I have no perspective on chloroform in the movies. The most recent case I recall was that of Jessica Ridgeway where the perpetrator used homemade chloroform in a kidnapping attempt. His victim overpowered him when she first smelled a substance. That's why he sought a smaller victim.

In Heather's case, I believe death was the greater goal, so a fatality would likely be viewed by the perpetrator a plus.

It occurred to me because I think this was a situation where swiftness was desired. I don't know how she was subdued but chemicals I would think would be an option to avoid a fight. I'm sure there are an array of other options as well.

Yea I don't see why they would bother with chemicals when there are much easier ways.

Chloroform takes about 5 minutes or so for it to work as an anesthetic.

It is profoundly sad that Heather is nowhere to be found. In the wee hours of the morning, it can really pull at the heartstrings, the Elvis's pain truly palpable and in the air.

To whoever is responsible for creating this tragedy, I hope you still have a bit of a conscience left so it will haunt you relentlessly. And when you look in the mirror, remember, you will never be free again because you have become a prisoner of your own mind. Where.Is.Heather. ????

Missing Myrtle Beach woman’s case underscores awareness for student safety
http://www.weeklysurge.com/2014/01/15/3960197/missing-myrtle-beach-womans-case.html

(some quotes)Bolded by me

Elvis, a former Horry-Georgetown Technical College student who switched to an online academy, was dropped off at her home from a date at 2 a.m. and called her roommate to let her know how the date went. Her father received a text message around 11 p.m. with a photo of her date’s truck. Her date was teaching her how to drive a manual shift, which her roommate drives. Heather’s car, a 2001 dark green Dodge Intrepid, was found locked and parallel parked at the Peachtree Boat Landing in Socastee, eight minutes from her home.

<modsnip>

“People are really coming out and reporting,” says Toni Birchler, a volunteer at the tent. “One family stopped by and prayed with us.” Birchler says people have reported a car parked in an empty lot for two days and then disappearing, two kids walking down the road at night with hats on, and other things that wouldn’t necessarily seem strange. “It’s nothing, but they’re finding things that don’t fit their normal lives.”

Terry Elvis echoes Moore’s advice to young people and college students in the area and advises for them to find safety in numbers. “Don’t take your safety for granted. In a moment’s notice, it can change. Stay in touch with your parents. Call them every day. Let someone know you’re safe. The world we live in is not the one I grew up in. People hide the evil that they are.”

Search for missing centered in Myrtle Beach

VJEFFREY COLLINS, Associated Press
Posted January 12, 2014 at 9:49 p.m.
http://www.independentmail.com/news/2014/jan/12/search-missing-centered-myrtle-beach/

Elvis was last heard from around 3 a.m. on Dec. 17, when she called a family member to talk about how a date she was on had gone well, her family said. She was reported missing the next day when her car was found at a boat ramp about 8 miles from her home, Horry County Police Lt. Robert Kegler said.

Caison said one of the biggest changes in the 20 years her organization has been around is that law enforcement takes missing persons cases much more seriously from beginning, instead of waiting days or weeks to launch investigations.

"They get it now," she said. "Back in the day they didn't throw the resources at these cases, assuming first somebody wanted to disappear."

Her friends in law enforcement have gotten used to seeing her around Myrtle Beach, which is 75 miles from her home in Wilmington, N.C.

Investigation into disappearance of Heather Elvis continues
http://www.wmbfnews.com/story/24273295/horry-county-police-investigating-missing-woman

A task force with seven different state and local agencies is working to find Elvis. Now the national media has come asking questions, included Nancy Grace and Good Morning America.

Heather's father, Terry Elvis, has been reaching out to the media outlets for air time, saying, "even if it was one lead they got then it was worth it."

Terry Elvis says tips came in after his daughter's story first aired on Nancy Grace. A question which came up during that interview was where Heather's cell phone is, and where did it last have a ping.

According to Lt. Kegler, her cell phone hasn't been recovered. "I can't get into the location on where it gave anyone signal or anything like that. That information wasn't something we have established it was something provided to us," he said.

Tilted Kilt Offices have also donated their digital advertising to put up pictures and information on Heather.

Lamar Advertising has also donated additional billboards. The CUE Center says as of Friday, 13 digital billboards across the Grand Strand will be flashing Heather's information.

The last time anyone spoke to her was about 3 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, after she went on a date.

Her mother said her date dropped her off at her house. Heather called her roommate to tell her how she had a great time. That is the last time anyone will admit to talking to her.

Caison wants to call out to experienced boaters and fishermen that have boats and can help search to contact her directly at 910-343-1131.

Heather Elvis's car was found abandoned in a parking area in Socastee on Thursday, December 19. Terry Elvis identified the car, and said that it did not appear to have any damage.

