” There is, he continued, "nothing and nobody that can justify it.”

Russian defence ministry warns Kyiv residents to leave
Russia’s defence ministry is warning residents in Kyiv to leave their homes as it plans to strike targets in the Ukrainian capital, Russian state news agency Tass is reporting.

In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, the defence ministry says Russian forces are preparing to launch “high-precision strikes” against the “Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the 72nd Center for Information and Psychological Operations (PSO)“ in Kyiv.

We urge Ukrainian citizens involved by Ukrainian nationalists in provocations against Russia, as well as Kiev residents living near relay stations, to leave their homes''.

At least 10 people were killed and 35 wounded in rocket strikes by Russian forces on the centre of Kharkiv today, Ukraine’s interior ministry adviser Anton Herashchenko said.

Similar strikes killed and wounded dozens in Kharkiv, the country’s second largest city of 1.5 million people, the previous day.

In a social media post, Herashchenko said:

The rubble is being cleared and there will be even more victims and wounded.

Ukrainian regional emergency services confirmed the death toll in a statement:

At least 10 people were killed and more than 20 were injured.

They added that 10 people had been discovered alive under rubble as rescue workers cleared debris.''

These translating journos need to work on their language skills.
Yesterday, they claimed Zelensky was "demanding" to be accepted into the EU, today they say he told the EU: "Prove you are with Ukraine."
That is not exactly what he said. None of it.

''Military experts said the 17-mile column, which more than doubled in size overnight on Monday, was a sitting duck for Ukrainian artillery and drone strikes. About 20 miles from where it was last spotted, the Russian advance appeared to have hit a wall.

In Bucha, 15 miles north-west of Kyiv, images posted online showed the bloody aftermath of one of the most brutal ambushes and firefights of the five-day-old war.

In Kyiv itself, Russian special forces troops were halted by guards at one of the city’s most famous religious landmarks. A photograph showed what appeared to be a Russian corpse lying close to St Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery, while the local orthodox archbishop issued a statement claiming the “saboteurs” had been “neutralised”.

I'd say Russian planes. I know Ukraine took possession of some aircraft yesterday but they need to use it wisely and hopeful not get shot down. Russia owns the skies over Ukraine right now. Ukraine needs more drones, IMO.

If the convoy has only moved 5 km closer to Kyiv in a day, that might signal destruction of some blocking the way? Also fuel seems to be a problem.

This kind of calms me down....hoping "refreshments" and EU defensive help will come in time, before Kyiv is taken. Also there seem to be different media outlets out there about how far this column is actually away from Kyiv. We should be aware. Also about that we are talking about the same convoy. Earlier in the invasion/war there was a convoy, that was shut down by the Ukrainians....this seems to be a new convoy....correct me when I'm wrong. I have the same question....why are they not trying to stop the Russians along the way to Kyiv and attack. Maybe Ukraine is waiting until they are shutting down themselves/come to a stand-still purely calculated on fuel and distance.

On the Dutch radio....talking experts...say it all comes down to the fact that the Ukrainians don't have the right weapons right now to attack the convoy in an effective way.

Not confirmed yet....the Russians bombed a TV-tower in Kyiv. Other explosions heard.

Thank you to those who answered my question. I have been trying to follow, and wondered about what military experts have said (‘bomb the front and back to trap them’ etc.)

I think as Zellensky said in his most recent tweet above is that one reason may be he’s choosing not to be the aggressor(?) ‘We resist aggression’.

When Bacha was attacked, the Ukrainian mayor said they defeated the column of Russian tanks.

So is that the Ukrainian tactic? To defend, not to go on the offensive?

Russia blasts Ukraine's no.2 city as tanks amass outside Kyiv | CP24.com
''KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian strikes pounded the central square in Ukraine’s second-largest city and other civilian sites Tuesday in what the country’s president condemned as a blatant campaign of terror by Moscow. “Nobody will forgive. Nobody will forget,” vowed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

At the same time, a 40-mile convoy of hundreds of Russian tanks and other vehicles advanced on the capital, Kyiv, in what the West feared was a bid to topple Ukraine’s government and install a Kremlin-friendly regime. And Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces pressed their attack on other towns and cities across the country, including the strategic ports of Odesa and Mariupol in the south.

Day 6 of the biggest ground war in Europe since World War II found Russia increasingly isolated by tough economic sanctions that have thrown its economy its disarray and left the country practically friendless, apart from China and Belarus.''

So now the Russians are warning civilians? Those kindergartners got no warnings, neither did the hundreds of other civilian Ukrainians who's homes were blown up.
