would the request for no help from the public be because they are fairly confident theyll find sms body in this new location?

The police have stated they received new information and that's why they are searching there. I wonder has the accused started talking.

We are presuming that the initial lawyer was just an initial lawyer.
He does not seem to have the experience for a murder case (judging by his website).
His initial lawyer was touted as being one of the top three lawyers in the area for traffic violations in one article that I read.
Probably they're old friends then?!

Maybe, but mainly to preserve evidence IMO

Victoria Police is searching bushland south of Ballarat for the body of missing Victorian woman Samantha Murphy.

Investigators said they were focusing on the Buninyong Bushland Reserve based on "intelligence derived from a number of sources".

Sounds like they either tracked his movements in the weeks following - or he finally caved and talked.

Maybe they found some thick phone books !

Just heard on Ballarat local radio.. VicPol are mounting a new search atm for SM’s body in the south Buninyong bush reserve following new information .
Public have been advised their help is not required .
"Following new information"! From the accused? Or someone else? Is the accused still being pretty constantly questioned, I wonder?

PS Ah, they're now saying "from a number of sources", I see.

I really hope she is found - for the family's sake.

They may have received more forensic data too by now, maybe his google maps location data etc?
Maybe some applied geoprofiling... how long he had before he had obligations to meet, on that Sunday morning, how far could he travel undetected, keeping in mind he has to make the journey out, and back in within a certain time frame ( killers labour under the same time restraints we all do, they only have 60 minutes to the hour, just like us ) .. what is the radius around Mt. Clear. ... ( or his Barrister finally got it across to him, probably with a bit of yelling.. 'you have to tell them where the body is',,, It is only what his lawyers, and then his Barrister would have been hammering into him all this time... . )

Dog squad and other specialised units now searching.

I could imagine they would focus firstly on road areas, easily to park and dump a body

I agree Troops, only so far he could have gone that day & swarms of people out searching early too, he would have been pressed for time IMO

I don't think he's giving / given anything up IMO

awhile ago a local suggested the yarrowee river area which is very secluded and a bit rough to get to, i wonder if its there, its about 10 mins drive from buninyong reserve bushland?

Bolded by me.

oh hell no, Sleuthy.. no WAY would he have given anything... It would be nice to think his Barrister, whoever he may be, had a bit of clout and authority, able to persuade, but, I'm with you. He held out this long, and if the drug and alcohol stuff has any bearing, he held out and was going Cold Turkey at the same time.. noooooooo.. I don't think so......

Just caught up on the thread all you regular posters are doing a wonderful job.

Glad to hear of the new search - I have a feeling in my gut that this is the search that recovers Samantha’s body.

Quite a few on this thread are still going with the possible traffic collision line which whilst is 100% possible I just don’t feel that’s what happened here - I think if it was once he knew the ‘game was up’ he’d have spoken and ultimately disclosed where the body was hoping for a lesser charge.

I feel this is more likely a sexual assault and murder
