Australia Samantha Murphy, 51, last seen leaving her property to go for a run in the Canadian State Forest, Ballarat, 4 Feb 2024 *Arrest* #13

Is anyone else surprised that the police can seemingly take him out when he's pleading not guilty and such?

I thought it was usually when the 'killer' admits knowing where the body is and wanting to show the police. This does not seem to be the case...so..

IMO - No, didn’t Michael Atkinson plead not guilty but still led police to Matthew Leveson’s body if I remember correctly?

Wondering if Stephenson has admitted to being in the forest on that morning and VicPol are wanting him to show them exactly where he was and/or any physical proof/evidence that remains of his time there.

Maybe they have cctv footage of him actually there, so he has to get a story together about it and later go for a plea deal if it looks like he'll go down.

Maybe, but his first visit was late last year and the article mentions he is still saying he had nothing to do with this and not guilty.

So nothing seems to have changed since his first visit (that we know of anyway) and now they are taking him again..

Paywalled article…. But has tempting wording.

Maybe the police want to flush out others they could be interested in

Maybe PS is getting emotionally weaker and worn down as time goes on, and in a vulnerable state, where he just might crack this trip out to the bush..
Maybe he got ultra bored on remand. ( it is a situational hazard) and made up some yarn that got him a nice little day trip, and maybe a pub lunch and some fresh air... ..

Who wouldn’t be tempted to spin a good yarn (whether in jail or not) if it meant a mid week drive to the country, some fresh air and a pub lunch? :)

Why is this coming out now that Stephenson went for a drive last year and may go again soon, and who told the media?

Also, which forest???

I posted this earlier today, the story is paywalled, but it looks like Stephenson was being taken to the “Canadian” Forest today. I was hoping someone would post the story if they had a sub to the Herald Sun, but nothing forthcoming.
“The excursion to an area in and around the Canadian Forest in Ballarat was held “late last year” and “investigators are eager for Mr Stephenson to revisit the area”, the report states.”

The Australian article has nothing in it really, just refers to the Sun Herald article, both say PS was taken to Canadian Forest region.

The Sun Herald article is written by Anthony Dowsley as an exclusive ( he also broke the Lawyer X story ) & mentions "sources have confirmed that investigators are eager for Mr Stephenson to revisit the area in and around the Canadian Forest in Ballarat" & also mentions that a critical part of the investigation has surrounded Mr Stephenson’s internet searches
