Back on the stand, Ricard starts to get emotional when looking back on Elias, whom she says she was really close with. She says he sometimes put things in his pockets that he shouldn't have, but she says he was really sweet.

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 24m24 minutes ago
Prosecution now showing a video of Elias learning how to read with Ricard. She says he was part of a special program that gave extra attention to children who might not have had a lot of academic support at home, something she says "they both looked forward to."

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 21m21 minutes ago
Mayes finishes her first line of questioning. Ricard still on the stand, getting very emotional. Rob Madsen of the defense is about to begin his cross-examination.

Ricard steps down from the stand.

Up next is Joy Lorick, a former babysitter for Jones's children who testified May 29 that she went with the family to Disney and Myrtle Beach the summer before the murders and that she called DSS in August 2014.

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 11m11 minutes ago
Lorick starts to shed some tears on the stand, saying that the children "always had an impact" and could brighten even the worst of days.

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 7m7 minutes ago
Prosecution putting some pictures of the children playing with each other and smiling up on display for the jury to see.

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 4m4 minutes ago
Lorick says she lost sleep the days after she found out the children died.

The principal leaves the stand, shakes hands with State attorney, goes to back of courtroom and sits down.

Babysitter Joy returns and takes the stand. She's already near tears.

Tim Jr. looking positively hostile. (Seriously, he is GLARING at her).

I noticed the glaring earlier in the trial too. He seemed to reserve the hateful glares for women who, I guess, he perceived as not allowing themselves to be controlled or manipulated by him. Such as Amber, the DSS lady, Joy Lorick, and Dr Cruz, in particular.

I really think it is a mistake by the defense to counter every picture of the children with pictures of Jones with the children. I think it only points out to the jury that Jones loved his kids....and still chose to kill every one of them. Kinda like “ oh, that’s a sweet picture....oh yeah, he killed them”.

How can anyone reconcile he "loved his children" with he "killed his children"? IMO, both can't be true, perhaps ever, but certainly not in this case.

Perhaps jurors will look at those photos of a smiling Tim Jr. with his babies and be disturbed by/wonder how it's possible for such a a soulless, vicious baby killer to look so normal.

Mercy or death? Jury takes up dad's fate for killing 5 kids

Jun 6, 2019

"...The sentencing phase of Jones' trial started Thursday with brief opening statements, then took a 30-minute break after a juror started crying hard as the first witness showed the five trash bags founAlso on Thursday, prosecutors showed short cellphone videos of three of the children sent to their mother by Jones after he left her, saying she could no longer stand how the strictly religious Jones treated her as his inferior.

In the videos, the children are crying or sad, begging their mom to come back. Jones was taken out of the courtroom crying after the videos were shown.

Prosecutors played a tape of a phone call Jones had with family members from prison four months after the killing.
During the call, Jones blamed the killings of the children on his anger over his ex-wife, Amber Kyzer, who he said cheated on him with a teenager who lived next door. Jones won sole custody of the kids.d on a hillside near Camden, Alabama, with the bodies of the children inside....

Several days of emotional testimony are expected. Prosecutor Suzanne Mayes promised to tell the stories of each of the children and what made them unique.

She also warned there would be graphic descriptions of what the children went through, calling it torture...

The sentencing phase is expected to last several days."

He's a wicked and evil man. He has no mitigating "excuse". He's just evil and he deserves death for it. I can't even fathom the level of depravity involved in torturing and killing your own helpless and dependent babies.

How does one exercise someone to death?!I have seen this pop up a couple of times with this case, but not really any details.

That's something I questioned:

Dr Ross-The autopsies:

Streamed live on May 20, 2019

(starts @ approx 1:30:30 )
-------------------------------------------------------------------

"...The Autopsies: (Warning: graphic descriptions)...

John Doe 5 (Nahtahn): His body was wrapped in two bags, open at scene, covered with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comforter. He had brown hair, undetermined eye color, and natural teeth. The tissue loss on his left lower thigh above his knee was close to bone. His bone showed evidence of use of sharp object, such as a saw on the bone. On his left elbow was tissue loss on the back. There was also tissue loss on his knee exposing thigh bone showing incisor injury on left femur.

A photo of left knee entered into evidence and the jury was able to see where a sharp object cut it above knee joint.
Ross’ report continued, saying there was no evidence of natural disease, and that there was a 50cc (1 cup) of food substance (only one with food in stomach)

Ross was asked is it possible to kill a child through physical exertion. She said yes, because a child dehydrates faster, and strenuous activity over a period of time would cause dehydration. She said weakness, disorientation are signs of dehydration and it would take 15-20 minutes/depending on child to present symptoms.

