Israel's first open support for sanctions
Israel will not allow Russia to use it as a route to circumvent sanctions against the country. That said Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, visiting his Slovakian counterpart Ivan Korcok in Bratislava. It is the first time that Israel has so openly expressed its support for sanctions against Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with the National Bank of Israel, the Ministries of Finance, Economic Affairs and Energy, the aviation authorities and many other agencies, among others,” Lapid said.
Israel received criticism and warnings, including from the US, for not contributing enough to the sanctions against Russia. For example, there are reports of increasing numbers of private planes operated by Russian oligarchs at Ben Gurion International Airport.
Lapid once again condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and said Israel would do everything in its power to mediate, end the fighting and restore peace, working with the United States and European allies, among others.
National Guard chief: operation is not going as hoped
One of Russia's most influential figures has publicly acknowledged that the "military operation" in Ukraine is not going as well as hoped. It concerns Viktor Zolotov, the leader of the National Guard of Russia and member of the influential Security Council. Damage to Chernobyl power supply again
Russian soldiers have again damaged a high-voltage line that supplies electricity to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Administrator Ukrenergo reports this on
