They're searching for a 14-year old boy, who vanished without a trace in Edmonton more than 3 months ago. Fire at west Edmonton duplex linked to Samuel Bird case suspicious, EPS investigating

Edmonton fire crews responded to a blaze at a duplex in west Edmonton early Monday morning.

Crews arrived at the duplex located near 106 Avenue and 150 Street at 4:56 a.m. The fire was under control at 5:46 a.m. and declared out at 6:08 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Edmonton Fire Rescue Services investigators and the Edmonton Police Service.

This is the same house where EPS executed a search warrant on September 18. EPS has confirmed to CityNews that the warrant was related to the disappearance of Edmonton teen Samuel Bird.

The people living in the house were ALLEGEDLY selling personal items on facebook marketplace before the fire. Possibly trying to get rid of evidence and a fire seemed like a convenient way of doing so?

Samuel Bird's disappearance deemed criminal

““We believe Samuel’s body was disposed of on land, and that steps were taken to conceal the body to avoid detection,” says primary investigator Det. Jared Buhler, with the EPS Homicide Section. “We are appealing to the public, and in particular, landowners, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts who may frequent rural areas to be on the lookout for Samuel’s remains.”

Police have conducted three searches using specialized personnel and canine resources, which were not initially made public for investigative reasons. Investigators continue to work to target a specific area where Samuel’s remains may be located, and may conduct additional searches as required.“

Per the local pet find pages, ALLEGEDLY left a cat behind too. Smh.

My heart goes out to Samuel's family. I hope they receive answers and justice is pursued very soon.

Were the people in the home that had a fire renting or owners?

Let's hope if there was evidence in that house, it was obtained during the search after the warrant and that the fire won't harm the case.

The fire was close to his home, not near West Edmonton Mall, and not near the river.

Did he know someone who lived at the duplex?

What is meant by "left a cat behind"? Did he leave a cat a the duplex? If so, how did that happen? Did he live at the duplex?

"he attended the residence of a friend in the area of 150 Street and 106 Avenue, where he was last seen. Police conducted a search warrant at this residence in September."

"Police are investigating a suspicious Monday fire at a west Edmonton home officers recently searched in connection to the case of missing Edmonton teen Samuel Bird. Officers were called to the 6 a.m. suspicious fire at the home near 150 Street and 106 Avenue, police said in a late Monday news release."

He knew someone at the duplex and was last seen there before his disappearance. He did not live there.

Thank you! ... still confused about the cat.

Police have CCTV evidence of his activities on the night he disappeared, so what is the connection to the river? Were people imagining places where someone might hide a body and the river seemed like a possibility?

"Investigators are now releasing that Samuel was last seen on surveillance video at approximately 8:30 p.m. on June 1, 2025, walking through the grounds of Holy Cross School near 151 Street and 104 Avenue, after which he attended the residence of a friend in the area of 150 Street and 106 Avenue, where he was last seen. Police conducted a search warrant at this residence in September.

Investigators believe that the suspect or suspects involved in Samuel’s disappearance may have disposed of his body no more than 150 km from Edmonton, and that this occurred within a short time of his disappearance on June 1, 2025.

Otto, it is alleged on SM that the residents of the house that burned abandoned a cat when they moved.

I believe early on there was video “evidence” in which representations were made indicating SB had been dumped in water. If I heard correctly in the news conference, that was not dependable evidence.
I personally feel hopeful, even with such a large search area, that SB might now be found. I would expect he was driven to this area. No one is carrying a body too far from a road, imo. I also believe it was likely cell phone triangulation that led to their conclusion that SB is in this area.

He was 14 years old, but his friends must have been older since they had their own home, and must have had a car that was used to move his body. Was there any history of drug use? Accidental death due to overdose might cause friends to panic and hide the body.

Or, is his friend also 14 years old and the friend's parents did something to him?

I am local to this case, and I would assume that we've all speculated that he might be in the river because it is HUGE. It moves quickly and it would be the perfect place to dump a body.

The North Saskatchewan River has a length of 1,287 kilometres (800 mi), and a drainage area of 122,800 square kilometres (47,400 sq mi).

I believe that his ex girlfriend lived in the house, and she was also a minor. There are likely adults that also lived there.
