For 75 years, 92-year-old Olive Cooke of Bristol, England, had sold poppies to remember lost - and aid living- veterans of Britain's wars. It's estimated she sold 30,000. Even a breast cancer diagnosis in late 2013 didn't stop her.

But her high-profile charitable works came with a downside - friends report she had been inundated with requests from charities that she found hard to refuse, and had lost faith when £250 she sent to a relative went missing in the post.

Olive's body has been found at the bottom of the deep Avon Gorge, in Bristol.

Her son, Del Whelan, 62, said: “She thought she had done something wrong.” He said she also had health problems but the loss of the money and the impact of the cold-callers took their toll. “It was the constant drip of the begging letters. I think she found it difficult to say no. She had just had enough.”

Rest in peace, Olive. Thank you.

I forgot to mention Olive was a widow at 21. Her husband was killed in 1943, in WW2.

Really sad about this dear lady. :(
