''Russia warned the West against sending further arms to Ukraine, saying such arms convoys could now be considered “legitimate targets” for the Russian armed forces.

Speaking to Russia’s Channel One broadcaster earlier, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov issued a warning to the West that could lead to a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO.

“We warned the United States that pumping Ukraine with weapons from a number of countries orchestrated by them is not just a dangerous move, but an action that turns the corresponding convoys into legitimate targets,” the deputy minister said, according to comments reported by Russia’s state news agency TASS.

Ryabkov said there could be consequences to what he called the West’s “thoughtless transfer” to Kyiv of weapons such as portable anti-aircraft missile systems and anti-tank missile systems, both of which have been supplied to Ukraine by several NATO members including the U.S. and U.K.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reiterates the warning that a Swedish accession to NATO will lead to "retaliatory measures". It writes the news agency TT with reference to the Russian news agency Interfax.

Prior to the invasion of Ukraine, Russia demanded that NATO not approve new membership applications, including from Sweden.

"It is clear that Finland's and Sweden's accession to NATO, which is primarily a military organization, would have serious military and political consequences that require a revision of the entire scale of relations with these countries and retaliatory measures," said Russian diplomat Sergei Belyaev. to Interfax.”

I had to stop by here and get re-centered, so many theories and plots floating around wanted to search for a broader perspective. We just got to hold on, give it some time for the sanctions to really bite.

No way did Russia believe they would incur this amount of casualties this soon, but 12,000? dead hell what about being captured? If you have 12,000 dead would there likely be even more surrendering?

Russia strikes near Ukraine's capital; mosque reported hit
''LVIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian forces pounding the port city of Mariupol shelled a mosque sheltering more than 80 people, including children, the Ukrainian government said Saturday as fighting also raged on the outskirts of the capital, Kyiv.

There was no immediate word of casualties from the shelling of the mosque. Mariupol has seen some of the greatest misery from Russia's war in Ukraine as unceasing barrages have thwarted repeated attempts to bring in food and water and to evacuate trapped civilians.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Turkey said that a group of 86 Turkish nationals, including 34 children, were among the people who had sought safety in the mosque of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and his wife Roksolana.

Elsewhere, air raid sirens rang out across the capital region and artillery barrages sent residents scurrying for shelter. Fighting erupted in multiple areas around Kyiv.

Russia's slow, grinding apparent attempt to encircle the city and the bombardment of other population centers with artillery and air strikes mirror tactics that Russian forces have previously used in other campaigns, notably in Syria and Chechnya, to crush armed resistance.''

Gipsy girl @gitana1 I really wish I had the answer and the power.....didn't forget your question....putting my head down...because I feel hopeless and don't know what "we" the West could do, without getting into WOIII....to prevent all this....But putting my head and my heart up for the Ukrainians....please fight them....and survive....my neighboring brothers and sisters...good thoughts for all of you! Also for the Russian people who spoke out and want to see peace. I'm so angry....so frustrated...

I agree that Ukraine poses no threat to Russia. But it may pose a threat to Putin. Why did he aid the Syrian dictator in squelching the revolution there? Because democracies, especially strong ones, show his own people how things could be. Ukraine was doing well and getting better every day- economically, politically. Having that so close to him threatens his own status as ruler.

But putting that aside, I can understand how Russia in general would feel about having NATO military forces installed at yet another border with them. Just like we would feel if Russia or Russian allies amassed military installations in Canada and Mexico along our border.

So instead of allowing that to happen, he’s utterly destroying the nation and its people while the world watches.

I would love to hear how everyone feels about what, if anything, should be done. I just don’t know. I want to know what each person here thinks.

I feel the most important thing right now, is to let go of the “would’ve”, “should’ve” and “could’ve” mindset. The reality is we are where we are, and no amount of blaming or creating cracks within the US or the United Nations will take us back in time to change where we are today. I am most concerned about attempts to use historical Political decisions to destroy the unity we have been standing on the last couple weeks. To crack any unity would play in Putins favor. I believe our energy should instead stay focused on what we can do in the here and now. Later, we can take lessons learned from the past. IMO, this includes continuing an intentional focus on economic sanctions and giving them time to take course.

It may be happening and just not making headlines, but it would be great to see a more intentional strategic focus on humanitarian relief and aide. A solid role in saving lives rather than taking lives. This includes getting in food and medical care supplies in the same way we are getting in weapons. Headlines of Humanitarian efforts would carry us much further with a potential out of touch Russian audience than headlines of sending in weaponry. Both are important at this time, but to the mother of a Russian solider that believes in Putin, the weaponry headlines are going to trigger the emotional reaction Putin needs to maintain his narrative of events.

I also feel we should stand strong and keep showing we will increase our forces on the Nato flank. I feel Putin is attempting to trigger us in some ways. He needs to lose this War on his own without the ability to point the finger back at NATO and the US IMO.

I also feel we need to stop promoting our own fear for Putins reaction to our decisions.
