Father of missing Chili teen reflects on five years -

http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S3411583.shtml?cat=565

I saw this tonight. I also heard Chad D on the Breakfast Buzz (Rochester radio station) this morning. He made sure to slam his ex-wife for moving to Myrtle Beach. I personally think Dawn moved to be closer to the search efforts but she also relocated for work since she was laid off in Rochester.

I just hate to see those 2 sides argue; I think it hurt the investigation from the beginning especially when CD first came out and said BD ran away. It made people for the first couple of months not take it seriously.

ETA: said they were going to MB to interview Dawn.

I really wish those sunglasses found led to something of importance in this case. If my memory serves me right, didn't Dawn Drexel and Brittanee's boyfriend say the glasses resembled the ones Britt had gotten for her birthday or Christmas (I can't remember which, sorry)??

The sunglasses found were a pair of Prada sunglasses (in plastic bag). In the photo of BD at the beach in my opinion she is wearing a pair of Oakley sunglasses. You can see the O on the left frame. Of course she could have bought a pair Prada sunglasses while in Myrtle Beach.

Thinking of Brittanee and her family today! I saw on the news that they are planting a tree for Brittanee somewhere in MB today. :(

Oakley sunglasses at about $135 are very inexpensive compared with Prada sunglasses. If they are real, she would have had to bring three or four hundred dollars to pay for them. Everything I've read seemed to show that she didn't have much money with her.
I really wish she would be found. Where can she be????:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Do any of our MB locals know if there are street vendors or shops that sell knock off Prada sunglasses?

I enlarged that photo of Britt by holding down 'ctrl' and pressing '+' times 4 and I don't think those glasses are Oakley because it looks like 2 circles, IMO. (hold the ctrl button and press '-' (minus) times 4 to get back to 'normal'.) However, I am not sure they are Prada either. Any ideas? A WS member filed a FOIA request with the state of SC and IIRC he was denied. :(

I'm having a difficult time enlarging the photo with the CTRL method. It seems to come out very grainy and I can't make out what the symbol looks like. However, if you see the symbol as 2 circles, it could very well be Chanel brand shades. The Chanel symbol consists of 2 letter "C's" that overlap one another. I know Chanel was very popular with young girls around Britt's age in the 2008-2010 time frame.

ETA: I finally got the picture to enlarge so I could see the symbol better. The sunglasses on Britt do in fact look like Oakley's. However, its difficult to be 100% sure they are Oakley's because a couple strands of her hair is hanging right in the middle of the symbol.

I'd be really curious to hear her mother's response to this question....because....I really doubt BD could've purchased them on her own. Just thinking, if she did own a pair of originals, her mother likely purchased them...

This is such a sad case. Been thinking about all the possibles of what could have happened.

If her friends ditched her so they could go off and party more by themselves , then I could see her being lonely and depressed. She was so vulnerable at that point if that is what happened.

I wonder if she began crying outside on the streets and some opportunist perp befriended her and offered her to come to his place to party and cheer her up.

Once inside, then he basically had 1 thing on his mind and when she objected he killed her for sex. Then just somehow loaded her up and took her to the dumping grounds where cell phone pinged.

I think the guy is local for sure. Someone who knew that area where cell phone pinged.

I know this was probably discussed before, but would it be possible that Brittanee's remains are unrecoverable if her body was dumped at the swampy area in Georgetown county with all the hogs, alligators, etc. there? I really hope not. :(

I don't think Britt bought the sunglasses in MB. I am pretty sure that the sunglasses Britt had were a gift from her grandmother (CD mom). They were in her Easter basket in 2009, right before the trip to MB. When the sunglasses were found, I believe there was a news article that stated as such and they were trying to verify with the grandmother that they were the same glasses she had given her for Easter.

Thank you for linking the article. I wonder what new technologies has been able to find? Hmmm wonder if the cell phone is still out there somewhere. I think someone said (a page or so back there was police presence) near where the other searches were for Britt. I'm gonna go back and check.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -
Authorities along the Grand Strand say that they will conduct another search for a teen girl from New York who disappeared in this area several years ago.

Less than 2 months ago, dozens gathered for a vigil on the 5-year anniversary of when Brittanee Drexel disappeared in Myrtle Beach.

The then 17-year-old from Rochester, New York was in area on a spring break trip.

Brittanee was most recently seen April 25, 2009 on surveillance video leaving the Bluewater Resort in Myrtle Beach. She walked north on South Ocean Boulevard.

Five years later investigators say they still get a steady stream of tips and call the Drexel case "open and active."

A search for Brittanee happened in Georgetown County in March 2014. Myrtle Beach Police would not elaborate on what information led them there other than to say it was new cell phone data collected through technology improvements.
Now, Capt. David Knipes of Myrtle Beach Police confirms that officers will be conducting another search related to the Drexel case in Georgetown/Charleston Counties this weekend.

This is the March search I was referencing in my previous post. I thought a few years back the wildlife preserve was searched.

this was posted on the Heather Elvis thread and thought it was more relevant to Brittanee's case. I don't know how to move a post so I am copying and pasting.

This area is on the north end of the Francis Marion forest in between McClellanville and Georgetown.

I sure do hope this is for Heather and today is the day she comes home!

I wanted to follow up on this earlier post...we checked out the area where we initially saw the search party (a wildlife viewing spot near the river) on the way home, and the entrance had been blocked off with orange cones and a no parking sign (it wasn't like that this morning). Not sure if that means anything, but thought I'd share. Also, the search party was mostly LE from what we could see. I forgot to mention that earlier.

I've followed along for so long now, it gave me goosebumps when we passed by. I just feel like they must be there for Heather. I sure hope I'm right.

I don't know what's new or been uncovered but I'm so glad they are still actively pursuing this case. Can't wait to see some new evidence (or remains) found. Her momma deserves to bring her home.
