Moscow police detain children for laying flowers at Ukrainian embassy

Five children aged seven to 11 with peace signs held for hours while two women face trial on unspecified charges

(...)

Police in Moscow detained two women and five children who wanted to lay flowers at the Ukrainian embassy.

Photographs of their detention showed the children holding a poster saying “No to War.”

(...)

Video footage on social media apparently showed one of the women explaining to a crying girl from inside a cell that the “task is for fewer people to gather and say they’re against the war”.

Arkhipova said that police allegedly threatened to strip the women of custody over the five children. They face a trial and a fine on unspecified charges, Arkhipova added. She wrote: “The parents are in fear.”

(...)

This enrage me soooo much!!! Realizing I feel grateful I was born in the Netherlands where you (almost) can say anything and express your feelings. At the moment feelings of helplessness and frustration have taken over, although I also see unity and caring...humanity at his best.

Marine traffic is very good source, have been watching that for years due to NGO's activism, etc etc.

Never thought - I would use it, otherwise!

Russian billionaires are heading for the Maldives archipelago, according to the MarineTraffic website that tracks the ships. The islands are located southwest of India and have no extradition treaty with the US.
On Wednesday, for example, aluminum magnate Oleg Deripaska's yacht docked in the port of the capital Malé, about 600 kilometers off the coast of India. Deripaska's company Rusal has been facing US sanctions since 2018.

Please do keep reporting the marine traffic.... seems a bit voyeuristic ...but I really appreciate "following the money".

I think it was the parents/ caregivers that made the children do that.

You don't involve your children in war, in any way. I was forced to demonstrate against war in the 1980s, was scolded by my teacher for not making my peace dove poster white enough.
We had literally no idea what we were doing.

The former US President neither had Putin in check nor was his buddy. The former simply respects rich people; this is essentially what he sees in people, money. And considering that when he was bankrupt, his mansion in NY was bought by a Russian oligarch, Russians, in his view, were a tangible source of money.

I doubt anyone will because Boris Nemtsov, the outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin, denied such a possibility. Maybe the world has changed, but not these people. Or maybe it is not feasible, logistically. As to Stalin, I was always 50/50 on this. There was the version that Stalin was poisoned by coumarin, but his last months coincided with the “Doctors’ plot”, as the result of which the ever-paranoid Stalin did not trust any doctor to treat him, did not control his blood pressure and, per his daughter Svetlana, was self-medicating with some powders he took out of a box. So, 74 years old, life-long smoker, many stressors in life, not an alcoholic but drinking, short neck, chance of sleep apnea. Plus, unmonitored and uncontrolled blood pressure. A natural stroke is quite possible given the circumstances. Also, if it was so feasible to kill Stalin, why didn’t Beria do it sooner?

Love these history lessons.....

Russia's Ministry of Enlightenment announced it will stream an ‘All-Russian Open Lesson’ on why “the liberation mission in Ukraine is a necessity” on Mar. 3 at 12 p.m. Moscow time.

Did somebody find something about the content of this All-Russian Open Lesson?

I haven’t seen what that content may be. BBC did do an article on what the daily Broadcast included on March 1 this week to give a sense of what is playing on Russian TV.

On my own question.....
Brainwashing children. russia organises the all-Russian lesson about the «liberation mission in Ukraine» on 3 March

BRAINWASHING CHILDREN. RUSSIA ORGANISES THE ALL-RUSSIAN LESSON ABOUT THE «LIBERATION MISSION IN UKRAINE» ON 3 MARCH

Earlier, Russian schools received materials for conducting lessons about the war in Ukraine, which sets out the official kremlin’s point of view on the Russian invasion.

Russia expands its propaganda with holding an all-russian open lesson with ironical name «Defenders of Peace», organised by the Institute of Education of the Russian Academy of Education. There, the schoolchildren will be told why «the liberation mission in Ukraine is a necessity,» reports Russian independent media «Meduza» with reference to the Ministry of Education of the russian federation.