Because of decomposition, Ross couldn’t rule out strangulation. The state of the body made determination difficult, so Ross listed his cause of death initially as undetermined; later, she amended to homicidal violence. Manner: homicide

The defense asked Ross if she was able to determine time of death, specifically if it was on Aug 28. Ross answered that the decomposition of a body cannot determine date of death because of changing conditions in the environment.

But there was nothing inconsistent in evidence to dispute the way that Timothy Jones said it all happened...."

Exercising the six year old to death is his main story of how this all started. Excessive exercise was his form of discipline....known to most of the world as torture.
But he also told two correction officers that he choked Nahtahn to death in a rage and then choked Merah when she walked in and witnessed it. I think the story to the correction officers has a better chance of being true.

Pretty sure that right there would be enough for me to sign off on death.

I've seen other tragic cases where the child died due to overexertion.

One case I remember was where a grandmother purposefully made her young granddaughter run for hours never letting her rest or giving her water. She literally ran her granddaughter to death. She was charged with murder, rightfully so.

Unfortunately we have seen this cruel form of abuse done by other parents/grandparents against defenseless children.

Those who did so also grossly abused the children in many other abusive ways.

IMO, the jury will recommend he be put to death because it is the only just punishment that fits what this monster has done to these 5 children.

Imo

I remember that murder too. Her name was Savannah Hardin, and she was 9 years old. Her grandmother forced her to run for 3 straight hours, even though Savannah begged for rest, and even after she began vomiting, still running.

Savannah's grandmother killed her because she lied (no doubt out of terror) about eating a candy bar.

As for whether or not this jury will vote DP? Can't think of very many surer trial outcomes. The defence asked them to consider the value of Tim Jr.'s life, and told them they could look anywhere & consider anything as mitigation. What value? What mitigation? He has never even pretended to take responsibility or to feel remorse.

The best his defence team could offer to try to save his life is that Jr. is "sick" (already rejected by jury), that his family had suffered enough death, and that God could find uses for him "in dark places."

It's not a close call.

First witness on the stand is Jacquelyn Moran, a teacher at Saxe Gotha Elementary School. She was Elias's first grade teacher, remembers him as a kid who "was friends with everybody."
Within minutes of her testimony, she starts to get emotional on the stand.

"Everyone loved to be friends with everybody, he was the kid who would play with anyone who needed a friend, he was curious, he loved school because he loved to learn," Jacqueline Moran, Eli Jones' first grade teacher testifies. Tears are flowing and it's only 9a. @wis10

Courtney King‏ @CourtReportKing 17m17 minutes ago
Eli Jones' first grade teacher is on the stand. Jacqueline Moran is crying on and off and she describes what he was like with the other kids. Moran says everyone wanted to be Eli's friend. #TimothyJones @wachfox

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 25m25 minutes ago
Prosecution starts to show some pictures of Elias in the classroom reading and interacting with his classmates. "He was a friend...he would try to help anyone who needed it...everyone loved Eli."

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 17m17 minutes ago
Prosecution displays a project Eli worked on in her class talking about his younger brother, Nahtahn. He wrote, "I love Tahn because he gives me things to play with...thank God for making my brother."

Courtney King‏ @CourtReportKing 18m18 minutes ago
Moran reads a paper Eli wrote thanking God for his younger brother, Nahtahn. He writes, "I love Tahn.... thank you, thank you, thank you." @wachfox #TimothyJones

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 16m16 minutes ago
As Moran reads the note Elias wrote, Jones gets emotional and starts wiping his eyes with the red handkerchief from yesterday.

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 14m14 minutes ago
Moran stands with Deputy Solicitor Suzanne Mayes in front of the jury, reading a progress book compiled by students over the course of a school year which also described his goals and aspirations.

Caroline Hecker‏Verified account @CHecker_WIS 6m6 minutes ago
"This is something that I struggle with, I struggle daily. I see his friends, it’s hard, some days are easier but he’s always there. It’s hard for me to put into words," Eli's 1st grade teacher testifies, through sobs. @wis10

Tim Scott‏ @TimScottTV 7m7 minutes ago
When talking about how the loss of Elias impacts her, Moran says she "struggles daily...some days are better than others."
Rob Madsen of the defense begins his cross-examination, asking more questions angled towards times where she interacted with Jones.
