I do agree she could be farrer away than what I am thinking. Its JMO that I feel she is relatively close to the landing. Been thinking about how a certain person probably knew that area very well and the comfort zone of knowing the area. Thinking they probably had an ideal spot in mind for quite awhile and when the time came that morning, they just used the spot.
But you are right that they had the opportunity to go much farther. If she was removed from the area, then it is probably many miles and probably another spot the perp(s) had been to before and knew was just right.
ETA: For some reason, I keep thinking water and weights. Nothing to base it on other than seeing so much water around the landing and the many small creeks and holding ponds around the gravel pits areas. Some ponds were quite large.
in an early thread someone posted the tides & directions of flow. If it was a full moon(meaning higher tides) it might make sense to wait until low tide (much lower than usual due to full moon). This way if weighted down at low tide might be easier to pick a good spot. I'd think around a curve or bend up from PTL.
That isn't even factoring if you might choose an area near gators. With the warmth there might be some places they were active (bet fishermen might know). So you can weight it down in such an area and let the gators take care of it.
