Absolutely! Russia can drop a nuclear bomb in Europe or North America, and he couldn't care less about who suffers. However, the EU knows that when Chernobyl malfunctioned, the radiation winds blew over Western Europe. The same thing could happen if the USA, or any other country, dropped a nuclear bomb in Russia.

Well, before the US enters a war, Congress will need to vote, per our Constitution. The House (435) and Senate (100), no way 535 politicians can keep this a secret. It requires the House and Senate, and the President could veto.

U.S. Senate: About Declarations of War by Congress

The Constitution grants Congress the sole power to declare war. Congress has declared war on 11 occasions, including first declaration of war with Great Britain in 1812. Congress approved its last formal declaration of war during World War II. Since that time it has agreed to resolutions authorizing the use of military force and continues to shape U.S. military policy through appropriations and oversight.

Family pets, zoo animals taken to safety from Ukraine
At an animal shelter in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, Natalia Horobets bid an emotional farewell to her beloved pet cat Charly this week.

Horobets and her husband had fled their home in the eastern city of Kramatorsk as Ukrainian troops fought Russian invaders.
While those animals headed north to Latvia, others were taken west to to shelter in Belgium and one in Poland.

A Belgian animal shelter has taken in two young lions evacuated from Ukraine, which it says Russian troops had threatened to shoot when they encountered them outside Kyiv.

The lions arrived at the Natuurhulpcentrum shelter, one of few able to provide immediate care to wild animals, late on Tuesday. The shelter will hold them in quarantine for three months and nurse them back to health before starting to look for permanent homes, such as sanctuaries in Africa.

True. Based on GDP, Greece gives more than any other NATO country. Regardless, Greece does not have a stronger voice than any other NATO country.

"Notably, the data shows the United States has fallen behind Greece in proportional spending, contributing 3.52% of GDP compared to Greece's 3.82%."

NATO: Which countries pay their share on defence?

I think the point is probably that while we're all on team NATO that the United States contributes a large sum of money to NATO. I'm not sure the $$ amount can be debated.

The other issue is our nuclear weapons arsenal. We are probably handy to have around in case of nuclear war. Honestly, I'm horrified at the amount of nukes Russia and the United States possess. But someone has to counter balance Russia.

That seems highly unlikely. This is a NATO concern, not a USA concern. NATO will make decisions about the situation in Ukraine.

France and the UK have nuclear weapons. There's no reason for North America to get involved with nuclear weapons.

A YT channel I follow, TinyKittens, recently got 6 cats that were rescued from Afghanistan after the US abruptly pulled out. They got them from Kabul Small Animal Rescue which has a FB page. They are in touch with people who are rescuing pets from Ukraine, so I would not be surprised if TinyKittens gets some of the pets from Ukraine. You can see the cats who were rescued on TK YT channel. It's amazing how great they are doing after all they've been through.

I've recently joined the debate and am not clear...is it about WSers need for accuracy, or about the 44 million Ukrainians need for accuracy?
It's about the truth, and the source always counts. MOO. That's the great part of WS it cuts out much of the misinformation. It requires reading below the headlines. Moo

I'm curious how they manage to suspend McDonald operations in Russia since most of them are franchises just like they are in Canada.

franchises still have to answer to the corporate office

Well, I am keeping an eye on China,as well...

CHINA'S TRADE IS BADLY AFFECTED BY THE WAR IN UKRAINE

Thursday 3 March 2022, 12:42 PM

China is also suffering from the war in Ukraine. The New Silk Road, President Xi Jinping's prestige project, runs partly through Ukraine, which means that China can no longer transport freight. And that can cost the Chinese a lot of money.

'In any case, we know that the border crossings between Russia and Ukraine have been completely destroyed,' says Onno de Jong, transport consultant at research agency Ecorys. 'That line can no longer be used. In the big picture that is one of the less used lines. Most of the transport goes via Belarus, but we know for sure that nothing will be transported via Ukraine in the near future.'

quite interesting...

