The volunteer fighter: ‘Life will never be the same’ | News | The Guardian
As Russian troops amassed on the Ukrainian border, 22-year-old Volodymyr Ksienich decided to leave his job working for an NGO in Warsaw to return to his Ukrainian homeland in its hour of crisis.

He describes to Michael Safi how he and his father joined a territorial support unit in Kyiv where he has been learning to operate an automatic rifle, spending nights in the woods preparing to repel a Russian attack.

A British pub landlord has arrived in Ukraine with a minibus of aid after a 1,000-mile (1,600km) journey from the UK, the BBC reports.

Tom Littledyke, a former Royal Marine, set off from Dorset in south-west England on Monday before dropping supplies in Poland and then driving over the border to Lviv in western Ukraine.

He is now using his 16-seater minibus to ferry people from the city’s train station back to the Polish border.

For those of you who are not yet fixated on Flightradar24

The spooky US SuperMegaDrone Forte10 is still out there surveilling the eastern border with Belarus and Ukraine, but ever so politely staying well within NATO territory in Poland.

The US means business over there.
Thank you for the updates @Herat

FROM YESTERDAY /heartbreaking, hospital patients underground /sick babies underground, all the refugees

Tonight:

Eta: Putin’s eyes look “detached” me. He looks “far away”, imo.

Eta2: I forgot about that old Stone’s song, “Far Away Eyes”. I’m sure they didn’t have this in mind. :(

Eta3: I wonder if P is on drugs?

Eta4: Maybe the far away detached eyes are just a dark soul.
He looks bloated of face to me
Yesterday one of the many many articles I digested, went deeper into the possibilities of health concerns after some concerning observations were made by a US representative and the term referred to was about Putin seeing a Neuropsychologist. So I went down that rabbit hole and other than the obvious neuropathy and dementia and Alzheimer’s, there was talk of TBI or brain tumour. This is my non medical background assess of possibility because the puffiness of his face could be because of steroids being ingested which my friend with a brain tumour also has high steroid doses. But moreso it talks about the noticeable personality changes that can occur and this fits Putins behaviour to a t!
Then look at his eyes in the video of him further up this thread on the previous page, he is in a meeting sat at a small desk and faced across the ornately decorated room are 30 of his security cabinet and he is drilling one of his very close confidants about wether he supports the action taken in Ukraine and the person replying is replying shambolicly and is finding it hard to reply and Putin baits him to embarrass him and it’s cringeworthy. But look at Putins eyes, IMOO one seems to be more affected than the other, almost squinting shut. So maybe there is some truth and mileage in him being irrational and Machiavellian because of illness? Who knows but if that’s the case then it’s even more worrisome

Moscow police detain children for laying flowers at Ukrainian embassy

Five children aged seven to 11 with peace signs held for hours while two women face trial on unspecified charges

(...)

Police in Moscow detained two women and five children who wanted to lay flowers at the Ukrainian embassy.

Photographs of their detention showed the children holding a poster saying “No to War.”

(...)

Video footage on social media apparently showed one of the women explaining to a crying girl from inside a cell that the “task is for fewer people to gather and say they’re against the war”.

Arkhipova said that police allegedly threatened to strip the women of custody over the five children. They face a trial and a fine on unspecified charges, Arkhipova added. She wrote: “The parents are in fear.”

Interesting to see the flight adjustments

Russian commercial flights from Cuba and Cancun, Mexico this morning are flying a route that takes them north of Sweden over the Barrents Sea then making a sharp 90 degree turn to enter Russian airspace over the Murmansk area to Moscow. Normally it would be a straight shot over Europe.

People around the world ask NATO to close the airspace over Ukraine - Online petition

PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD ASK NATO TO CLOSE THE AIRSPACE OVER UKRAINE

We, people around the world, are asking NATO member states and Ukraine-friendly countries to close the airspace over Ukraine and deploy peacekeeping troops in Ukraine, provide military assistance to Kyiv and support the Ukrainian people.

1,065,685 Supporters as of now.

I don't think there is public support in the U.S. for the U.S. to go to war with Russia, the stakes are too high regarding nuclear war. Even if NATO established a no-fly zone over Ukraine, how would they enforce it? If they did, that would be an act of war against Russia.

Lots of helicopter and plane activity over eastern Poland within about 50km of the Ukraine border.

There was a Polish helicopter running up and down right along the border for a while.

Several USAF craft in the area, including a Hercules flight from Ramsden AFB

⚡️Zelensky: Russia's missile and bomb strikes on Ukrainian cities are a recognition that they have failed to achieve anything significant on our land.
All lines of our defense are preserved, the enemy has no success in any of the strategic directions.

⚡️Zelensky to Russia: Learn the word "reparation."
In the most recent video address, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia will compensate Ukraine for all the damages it suffered during Moscow's brutal war.
"We will restore every house, every street, every city."

⚡️Zelensky: We have survived two world wars, three famines, the Holocaust, Babyn Yar, the Great Purge, the Chornobyl explosion, the occupation of Crimea, and the war in the east of our state.

⚡️Zelensky: We've been through so much. And if someone thinks that after overcoming all this, Ukrainians, all of us, will be scared, broken, or surrendered, he just doesn't know anything about us. He knows nothing about Ukraine.

The southern city of Kherson is de facto controlled by the Russian invaders since March 2. The city mayor said that "for the Ukrainian flag to continue flying over us" he negotiated with the Russian forces several conditions, including:
1. Strict curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
"They wanted to destroy us so many times, but they couldn't," he said.

2. Cars are only allowed to drive in daylight.
3. Only cars carrying necessary supplies such as food and medicine can enter the city.
4. Citizens can walk alone or in groups of two people. They have to stop when demanded. They must not confront the Russian forces.

⚡️Ukraine confirms peace talks with Russia today, on March 3.

A member of the Ukrainian delegation, lawmaker David Arakhamia, said that Ukraine is looking to at least agree on humanitarian corridors.

What do you all think? I think they won't agree to humanitarian corridors. And I think they will step up their attack. JMO

I don't think Putin is going to stop and they will not come to a resolution. At least I would be very surprised. Zelensky is clear...he is not going to surrender and Putin wants Ukraine...no matter what, it seems.

White House requests $10 billion for Ukraine aid as part of broader emergency funding request - CNNPolitics
"This request identifies an immediate need for $10 billion in additional humanitarian, security, and economic assistance for Ukraine and Central European partners due to Russia's unjustified and unprovoked invasion," read the formal request sent Wednesday from acting Office of Management and Budget director Shalanda Young to congressional leadership.

Young suggested the initial $10 billion request for Ukraine would address "immediate needs" and more funding could be needed.

"Given the rapidly evolving situation in Ukraine, I anticipate that additional needs may arise over time. This funding request is based on the administration's best information on resource requirements at this time, and we will remain in touch with the Congress in the coming weeks and months as we assess resource requirements beyond these immediate needs," she said.

As we are democratic countries...shouldn't there be a referendum so that the "people" can have a say in the choice of intervention by Nato or not.
