Australia Samantha Murphy, 51, last seen leaving her property to go for a run in the Canadian State Forest, Ballarat, 4 Feb 2024 *Arrest* #13

  • #201
I'm feeling that after one year that the police don't have a clue where Mrs Murphy is. I think the only hope is that whoever killed her will finally say where she is. The family need to be able to bury their loved one. It's the least that the person responsible can do

I think it is probable that they think they know the area in which Sam lays. They just can't find the exact spot.
I think their tracking - and perhaps witnesses - eventually found where PS went that day (hence, they found Sam's phone) but the area where Sam now is may be too large to pinpoint the spot. (eg: Enfield State Park)

imo

Dunstan said the search this year will now widen to the Ballarat area, including new areas tipped off from sources.
"We also ask people who may be using these areas, particularly in the Enfield State Forest, to be aware of their surroundings and if they believe they may have come across Samantha's remains to contact police immediately," he added.

I don't think the police believed she was ever in a mineshaft from the beginning, but this could also be a smoke screen deliberately mentioned to get out to the public. But we don't know as yet

Maybe we have a journalist or insider on this site that could enlighten us on the day. Please
A brave, or truly stupid journalist , perhaps, because the point of a supression order, is, no press reportage.. one way to have your newspaper fined thousands and banned from court reporting for some time ... :p :p :p

One year ago today, 4th February, 2024, that Samantha was taken. I sincerely hope she will be found and that justice will be severe for that person who is responsible for the despicable act and even more so for withholding the whereabouts of her body.

Agree. They must have enough evidence to support their case - no public prosecutor would go into a case like this without being confident they have enough to convict. IMO that's why they delayed charges for so long, to make sure they had enough.

I find it so frustrating when a murder suspect refuses to tell authorities where the body is. Bring back the hard cops and hard questioning I say! There’s a grieving family who need to bring their loved one home.

I'd be confident the Murphy family wouldn't want the police to ride roughshod over a suspect.

The police who interviewed Greg Lynn deliberately overstepped the protocol guidelines in order to have Lynn disclose where Russell Hill and Carol Clay's bodies were located. They received ridicule later on for their methods and some evidence was disallowed as a consequence, but without their 'improvisation' the families would probably have gone to their graves never knowing where Hill and Clay's bodies were.

I think that case was a bit of an exception. There wouldn't be many circumstances where an accused intends to plead not guilty and is also able to disclose where the victim's body lies.

Why do you say that?

I’m talking a small room and the cops edge their chairs closer and closer to the suspect, closing them in to a confession. I know it’s not possible once lawyered up though.

To be fair Mandala, the key word as you say is ‘suspect’. … a ‘suspect’ may not be the ‘guilty’, nor for that matter have any involvement, in which case can hardly be expected to have the answers so desperately wanted.

Yet I do hope that those answers come soon, both for Sam & her loved ones.

By eliminating any discussion of it having been a motor accident, the police have made it abundantly clear Stephenson murdered Samantha.

Unless the police are going all in with an empty hand here - unlikely or it wouldn't have proceeded this far - they have evidence that will ensure Stephenson will be at the pleasure of his majesty for decades to come. The loose end though is where Samantha's body is.

In the Lynn case, the police saw finding the bodies for the families an even greater priority than nailing the murderer.

Sorry Cliff, I don’t understand this line. They nailed and stealthily grabbed Lynn on his solo camping trip, concerned he was at risk of fleeing or self harming. Afterwards he talked and they got his cooperation with the location of the bodies.

With Stephenson, they swooped in early one morning to pick him up, probably on that particular morning for very good reasons too. Stephenson hasn’t squawked like Lynn, so no confession or body located.

Are you suggesting the search for Samantha hasn’t been as robust or thorough as it could be, or are you alluding to something else here?

Those tactics didn't work in the William Tyrrell case. They had the wrong guy and it cost the Police $2M in a defamation lawsuit.

The better tactics by far, is being clever.

Even if they have to wait until the accused gets the life sentence. Much easier to lure a suspect with a Tim Tam once in custody than risk having a stay put on a trial due to misconduct.

Unfortunately, some people will never give out those details. You can bet the police are trying hard to squeeze information out of Bradley Robert Edwards on the whereabouts of Sarah, whilst he in custody.

There are a lot of dots in between the ones you have referred to and joined above.

Have you read Greg Haddrick's book, 'In The Still Of The Night'? I'm guessing not?
