The Ballarat Courier put out an article a few days ago ..... The many faces of community trauma.
In the first three months of 2024, the Ballarat community has suffered the effects of
- the disappearance of Samantha
- the 22-year old man being charged with Sam's murder
- the mining death of a local father, 37-year old Kurt Hourigan, after a shaft collapsed
- and bushfires in neighbouring shires ... with Ballarat serving as an emergency evacuation point and a firefighting base camp.
The article is also on the Australian Psychological Society website, due to comments (in the article) about the need for the community to support its first responders, their families, and each other.
