I am not sure, what’s going on..
Watching MT right now:
USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) Current Position ( - DUAL TRACKING - ) | Marine Vessel Traffic

“Harry S. Truman (also known as HST within the Navy[citation needed]) is 1,092 feet (333 m) long, 257 feet (78 m) wide and is as high as a twenty-four-story building, at 244 feet (74 m). The supercarrier can accommodate approximately 90 aircraft and has a flight deck 4.5 acres (1.8 ha) in size, using four elevators that are 3,880 sq ft (360 m2) each to move planes between the flight deck and the hangar bay. With a combat load, HST displaces almost 97,000 tons and can accommodate 6,250 crewmembers.

The warship uses two Mark II stockless anchors that came from USS Forrestal[12] and weigh 30 tons each, with each link of the anchor chain weighing 360 pounds (160 kg). She is currently equipped with three 20 mm Phalanx CIWS mounts and two Sea Sparrow SAM launchers.”

Maybe I am reading too much into it, - with Poland and delivery of migs to Ukraine

I'm sorry, my brain is just fried. Where is it?

VERY IMPORTANT, I think.

Nice place to hide an aircraft carrier along the Dalmation Coast ! ( I LOVE Croatia!)

That's a good place to keep your vessel far away from the risk of trouble in Black Sea or the Sea of Marmara. I had also read of some Russian agitator issues in the Balkans, likely Kosovo.

SAM missiles ! That's like a being a western gunfighter showing a huge sidearm in a showdown.

ETA: The mysterious aircraft TXPKNVLE is NOT at the same place. It's ~ 100 km farther down the coast.

APOLOGIZE. The USS Harry Truman is outside of Split, Croatia while TXPKNVLE is north of Dubrovnik.

It looks like the USAirforce left Ramstein earlier and continues to circle near Warsaw. Do you think it will be escorting the planes to Ramstein? LAGR130

*insert nervous laughter* how embarrassing  (I drink a lot of tea therefore consider myself vulnerable ok?! lol)

Mostly I say this because in the early days, I recall Trudeau being quite vocal and involved while the U.S seemed to be a bit more hesitant. So maybe I was more concerned with Putin retaliating and targeting Canada as a result. Worried our Prime Ministers coffee could contain rat poison o_O

We now know that Putin has a "sh1tl1st" of countries he's not friends with anymore which makes us all vulnerable IMHO. Please know I'm slightly exaggerating and saying these things with some humor!
I thought that was what you may have been referring to. And goodness knows we need a little humour right now lol.
In terms of retaliation, he , Putin et al does have somewhat of a track record for not forgetting those who dare disagree with him or do something that he perceives to be
‘against’ him but I like to think in my ( very very occasional) pink and fluffy land that there is more safety in numbers currently because when you have over 100 countries of varying millions population, retaliation individually , as opposed to (God in heaven pls forbid) collectively as one ( I don’t even like to type this but I’m sure you understand if I say Putin ‘presses’ the N button ) is going to be a difficult and long drawn out task and hopefully before he can even start to achieve individual retaliation, he would have already been ‘taken care of’ in the most polite way that I can voice it……

I'm sorry, my brain is just fried. Where is it?

It's in the Adriatic Sea south and east of Venice, just along the coast of Croatia, near the small town of Split, underway it says, very inconspicuously.

About 1/3 the way between Zagreb and Dubrovnik.

Split is a beautiful little town. I was traveling in Hungary and Croatia in 1995 during the Balkan War, and the jets were flying out over the Adriatic all the time. It was very quiet and the local people were absolutely the kindest and nicest people ever.

SORRY , I made a mistake. The USS Harry Truman and the odd plane signal are about 100 km apart.

Well, someone linked the two on <modsnip> last week so you're not alone in your thinking. No worries

EDITED: Speeds for the tankers.
I think they may be used to refuel the exchanged MIG planes, but they are not really the escort as they are so slow when full. However, just looking LAGR130 is running at 288 kts and NCHO223 is smokin' along at 488 kts, so they are certainly capable of keeping up with the fighters.

LAGR130 is a USAF Stratotanker. It does those ovas as a refueling plane for other small USAF planes in the area. We can't usually see the planes they support, but they are usually fighter-type jets.