The institute said that the lesson will be broadcast on March 3 at 12:00 Moscow time, hosted by Sofia Khomenko and journalist Denis Polunchukov, one of the moderators of russia’s main propagandist program «Vesti» on the TV-channel «Rossiya-1». The guest of the broadcast will be Peter Ishkov, an «expert» in military history.

«Listeners will be told the background of today’s events: about the danger NATO poses to our country [russia], why Russia stood up for the civilian population of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, and they will also help you figure out how to distinguish truth from lies in a huge stream of information, photographs and videos, which the Internet is full of today,» – the Ministry of Education said in a statement.

Earlier it was reported that schools in several regions of russia received recommendations for conducting lessons about the war in Ukraine, which sets out the official kremlin’s point of view on the russian invasion.

Thus, to the possible question «Is this a war with Ukraine? Was it possible to avoid it?» the teacher was urged to answer «There is not a war with Ukraine, but a special peacekeeping operation, the purpose of which is to contain the nationalists who oppress the Russian-speaking population.»

WTF (sorry) This is breaking my heart all over again.......disgusting, but what can we do?..It's the same we would teach our children in school the holocaust never happened and many more major historical events were
erased or told in a total untruthful way, our colonial past...the slave trait etc.

I hear more and more people raising their voice into "we can't keep looking away...bomb the bastards, get rid of Russia in the Ukraine, this is the limit". Not my tone of voice, not my choice, but I can understand.

We had literally no idea what we were doing.

Actually, I remember going to peace marches against Vietnam with my parents. We were never arrested or in danger. Peaceful protest is a powerful weapon, and arresting children for laying down flowers, just shows Russia political power as a relic that needs to be toppled.

Estonian freighter captured by Russian Navy, sank off Odessa UPDATE

1310 UTC Mar 3 UPDATE: According to latest info confirmed by ship’s manager, Estonian company VISTA Shipping Agency, the ship sank, 2 of the crew went into life raft, 4 remained trapped on board. The ship was hit by something, or hit mine – there’s no clarity here. 2 crew on life raft are missing, VISTA can’t get any information with regards to their fate, condition.

General cargo ship HELT on Mar 2 was reported by Ukrainian defence and maritime authorities, as captured by Russian Navy and used as a shield from either Ukrainian fire, or as disguise to prevent enemy radar detection. In the afternoon Mar 3 the ship was reported by Ukrainian sources as sinking, with heavy list, abandoned by crew, which went into life rafts. No clarity, no understanding, no impartial information on this case, so far. As of 1200 UTC Mar 3, ship’s AIS was still on, she was 16 nm SE of Odessa, anchored or adrift. One more piece of info – allegedly, she’s or was used by Russian Navy Landing Crafts, approaching Odessa for troops landing and general attack on one of the main ports of Ukraine, and one of the main targets of invasion.

Thought I’d park this here, I wonder how many are actually out there fighting (as opposed to sending teenagers out onto the streets - I’m looking at you, Russia)

It was advised that the tanks be avoided, which would be met by regular forces. Instead, irregulars should create obstacles to cause delays for the unarmored and poorly guarded supply vehicles in the rear, which can be attacked with Molotov cocktails.
"Without ammunition, the enemy's tank is a tractor. Without fuel it is a hunk of dead iron. Without food the enemies will surrender to captivity."

Hermitage Amsterdam breekt met staatsmuseum Hermitage in Rusland

The Hermitage in Amsterdam severs ties with the state museum of the same name in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The board and the Supervisory Board have decided that, according to a statement.

The Hermitage Amsterdam displays art from the collection of the Russian Museum, one of the largest in the world. "For a long time, the Hermitage Amsterdam kept aloof from political developments in Putin's Russia," according to the museum. "Russia's recent attack on Ukraine makes this aloofness no longer tenable."

⚡️A number of cities and towns in Ukraine, including Okhtyrka and Kharkiv sustained heavy damages after Russian shelling.

In Kharkiv, Russian strikes hit at least 3 schools, and Kharkiv’s Assumption Cathedral. In Okhtyrka, dozens of residential buildings were destroyed.

That is not unusal for the Russians - they did that to the beautiful city of Riga in 1944 - 1945... and sent mostly soldiers, women & children to Siberia.
