These monkeys are for medical research, I read. I say let them be free. Though I hope they aren't getting hit by cars or anything. Poor things.

I don't think they'd do well on their own though. Since they're highly social I imagine they're going to want to be with the rest of their group eventually.

Wondering what the cooing sounds mean? Maybe they're trying to reach out to the others :(

According to trusty Google, the top two reasons that Monkeys coo are:
  • Maintaining contact
Monkeys use coos to stay in touch with other members of their group, especially during foraging, resting, or group movements.

  • Identifying individuals
Monkeys can recognize each other by their coo calls, and can even discriminate between individuals based on their voices alone.
I was doing a little research on this monkey species and I was bombarded with all the information out there. These monkeys would very likely die if not captured - they have depended on humans for everything - food, shelter, etc. They likely have no idea how to find and gather food - if left, they will either die slowly of starvation or become a food source for predators.

Another thing to consider is their age. The company has said the monkeys are all "very young females". In virtually all primate species, the offspring stay attached to the mother for about 2 years. If these monkeys were pulled from their mothers before those 2 years, they are not only traumatized, they never learned how to be monkeys. If somehow they did find another troop of monkeys to be in, they have no idea what to do and would probably be rejected.

The whole situation is extremely sad and awful.

Yeah- saw that- hope they catch them soon- Florida has a feral money population which is so crazy and spreading through the state over the years!

I so hope the monkeys rule.

And hope it really impacts and hurts the deeply hypocritical people who actually claim they care about animals and animal welfare while ignoring the sick cruelty at the heart of this.

I wish for them everything they so carelessly and so callously wish on these beautiful creatures. No mercy.

Go little Monkeys, go.

Always heard of the monkeys in the woods in Titusville growing up. Never seen them because we didn’t play in those woods.
