LADY’S ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after Lady’s Island resident discovered human remains in the marsh near the airport.

The remains are believed to be that of an adult male. The Beaufort County Coroner removed the remains after the area was examined for evidence.

The sheriff’s office said the remains were “partially skeletonized” and appeared to be those of an adult male.

After the area was examined for evidence, Beaufort County Coroner Edward Allen removed the remains from the scene.

BCSO said that due to the condition of the remains, the cause of death was not immediately apparent.

A forensic autopsy will be performed this week to help determine the cause and manner of the man’s death, as well as his identity.

Namus doesn't show any recent missing people for Beaufort County. The most recent disappeared in 2013 and would likely be more than partially skeletonized by now.

Ok, so according to that it is not Malik. It's a man who was just reported missing on Sunday even though he had been gone since mid-December. Someone apparently lied to his family and said the man went to Florida with a girlfriend. The family of the man was searching for him in that area when the body was found.

Missing man's 'partially skeletonized' body found in marsh
The Island Packet reports county Deputy Coroner David Ott said Tuesday that the body is that of 54-year-old Joseph Gardner Jr. The sheriff's office says the body was found Feb. 3 by relatives of Ott who were searching for him. He had been reported missing that same day, though he was last seen by relatives in December.