The Department of National Resources has been on patrol on the Intracoastal Waterway searching for the Heather, said Sergeant Nate Hutson with DNR. Lt. Kegler confirmed that DNR was assisting them in their search.

Heather stopped by her parents' house Tuesday to pick up mail. She did not show up or call in for her scheduled shift at the Tilted Kilt on Friday, December 20, her father said.

Chloroform is not a realistic way of subduing someone. What you see in the movies is not at all how it would work. It takes some time and the dosing has to be right because it can easily be fatal.
RE: What you see in the movies is not at all how it would workVinny, many times art imitates reality, and vice versa;

Seventeen year old Austin Sigg(CO), abductor/murderer of 10 year old Jessica Ridgeway used chloroform in an abduction attempt of a 22 year old female jogger. The jogger was able to overpower him removing the chloroformed rag from her face. Sigg, a serial killer in training imo, lowered his expectations for his next known unsuspecting victim..

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/jessica...n-colo-girls-murder-expected-to-plead-guilty/

An investigator testified that Sigg used homemade chloroform concocted with a recipe found on the Internet to attempt to subdue the woman.

A veteran Myrtle Beach Police Officer says that there is a glimmer of hope in the case of missing 17 year old Brittanee Drexel. Sgt. Interesting. So 2 months after BD was last seen, LE thought she was still alive based on "intimate" (not released?) information. I wonder if that was related to the cell phone pings moving south. Hindsight is 20-20, but I can't see that being the prevailing attitude now.

I hope history is not repeating itself in this case.

All available investigative resources are critical in missing/murdered persons' investigations. An aware community is a safer community, imo..
Many times folks will make the argument; 'this is reality, not CSI, Criminal Minds, Discovery ID, Cold Case Files, etc., cases do not get solved in one hour'.. Imo, these shows have given a voice to the over 100,000 missing/murdered persons in the US; the 'Silent Epidemic'.. The awareness of this unfortunate plight, created by these shows, should not be underestimated, imo..

Chattanooga TN - Police say they've finally solved a cold case that's been eluding them for 16 years. An arrest has been made in the 1997 murder of a young mom, whose body was found stabbed to death in the woods.

Murder victim Vicrotia Carr Witherspoon Hollingsworth, known as Vicky by her loved ones, went missing in 1997.

Chattanooga investigators recently teamed up with the TNT show "Cold Justice" and used their forensic testing resources to help convince a Hamilton County Grand Jury to indict Vicky's estranged husband.

Local detectives say the show provided additional homicide investigators as well as forensic lab testing that would've taken CPD about a year to receive results on if they were on their own.

BBM I can't imagine someone coming in 16 years later and have IMMEDIATE access to lab results that the local LE would not. I can see advanced technology that was not available 16 years ago.

I hope this case does not have to go cold before every available resource is brought to bear.

How many woman here have gone though the "affair" stage with the husband? I mean, how many here have known about your OMM having an affair with a younger woman? If you have, you know the rage that pulses through your veins every time he goes out, gets a text you can't read, or is late coming home from work. You are aging and she is young, pretty, running after your husband and getting the attention that you should be getting, wouldn't that be enough to make you so mad you would see red? You have a home, children, money, jobs and a life you built together, are you mad that a 20 something is trying to get that and take it away from you? The fact he finds another woman attractive and desirable, are you seeing red yet? You don't have to answer, but I can tell you, there is a line that is crossed and you have to keep your rage in check, and it is very easy to cross over into a place of no return. Just saying. I think the HE is a victim of rage, of uncontrollable jealousy and it will be some time before she is found.

What peaks my curiosity is something that is seldom discussed in this thread.
In this link:

http://m.myhorrynews.com/news/local/aynor/article_e27b8722-81fa-11e3-a440-001a4bcf6878.html?mode=jqm

"The victim’s father also expressed concern to police about another man and possible coworker of Elvis “due to him possibly being abusive,” the report said.

According to the report, the victim’s father reported that the second man who was a possible coworker stated, “if she hides, he will find her.” "

The article states that according to the (police) report, "if she hides, he will find her."
I wonder what transpired for this possibly abusive co-worker to be in the police report in the first place and second, it sounds like perhaps he has been looking for her for whatever reason.
I wonder whatever transpired previously could have bearing on the couple of entities that are in the police report? Like one has to do with the other, perhaps? Like for Every Action, There'a a Reaction sort of thing, maybe?
Since it is just small pieces to the puzzle it is challenging to decipher the True meanings
to very little words in the article about the police report.

IMOO.

Local LE is often at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to getting lab results. For one example, tens of thousands of rape kits have never been processed because labs are overloaded and local LE can't afford to send them in anyway. There aren't that many labs that can produce forensic quality results and they're all overloaded. Some of the crime shows do have their own labs, so it's entirely possible that they were able to perform tests that the local office would have had to wait months or years for.
