Deputies at Old Piedmont Highway in Greenville are searching for a missing person.
  • Gary Lance George, 38, was last seen Jan. 7 at 10 p.m. near 112 Halter Drive in Piedmont.
  • George is 5'11" tall and 180 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Greenville at 23-CRIME or the sheriff's office at (864)271-5210.

"A missing man was found dead in Greenville County.

According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, an unidentified body of an adult man was found Sunday morning at around 8:20 a.m. near Brown Road in Piedmont, which is being described as a rock quarry.

A death investigation was underway by the sheriff’s office and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies said search and rescue teams were searching for Gary Lance George, a missing person, when they found the body.

The coroner’s office has confirmed to 7NEWS the body found was 38-year-old Gary Lance George, of Easley. George was reported missing on Jan. 7 at 10 p.m. near Halter Drive".

On Saturday, people gathered for his memorial at the Greenville Pickens Speedway to honor his memory and his love for racing. Those in attendance were encouraged to bring race cars, trucks or motorcycles for the car show and a five-lap ride around the track in his memory.

At dark, friends and family shared memories of him and lit lanterns in his honor.
