Defense attorney Andrew Moorman just completed his cross-examination of GCSO cellular forensic technician Charlie Cunningham.

During direct examination, the State asked Cunningham about a number of cellular devices he extracted data from while investigating the murder of Christina Parcell -- including the phones of Parcell, Hughes and Mello.

While on cross, Moorman asked Cunningham about the device he extracted data from that was not discussed during his direct examination... that of Bradly Post.

The prosecution team visibly tensed as the questioning continued.

Moorman then asked if the data extracted had been forwarded to an investigator.

The State objected. The judge overruled but warned Moorman to proceed cautiously.

Moorman thought before he asked each question, knowing he was walking a very thin line, but he impressively managed to not cross it.

By the end of cross, the jury learned:

1) investigators had extracted data from Post's phone
2) the State had not introduced Post's extraction at trial
3) whatever information the download had contained was sent to a GCSO investigator

If they’re resting tomorrow they better have a jam up day planned because so far they have presented the most discombobulated case I’ve ever seen. They have over-focused on trying to prove a motive in my opinion.
If they truly have ZH’s DNA under CP’s fingernails, as they claimed when they arrested him, they are way past needing to present that and scream it to the housetops.
The evidence shows ZH is guilty(if the DNA is under the fingernails) but the prosecution better hope the jury can put the pieces together themselves because the prosecution sure hasn’t.

That’s just how I see it anyway.

The @TheWillFolks
is filling in for me at the Rose Petal trial this morning so I can attend preliminary hearings in the Jessica Barnes case in Anderson which begin at 10 AM.

@TheWillFolks

I've covered a lot of trials, but the testimony related to the stab wounds sustained by #RosePetalMurder victim Christina Parcell is among the most jarring I've ever heard. Forensic pathologist Dr. Clare Rose's calm, dispassionate description of these wounds - and their catastrophic impact - is absolutely harrowing.

After presenting DNA evidence implicating Zach Hughes in the #RosePetalMurder of Christina Parcell (which referenced a likelihood factor of 825 MILLION that his DNA was under her fingernails) the S.C. thirteenth circuit solicitor's office has RESTED its case.

  • Lead investigator Jarrad Sparkman testified they did not take Bradley Post’s phone till October 19, nearly a week after the murder of his fiancé. Defense attorney Mark Moyer on cross suggested Post was deleting photos from his phone as he waited for law enforcement to arrive following the discovery of Parcell’s body. Criminal charges are pending against Post after a forensic examination of his phone revealed thousands of images of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.
  • The medical examiner who performed the autopsy on Christina Parcell’s body opined that her death was due to sharp force trauma, 35 stab and incised wounds, likely caused by a knife.
  • Analyst Tim Nafzinger testified that DNA found under Christina Parcell’s fingernails on her right hand was 825 million times more likely to belong to Zachary Hughes than anyone else.
  • Defense moved for directed verdicts and made a motion for a mistrial challenging the chain of custody on the DNA evidence. Motions were denied.

The defense will begin presenting their case today in the trial of Zachary Hughes in Greenville, S.C.

Based on motions being argued now, it appears the defense is poised to present a defense of others case.

Asst Solicitor Jake Hofferth is arguing defense of John Mello's daughter doesn't apply as she was not in imminent danger. The child was at school at the time of Parcell's murder.

"The State would exhaustively move that this is inappropriate in this case." - Hoffert

The courtroom is packed today. Seating is extremely limited.

"This is a very unique case with very unique facts." Defense attorney Andrew Moorman.

Zachary Hughes should be able to defend himself in this case just as (the minor) would have been able to defend herself against her mother or Bradly Post. - Moorman