I can’t come up with an approved MSM,maybe the second link (?) but I will post it anyway:

“The now-famous Russian convoy has reportedly failed due to cheap Chinese tires.

It's never fun when you find out that cost-cutting has played a little too big a role in designing a product you're working with. For example, if you end up at the side of the road with your brand new Tiguan with a flat tire. Anyway, it's a bummer moment. But if you also find that Pon has thrown a nice cheap Ling Long in the back as a spare tire, that can make things even worse.”

Cheap Chinese tires blamed for Russian convoy unable to reach Kyiv

^I do hope this news will reach Putin!!!^

Are Pon and Ling Long brands of Chinese manufactured tires? I couldn't find that information in the link you included in your post. Most of the vehicles driven in the major cities in China are manufactured by Mercedes, Honda, and other car makers and are specifically made for the Chinese market, very upscale, and I've never heard of any problems they have with their tires. Just my experience. So am curious about the source of this statement.

I'll have to see if I can find the interview again, but he looks like the same lad.

If so, there's an interview out there of a POW who stated the authorities came to his home and he was told to sign the paperwork to join the military or "it would be signed for me".

Child soldiers, if this one is under 18, another War Crime to chalk up on the list.

At the present time, Russia is capable of deploying submarines with nuclear warheads to international waters = 12 miles from a country's coastline. The submarines could target key cities and Navy bases and essentially hold the world hostage. Of course, the US and other NATO countries could do the same but the difference is they won't while Putin has already threatened destruction never before seen in history.

The Coast Guard said Russia’s Navy has a long history of sending surveillance ships to monitor U.S. naval bases off the East Coast, including Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia; Naval Station Mayport, Florida; and Georgia’s nuclear submarine base at Kings Bay.

The reason they would trade is because Ukrainian pilots can’t operate our planes but they can operate the old Soviet-style planes. My understanding of the deal was Poland would supply Ukraine with the old planes and in exchange we would supply them with our fighter jets. It was to be a way of helping Ukraine without directly providing such weaponry.

I’m not sure why Poland discussed the deal. But it certainly ended it.
I understand. I don't think Poland did. The US Constitution requires all military appropriations approval by Congress. The current Bill proposed for Ukraine is 13 plus Billion. As of today, it was craved out of a larger package for to gain bipartisan support.

The Russian Navy is set to receive the Belgorod, a special-purpose submarine that will carry nuclear-capable underwater drones, in the summer of 2022, Tass reported.
The nuclear-powered vessel — which is said to be the largest submarine in the world — has been developed to facilitate a variety of military objectives.
The 14,700-ton war machine has been built to accommodate the nuclear-tipped Poseidon torpedoes that are guided by artificial intelligence. The latest report mentioned that the final sea trials are almost completed.

Interesting info from an article about Congress bill for Ukraine aid $

March 9, 2022
The U.S. has already committed $1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine over the last year. Since September, that’s included Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, Javelin anti-tank missiles, grenade launchers, and more than 2,000 tons of ammunition including mortar and artillery rounds, small arms and machine guns, DoD officials say.
Other funds would cover Pentagon costs since the U.S. activated some 14,000 troops in support of NATO countries, spread from Estonia to Romania. America’s F-35 joint strike fighters, AH-64 Apache helicopters, KC-135 Stratotankers and RC-135 Rivet Joint surveillance aircraft have also been deployed as part of the deterrence effort.

Biden’s Ukraine aid package is getting super-sized by Congress

This is what distinguishes the persona of Putin from the persona of Zelenskyy. Putin will destroy anyone---his own people, children, his neighboring country. He doesn't care what the world thinks, in his appetite for complete annihilation.

Zelenskyy will save anyone, his own people, children---he had no interest in troubling anyone in Russia before this. He also doesn't care what the world thinks, in his determination to shelter his people.

Two men who won't back down, for exactly opposite purposes.

IMO Putin was fomenting plans for WWIII long ago. If not, he would not have commissioned this nuclear special-purpose submarine. He is on the offense, the Western world is on the defense.

IMO
