Skull found in remote area of county

A human skull, unrelated to the search for missing youth Devin Bond, was found Tuesday in the southeastern area of Rutherford County, sheriff’s detectives said.

The skull was carried by a farm dog to its owners who notified the sheriff’s office.

Detective Lt. Todd Sparks said no other remains have been found in this remote area of the county.

Detectives are investigating but are uncertain from where the dog discovered the skull.

“The skull is currently in possession of the medical examiner’s office where it will be examined for preliminary identifying characteristics,” Sparks said.

Detectives are investigating any potential leads that may help determine the identity of this person.

The medical examiner identified the remains as Jeremy Anderson of Shelbyville, said Det. Sgt. John Sweeney of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.

Anderson was in his mid-30s when he disappeared, Sweeney said. His wife reported him missing on May 26, 2018, but said he walked away from home on March 23 of that year. Neighbors last saw him walking along U.S. Highway 231.
