It seems these kids think they are thugs, inner city gangsters, and life and death is all a reality show- not something with real lifelong consequences?

Their mug shots, and post bail poses- wtf?
My kid cop an attitude and they would stay in jail- not putting up 20K for a kid who is a th ug

Unbelievable, in my personal experience growing up and in working with youth- typically rural/ small town country southern youth are grounded good close-knit families and kids.

Social media is making our youth so self-centered many live in a fake teen created world of delusions, paranoia, life and death pressure, video games

Where is the adult in the room in the lives of these teens? What a waste of young lives!

IMO

This is a mess but I saw a similar case in pre SM 97 involving teens and they blamed video games and movies. In the 80s it was Heavy Metal and the 70s it was demon possession. 60s of course it was hippie cults. You are spot on with alot of youth being well raise and grounded and what can make these teens fall into messes like this is really a mystery. I think some of this crowd got caught up in the moment and that's why I posted earlier that I thought some of them would talk, eventually.

I don’t think they are living in reality
It seems they are living in a reality show, a delusion… as if they haven’t ever experienced real consequences for their actions… until someone is dead.

There is no rite of passage, no expectation that they behave as an adult taking on real responsibilities…

It is sick

IMO

Longer story with details, not sure if anything new:

I'm one county over from this incident. I kept seeing tidbits of the story but hadn't read anything on it. I did not realize these were all young people and the victim was only 16 years old.

I just saw a picture of the victim with a snake around his neck. I wonder if he's the kid I met at a city event who let me hold his snake.

I just completed jury duty for 2 young men who were teens when a 16 year old was lured to town by a teen girl, shot and killed. I will tell you in this case, jealousy, greed, poverty, wanting to present oneself as a bad ass, peer pressure, immaturity, lack of empathy, and living in the moment played a part in his murder.

So many teens are lacking common sense and care and concern for others (outside their group of family and friends).

Good, I hope they are successful. 15 and 16 is plenty old enough to know the consequences and finality of murder. Let them suffer them.

To me, the key question is did the girlfriend know that the other teen would a) have a and and/or b) use it to "scare" the boyfriend.

My (uneducated) opinion is this was meant to scare the boy but the teen who pulled the trigger lost control of his emotions, thought he was powerful, whatever.. .things escalated and he became fearful of the boyfriends size and strength and pulled the trigger when he was about to be punched/tackled. Killing someone by shooting them is NOT self defense if they were jsut trying to punch you out.

Legally it may not matter. So if these defendants want to make those arguments, they better play those cards quickly with the DA and cut a deal.

Totally agree. And i's probably going on behind the sense now as the prosecution is forming their case.

IMO, several of those charged right now will get a deal with no charges filed if they FULLY cooperate with the police/prosecutors on their intimate knowledge of the 2 main characters involved in the murder.. the girlfriend and the shooter.

All of the ones there could be charged with Accessory After the Fact if they didn't report the murder (thus hiding the identities of those heavily involved) which probably they didn't.

Yeh, I know this is common knowledge but sometimes where we are heavily interested in a particular crime, we forget about those common practices.

EDIT: After watching a couple of news reports and comments from the prosecutor. it looks like several of them were HEAVILY involved. I take back what I said partially, they will still be charged but with a lesser crime is my opinion
