Witness: Army attacks in eastern Myanmar worst in decades | AP News
BANGKOK (AP) — While Russia’s war in Ukraine dominates global attention, Myanmar’s military is targeting civilians in air and ground attacks on a scale unmatched in the country since World War II, according to a longtime relief worker who spent almost three months in a combat zone in the Southeast Asian nation.

[...]

Ground forces are also firing artillery — indiscriminately, he said — causing thousands to flee their homes.

Video shot by his group’s members includes rare images of repeated air strikes by Myanmar military aircraft in Kayah State – also known as Karenni State — causing a number of civilian deaths.

An analyst for New York-based Human Rights Watch said the air attacks constitute “war crimes.”

[...]

Russia is a top arms supplier to Myanmar’s military, keeping up supplies even as many other nations have maintained an embargo since the army’s takeover to promote peace and a return to democratic rule.

[...]

“These are war crimes,” Manny Maung, the Myanmar researcher for Human Rights Watch, told AP. “These attacks by military on civilians, civilian buildings, killings of civilians, public buildings like religious buildings, yes, they are no less than war crimes that are happening right now in that particular area and this is because they are indiscriminately targeting civilians.”

[...]

“In the middle of all this we have Ukraine, which is a tragedy, and I’m really grateful for the help the world has galvanized behind Ukraine,” Eubank said. “But the Karenni people ask me ‘Don’t we count? ... And of course, the people of Ukraine need help. But so do we. Why? Why isn’t anybody helping us?’”

“Today we seized – the technical term is provisionally immobilised – a yacht belonging to one of the principal oligarchs,” Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez said on La Sexta television on Monday. “We are talking about a yacht that we estimate is worth $140m.”

“There will be more,” he added, without elaborating. Monitoring site Marine Traffic has said that yachts linked to two other oligarchs who are not yet sanctioned were also docked in Barcelona.

The 85-metre (279ft) superyacht Valerie belongs to Sergei Chemezov, a former KGB officer who heads state conglomerate Rostec, two sources told Reuters.

War should be over by May when Russia runs out of troops – Zelenskiy adviser

The war in Ukraine should be over by May because Russia will run out of resources to keep the invasion going, Oleksiy Arestovich, an adviser to the Ukrainian president’s chief of staff, has claimed.

Citing a video published by several Ukrainian media outlets, Reuters reports that Arestovich said the exact timing would depend on how much resources the Kremlin was willing to commit to the campaign.

“I think that no later than in May, early May, we should have a peace agreement, maybe much earlier, we will see, I am talking about the latest possible dates,” Arestovich said.

“We are at a fork in the road now: there will either be a peace deal struck very quickly, within a week or two, with troop withdrawal and everything, or there will be an attempt to scrape together some, say, Syrians for a round two and, when we grind them too, an agreement by mid-April or late April.”

Plus in 1962 it was only 17 years past the devastation, death and sickness caused by the atomic bombs dropped in 1945. It's 77 years gone now from that horror and 60 years from the threat. I'm old enough to remember the 1962 threat first hand but not the horror of 1945.

What amazes me is Putin and all his minions doing his bidding have lived through the Chernobyl disaster in their backyard but still threaten to unleash that same destruction by choice. I will never understand that, ever. AJMO

I think the world has gotten complacent

Well, this - the Chernobyl disaster - at first was covered up by the Communist Party (remember the Kiev parade on May 1st that was not canceled, or the firefighters that were sent in the first hours after accident, without being warned about the danger of the radiation).

So very few saw what radiation sickness was. The “second line” of the liquidators was treated in the closed hospital in Moscow, the “first one” died almost immediately. Did many see the sores, the fallen hair, the pain?

Some people did. But very few.

'Brilliant and brave' British journalist with 'serious injuries' 'in ICU' in Ukraine

Benjamin Hall, a foreign affairs correspondent at Fox News, was not in a military facility when he suffered "serious injuries", a day after American journalist Brent Renaud died after reportedly being shot by Russian forces

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/brilliant-brave-british-journalist-serious-26467096

Please include Mr Hall in your prayers alongside all the women, men and children of Ukraine. He has a wife and three young daughters who need him to come home. I really hope Mr Hall survives and he keeps fighting to recover from his injuries as much as he can.

It is absolutely horrific and heartbreaking seeing all the tremendous suffering and devastation being caused to the women, men and children of Ukraine. All of them are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Zelensky praises Russian TV editor for 'telling the truth' after she was arrested for protest on state television against Putin's war and said 'they can't put us all in prison'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has praised the Russian TV editor who ran onto a live state TV news with a sign protesting Moscow's invasion of Ukraine that read: 'Stop the war... They can't put us all in prison'.

