I was not sure where to put this, so here it lands. Since I have joined Websleuths, my focus has really been on cold cases where the possibility of the missing could have ended up in a vehicle under a body of water. As part of my interests, I also watch many TV shows about ancient history and the location of lost civilizations. Which brings me to the technology known as Satellite Remote Sensing. See the links below. I am wondering if this technology could possibly be used to search shallower, fresh water bodies of water in an attempt to isolate locations prior to sending in dive teams? Any thoughts?

I just spent the last few hours researching about this tech and how it can be used. Its very possible that it could be used in the way you mentioned. The biggest issue is the cost is extremely astronomical and not realistic for a SAR'S team.

There are free resources. I do not think SAR uses it because of the time delay between the images collected via satellite to the eventual dissemination of exploited information to ground teams. The SAR teams need quicker turnaround because... well you know the whole 24-48-72 rule.
