Hai Bo (Paul) Lei was only 26 years old when he went missing from the Boston, Massachusetts area in 1989. He was missing for 6 years until his body was found, strangled and shot several times, off of Hampstead Road in Salem, New Hampshire, about an hours drive north of where Lei was living at the time of his disappearance. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.

He was found on March 30, 1995. New Hampshire State Police are looking for tips related to the unsolved homicide.

No additional public information has been released. I have filed a 91-A request with the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office requesting police reports, related documents, autopsy reports, recorded interviews and evidence related to his disappearance and subsequent murder.

Despite what the New Hampshire State Police posted in their cold case flyer below that Lei was last seen in 1995, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office says that Lei went missing in 1989. The date of his disappearance has not yet been confirmed.

I am looking for anyone that lived in the Boston area where Lei may have disappeared from, or the Hampstead Road area in Salem, New Hampshire where he was found murdered.

Who found Lei's body? When did he go missing? Who last saw him? Were there suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance? Were there witnesses? Did he have connections to Salem, New Hampshire? What type of evidence was collected at the scene? What type of gun was used to shoot him? What was his cause of death? How long had he been dead when his body was found? What was he strangled with? Were suspects identified? Who is his family? Are they still seeking justice? Was DNA of his murderer found during the investigation? Was he from Boston or did he immigrate from his country of origin? Could he have been a student studying in the USA? Why are no pictures available of him?

And much, much more.

Hai Bo (Paul) Lei
“March 30, 2025, marked 30 years since the tragic and violent death of Hai Bo (Paul) Lei, age 26. Paul, a resident of Boston, Mass., was discovered murdered along Hampstead Road in Salem, New Hampshire. He had been shot multiple times, bound, strangled, and his throat cut—an execution-style killing marked by both brutality and precision. The evidence at the scene, including ligatures and shell casings from a single firearm, suggested this was anything but random. Despite a comprehensive investigation conducted at the time of his death, those responsible for Paul’s murder have evaded justice for three decades.''

''To those individuals: We are asking you to come forward now—anonymously, if necessary. We believe there are still people out there who know what happened to Paul, or who heard something in the aftermath that could help. If you were part of Paul’s world, knew him casually, or simply heard something—no matter how minor it seemed—your voice matters.''

''He was quickly tied to a ring of Vietnamese and Chinese gang activity in Boston’s Chinatown, where Lei was known to have a criminal record. Police said at the time that his killing appeared to be professional in nature “by one or more people who knew what they were doing.”

In collaboration with the Massachusetts State Police, the Boston Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Salem police attempted to interview friends of Lei who may have know about his gang affiliations, but they kept quiet.

Questions at the time centered around Lei’s involvement with illegal gambling rings and gambling-related disputes. However, police said residents of Chinatown, well-known for its insularity and inclinations to kept police out of Chinese and Vietnamese affairs, did not provide much information, the Eagle-Tribune reported.''

''Boston detectives at the time speculated that Asian crime figures ordered the assassination of several players with ties to a rival gang, the Globe reported.''
