On January 7, 1984, 20-year-old Daniel "Danny" Jay Fools vanished from Sumter, South Carolina, leaving his family in a relentless search for answers that has now spanned over four decades. Danny, was serving in the U.S. Army at the time, was last that evening celebrating his oldest brothers birthday. sudden disappearance was marked by unsettling signs: he never returned to collect his personal belongings, failed to retrieve his paycheck, and his tools were discovered pawned at a local shop. Despite these red flags, the trail has remained cold, and Danny's identical TWIN brother, Don, continues to grapple with the agony of not knowing his sibling's fate.

The lack of immediate and thorough investigative action has only deepened the family's despair and mistrust in the system designed to protect and serve. As time marches on, the urgency to unearth the truth about what happened to Danny intensifies.

We implore anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. It's imperative to break the silence that has shrouded this case for too long. Danny's family deserves closure, and those responsible must be held accountable. If you have any details regarding Daniel "Danny" Jay Fools' disappearance, please contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Office or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers. Justice delayed is justice denied; it's time to bring Danny home.

January 7 was a Saturday with low temps below freezing.

There is a lot more info on the Namus profile, and some contradicting information as well regarding the vehicle, which was apparently found by the family off of I-95 exit a little more than a mile from the family home.

Info indicates he was serving in Army at the time - I wonder if he was reported as AWOL by the Army? (which is typical in missing person cases, and I believe does sometimes affect local investigation).

Yes his brother had reported that to the Military back in 84 and yes I agree

According to the NamUs profile, the vehicle was located with:
"...no physical signs of a struggle. Hood was up, battery dead, car out of gas, keys on top of car, eyeglasses in the road, drivers side door closed, passenger door opened."

Can anyone make any sense of this, what the scenario could be?

Possibilities maybe?
1) A hit-and-run and then a very bad scenario afterwards.
Possibly a third party came across the vehicle later and stole the tools inside and pawned them.
2) He was a victim of homicide, and the scene with his car was later staged? Or was the actual scene where he was abducted?
3) He staged all of it because he just needed to get away, and then later, it felt too difficult to go back to his previous life?

Of course there are other possibilities.

IDK, but #3 seems unlikely to me. Also eyeglasses in the road are a sign of a struggle, unless they were staged, IMO.

What a tragedy for him and his family. I wonder what family and LE think happened?