'I am grateful to those Russians who do not stop trying to convey the truth. To those who fight disinformation and tell the truth, real facts to their friends and loved ones,' Zelensky said in a Telegram video uploaded Tuesday, CNN reported.

The president also spoke directly to Marina Ovsyannikova, an editor on the Russian TV channel Pervyi Kanal (Channel One) who held up a sign on the broadcaster's main evening news show, Vremya, that said: 'Stop the war! Don't believe propaganda! They're lying to you here! Russians against war.'

Ukraine war: Brave female TV editor wields 'Stop the War' sign on Russian state TV before arrest | Daily Mail Online

What Marina Ovsyannikova, an editor on the Russian TV channel did when she held up her sign saying No War, which also told the viewers not to believe the propaganda they are being told is incredibly brave. It is being reported that she was arrested soon after and her solicitor/attorney does not know where she is being held.

It is unbelievable to think in the year 2022 Marina could potentially face up to 15 years in prison for holding up a sign saying No War. Unfortunately I think it will be impossible for her to work in the news industry in Russia again. By protesting so publicly she stood up for what is right and what she believes in but in doing so she will face severe consequences personally.

A big thank you to Marina, I have tremendous respect for her for doing this protest. It must have been very difficult to decide to do it knowing she could end up in a Russian jail for a long time, that it would likely end her career as a news presenter in Russia, and that she could potentially suffer other horrendous consequences in the years ahead. I wish Marina have done the protest and escaped immediately after to safety in another country.

EU leaders travel to Ukraine to show support

Leaders of NATO countries Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia intend on Tuesday to travel to Kyiv in a joint EU mission to show their support for Ukraine, reports AP.

"The purpose of the visit is to show the EU's support for Ukraine and its freedom and independence," Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala wrote on Twitter.

He will be accompanied by Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

During the visit, it is stated that a concrete emergency package will be presented by the ministers, who will also speak in their capacity as EU representatives.

The visit is made as a result of Russian troops' advance and approaches to the capital Kyiv, which on Tuesday morning has been subjected to several bombings.

Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelensky's staff confirms that the visit will take place during the day, reports Reuters.

Delegation is said to have crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border early in the morning.”

I fear there is a movement of Russian-supplied states to get in and do their own nastiness and advance their aims as far as possible now while the world's attention is diverted ... because their supplier and supplies are doomed to disappear. As the saying goes, "there's no time like the present".

This is, and will be, a bloody week.

Stay strong Ukraine.

EU adopts fourth set of sanctions against Russia
The EU has adopted the fourth round of sanctions against Russia, banning the export of luxury goods and import of steel products, as well as targeting new oligarchs.

The EU imposed a new set of sanctions against Russia “in response to its brutal aggression against Ukraine and its people,” the European Commission announced in a statement welcoming the decision of EU member states.

“These sanctions will further contribute to ramping up economic pressure on the Kremlin and cripple its ability to finance its invasion of Ukraine,” the statement said.

What annoys me is this.
BNR | Oligarchen hebben vliegtuigen op Aruba geregistreerd
Russische oligarchen registreerden zeker tien vliegtuigen op Aruba | NU - Het laatste nieuws het eerst op NU.nl

At least ten aircraft registered in Aruba <an autonomous country and as such part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and a member of the EU> are in the hands of Russian oligarchs against whom international sanctions have been declared. These include Roman Abramovich and Viktor Vekselberg. That is what Minister of Transport Ursell Arends said to Aruban media.

Arends confirms that the aircraft are in the aviation register of his country, but for the time being no action has been taken against this. According to him, Aruba is on the same line as the Netherlands and the European Union when it comes to international sanctions. The sanctions were imposed to punish Russia and wealthy businessmen around President Putin for the war in Ukraine.

'Measures if necessary'
According to Minister Arends, Aruba will take measures against the Russian owners 'if necessary'. (What do you mean with "if necessary"!! No Mr. Arends this is not how it works. You have to commit yourself to the sanctions and take action.) In the aviation register, which is a lucrative source of income for Aruba, more aircraft are registered in the name of persons from the former Soviet Union.

Aruban media report that the Russian billionaires have registered large aircraft. Abramovich is said to have registered a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and a Boeing 767 Extended Range and Vekselberg an Airbus A319-100 ACJ.
