''For the locals of Upware, a small village in Cambridgeshire, the shocking discovery of a body floating in the River Cam on a quiet Sunday morning had brought residents to a standstill. The news was even more shocking for the friends and family of Ian Murray Erskine, a successful banker who had not been last seen since December 1989 before he mysteriously disappeared.
His decomposed body had been found wrapped in a plastic bag three months later, 70 miles from his home in Notting Hill. Due to the deterioration of his body, a post-mortem was unable to determine his cause of death but his card had been used a number of times since his disappearance until it was confiscated in The Netherlands.''

''Two days before he disappeared on December 15, Ian had invited a friend around to his flat for dinner. During that conversation, he had spoken about his friend, a man from Zimbabwe, who he said was coming to visit him on Friday evening.
According to his work colleagues, Ian had mentioned the Zimbabwean man and had said that he had previously served in the Army before travelling to England. It was believed that the two had met through a gay contact magazine in the months before he disappeared.''
