Police quiet on Mount Pleasant woman's shooting death

"By Friday morning, Witherspoon had been dead for at least six days; however, news of her death was not publicly disclosed until a Post and Courier inquiry into the case following a tip by a member of the public. "

The Town of Mt Pleasant, in my opinion, tends to not like to be too open about these sort of things. The Town thrives on tourism from nearby Charleston, as well as a residential (condos/apartments) explosion.

A Google street view of her home has the property across from her completely greyed out. It appears to be some construction going on. I plan to take a drive out there today or tomorrow to take it look at the place.

I had thought possibly suicide, but someone has been charged with grand larceny in relation to the case.

That's scary that he was only charged with stealing her car and then released. Especially if he claimed to have met with her after when the coroner's office thinks she had already died.

Mount Pleasant police charge man with murder in Old Village slaying

Mount Pleasant police have charged a man with murder a little over two weeks after officers discovered a woman dead inside an Old Village home.

Norman Philip Browne, a 44-year-old Charleston resident, was apprehended in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday and charged, said Inspector Chip Googe, a spokesman for the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Browne had previously been charged with stealing Witherspoon’s car, police stated.

Browne told investigators that he met Witherspoon on Feb. 6 in Myrtle Beach and drove her back to Mount Pleasant “after she got injured during their meeting,” according to an arrest affidavit.

He said he then left Mount Pleasant in the Cadillac the night of Feb. 6, drove home to Myrtle Beach and returned the car to Witherspoon at 8 p.m. Feb. 7 in Wilmington, N.C., the affidavit stated.

Police believe Witherspoon was already dead at the time Browne claimed he gave the car back.

Mount Pleasant police: Murder suspect owed victim $20K before killing her; staged death scene

The man accused of killing a 60-year-old woman in her Mount Pleasant home in early February was indebted to her for $20,000, a newly released arrest affidavit shows.

Norman Phillip Browne, 44, was taken into custody in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday night and charged with murder in the death of Ann Witherspoon, whose body was found Feb. 9 in her Seminole Street home after a friend reported her missing.

Witherspoon had been struck over the head with an unknown object, then shot, authorities said, adding that they believe she was killed in her home.

Well at least they finally charged him with murder and arrested him. I have a lot of friends who live in the Old Village in Mt. P and have not heard anything about this.