NCHO223 is a USAF McDonnell Douglas KC-10A Extender, which is also a tanker plane used to in-flight refueling of smaller planes. It's in Romania.

I notice with the UK RAF tanker planes that they usually have some fighter jet escorts when they return to base in Cyprus. It's a big off though because the fighter jets are flying about twice the speed of the trusty, but slow tanker flights. I don't know if the fighers can fly on "Slow".

I watched one of the big tankers return to the US recently to Pope AFB in Northern Carolina. It took a very long time.

So is Dubrovnik. What's going on in this lovely part of the world. Support in pretty packages.

US intel chiefs to Congress: Putin may escalate conflict in Ukraine with no concern for civilian casualties

From CNN's Jeremy Herb and Katie Bo Lillis

The US intelligence community believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin views the conflict in Ukraine as a "war he cannot afford to lose," suggesting he is likely to escalate the conflict without any concern for the number of civilians killed, the US's top intelligence chiefs told Congress.

Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines said at a congressional hearing Tuesday that US intelligence assesses Putin is unlikely to be deterred by the setbacks the Russian military has faced in Ukraine, suggesting he is doubling down on his campaign to keep Ukraine from joining NATO.

IAEA says it's lost contact with remote data transmission from safeguards monitoring systems at Chernobyl

From CNN's Amy Cassidy in Glasgow, Scotland

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Tuesday that it has lost contact with remote data transmission from safeguards monitoring systems installed at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in northern Ukraine, which was taken over by Russian forces last month.

Sorry, I don't get your response (at least not on the post you are reacting to) Can you elaborate?

I just meant it's easy for someone like me who's far removed from the conflict to say that Ukraine shouldn't take the deal--but real Ukrainians are living in a war zone and perhaps their opinions should be the most important.

Some encourage them to fight on, fight on, but perhaps they value the lives of their family members more than fighting to keep a portion of Ukraine that doesn't even want to be in Ukraine.

Sure, a good number of Ukrainians are fighting back, but millions are fleeing--trying their families.

I say--take the deal and save lives. But, that's just me.

‘Putin is angry’: U.S. intel chiefs warn that Russia may escalate attacks

“We assess Putin feels aggrieved the West does not give him proper deference and perceives this as a war he cannot afford to lose. But what he might be willing to accept as a victory may change over time, given the significant costs he is incurring,” Avril Haines, the director of national intelligence, told members of the House Intelligence Committee.

CIA Director William Burns, a former ambassador to Moscow, warned Tuesday that Putin now finds himself in an untenable position.

"I think Putin is angry and frustrated right now. He's likely to double down and try to grind down the Ukrainian military with no regard for civilian casualties,” Burns said of Russia’s efforts, which have already resulted in an estimated 2 million Ukrainian refugees.

“But the challenge that he faces — and this is the biggest question that's hung over our analysis of his planning for months now. … He has no sustainable political endgame in the face of what is going to continue to be fierce resistance from Ukrainians,” Burns continued. “So I think that's what his calculus has been. And I think that's the reality of what he faces today."

Ukraine says it sank the Russian warship that attacked Snake Island: 'We f------ hit them!' | Fox News
skynews-map-ukraine-refugee_5698329.jpg

''People in Ukraine have been seeking refuge in counties including Poland and Hungary
Poland has taken in the most - more than a million - but one of Europe's poorest nations, Moldova, has also helped about 80,000.''

Rows of camp beds line a sports hall at one centre in the capital, Chisinau, as volunteers look after several hundred refugees from Ukraine's Roma community.
Ukraine war: Refugees escape besieged cities with traumatic stories - 'The house is destroyed, my husband is dead, I know nothing about my child' | World News | Sky News
''A Ukrainian woman has said her husband's body was trapped for days after their house was destroyed - and that she now doesn't know if her daughter is dead or alive.

The woman fled the besieged city of Mariupol, which has been cut off from water, food and power.
"We were shelled, the house is destroyed, my husband is dead," she said, without giving her name.

"They couldn't get his body out for three days. When we were evacuated it took three days''
"The lads who led us out promised to bury him and would later tell me where."
She broke down as she admitted: "My child is on the other side of the city - I know nothing about her - is she even alive?"
