There is an associated slideshow for the article I linked above. Looks heavily wooded, remote and a dirt road.

It is quite a distance away from where she was reported last seen. Over 10 miles and 3 hours walking.

So this is just me, and I am sorry if it insults anyone. This case sounds like drug use. Meaning, Jessica could be involved in illegal drugs with unsavory characters. Mom's concern for her screams disappointment. Almost like "she did it again" It's all my assumption, but I do think she took off on her own, probably meeting a friend somewhere. I do wonder if there was indeed a disagreement with the stepbrother. Again, this all my imagination, and what I am seeing and hearing from the mom.
She's got an extensive arrest record. In one county alone (Spartanburg) there were 3 shoplifting charges and a 3rd degree felony for assault and battery. https://publicindex.sccourts.org/Spartanburg/PublicIndex/PISearch.aspx In Union County there were over a dozen arrests - drugs (more than once) DUI (more than once), disorderly conduct, shoplifting. https://publicindex.sccourts.org/Union/PublicIndex/PISearch.aspx There's probably more but I just did the two counties. I feel for her mother. Her daughter likely is in with a crowd of other habitual offenders and that carries its own risks.

Bumping again!
This one wasn’t posted yet and the title obviously caught my eye...
34-Year-Old Mother Missing, Suspect Being Watched by Police
“However, Coffer said that there may be a possible informant of the case, according to NBC.

“There is one person that we are kind of watching, I guess you could say. There is a person that we feel like could have information, who just hasn’t told us it yet,” he said.”

Sounds like they wanted to turn up the heat a little bit, but sounds to me like a POI instead of suspect at this point.
Definitely more worried as they’re seeming to frame this more now as leaning towards foul play..

Jessica Ashmore, a 34-year-old South Carolina mother of two, was last seen on May 19, 2019, at her home on family property in Jonesville. Investigators say that around lunchtime, Jessica was with her half-brother and a couple of other family members when she had an argument with her half-brother and walked off. Jessica didn’t take her cell phone and said she was just going for a walk. But she didn’t come back.

Union County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Scott Coffer said it was Saturday, May 25 when his office got a call reporting Jessica as missing. They searched the area with the help of cadaver dogs, drones and volunteers, but there was no sign of Jessica. Investigator Coffer said Jessica’s case is being treated as a missing persons investigation, and cadaver dogs were used because of the rural area and Jessica’s severe asthma condition. It’s unclear if Jessica had an inhaler with her when she disappeared. Jessica Ashmore is described as being 5’5” tall and weighing about 145 lbs. She has brown hair and blue eyes.

Family pleads for answers as Union Co. woman missing for 200 days
[…]

“It actually feels like it’s been 20 years. It doesn’t feel like 200 days,” Angel Ashmore said. “Every day is a lifetime.”

[…]

“We haven’t found a hairbrush, we haven’t found a shoe, a shirt, we haven’t found anything of Jessica’s,” Angel Ashmore said.

“Here on my desk, these are two notebooks of information that we’ve followed up since May,” Sheriff David Taylor said.

But investigators still have no solid leads.

[…]

The problem, according to Sheriff Taylor, is that someone knows something, but no one is talking.

He told 7 News he and his investigators are not giving up.

“Just like an unsolved murder, just because you get to a place where you’re not getting information, you still have to keep digging,” he said.

[…]

The community has created a fundraiser to help provide Christmas for Jessica Ashmore’s children.

While Ashmore is the only reported missing person in Union County right now, there’s another missing woman much like her in Cherokee County.

Unfortunately, it is like this all over the country. It makes you wonder if there is a connection.

From the link:
“While Ashmore is the only reported missing person in Union County right now, there’s another missing woman much like her in Cherokee County.

There are seven missing people in Spartanburg County–all of those being women.

28 are missing in Anderson County. 11 of them are women. And there are 38 people reported missing in Greenville County.”

Thank you for this latest article @PommyMommy - it is interesting. I did some digging, and found a Cherokee County woman missing since June 2018. Cherokee and Union are adjoining counties, and the distance between these two cases is about 30 minutes. I created a new thread for Fallon Cooksey, missing from Cherokee County.

More on the recovery of human remains in Jonesville :

Human remains found in Union Co.

UNION COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – In Jonesville, human remains have been found deep in the woods off Jeffries Farm Road and the sheriff said they’ll need DNA tests before they have any explanation.

Around 1:30 Monday afternoon, a crew planting trees about two and a half miles into the wooded area came across something suspicious and called the sheriff’s office.

“They said they had found what they thought were human remains,” said Union County Sheriff David Taylor.

Taylor said the remains were in a “skeletal state” and based off of their condition the remains had been there for quite some time.

‘“She didn’t make it 500 feet,” Angel Ashmore said.

And it’s a road Angel Ashmore said she has driven down every single day since Jessica went missing.’
Family of missing Union Co. woman believes human remains belong to her

Wow can you even imagine searching for so long and they’re found so close? This one doesn’t feel like suicide to me so what the heII happened here? Who put her there or hurt her there? Moo
