He's still not in Namus. No updates on Doenet. http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/152umsc.html
I was working at psychiatric hospitals around this time (1997). Many hospitals had the admitting nurse take photos of patients (polaroids) to put into their charts or medication logs for identification purposes, as arm bands were not used due to safety issues. I'll never forget the toothless old guy who did the perfect impression of "Bitter Beer Face" for his picture - it took all I had not to burst out laughing! Why would they take his picture in the hospital? And if they did, it probably would be protected by privacy laws.

Yeah I noticed that right away after I saw the namus profile while browsing namus. I knew this John Doe was on the doe network closed cases section. This body has been added to NamUs as #UP156273: I could see this as being either the DN having made a mistake and he is still unidentified, or Aiken County Coroner’s Office making a mistake and entering in a resolved case. Both scenarios happen annoyingly frequently.

He was added alongside a different Aiken County case from 1987, #UP156238 and the former DN 1UMSC, which Doe Network also listed as resolved in the same batch of cases from across South Carolina at the end of 2018 which cited “South Carolina Law Enforcement Division” as their source. I have reached out to Aiken County Coroner's office - newer staff are revisiting some older cases where they are not able to currently confirm through documentation, etc, that an identification has taken place. Any respective cases will be removed once identification is confirmed. I appreciate the conversation with the office and their commitment.
In the past I have seen that happen and I enquired with DN and was told that they changed the case to identified because it had been removed from the coronor/law enforcement website. I'm wondering in this case if that happened because the coronor changed their URL and don't seem to have listed the cases on their new site. Not sure that is what happened here but thought i'd mention it.Yeah I noticed that right away after I saw the namus profile while browsing namus. Doe network sometimes though rarely lists a case as solved even though it is unsolved. In the past I have seen that happen and I enquired with DN and was told that they changed the case to identified because it had been removed from the coronor/law enforcement website.
